Perhaps it was the confusion Leol initially set up with his thrown voice, or the blinding fury prompted by Priscilla’s attack, or maybe these Kenku are just poor swordsmen.... but both attacks from the birdmen miss.
((Gryk held his turn for an attack and can go now. Afterwhich, Leol can go. Check the other thread - apologies again for my unwanted hiatus))
((In post 295: “One seems catch the noise of Leol crouching behind a crate or perhaps the stirring of air from the now open window.” And your stealth was 7. No sneak on this one- while they don’t quite see you, they suspect a presence.))
The fire bolt pummels Kenku B who is mimicking again, this time in a hard orcish accent. “Xanathar sends its regards.” A large patch of feathers on the side of his face and neck curl in the heat of the fire bolt and turn to ash. He grips the shortsword, but his eyes are scanning for an escape.
Priscilla feints an attack to the right. The Kenku twists, the attack seemingly avoided. However, the feint opened up the opportunity for the halfling to jab the shortsword into the bird creature's belly and toward his neck. The kenku strangles on a "caw" as blood filled his mouth. It slumps to the ground before a red-splattered Priscilla.
The reverberating call to the elements that scorched the now dead Kenku by Leol must have alerted others on the second floor. A third kenku arrives to the top of the stairs. "Fight, fight, fight," the mimicked calling resembles a group of adolescence gathered around a street scuffle.
Kenku ,1 who is standing before Gryk, is able to parry, dodge and duck the dwarf's attacks and now attempts his own.
Then Kenku near Grykham glances from his fallen ken, to the wizard knocking crates in his wake, toward the blood splattered halfling, and finally to the dwarf with the menacing hammer. The birdman looks shaken but stands his ground.
A sickening crack of ribs issues from Grykham's hammer blow to the kenku's side. A rush of air escapes the kenku's beak, he struggles to fill his collapsed lung.
The kenku at the top of the stairs is hesitating with wide eyes, one hand gripping the railing - the other his sword. The shadow of a possible fourth kenku darts behind him.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Priscilla drops her blade and whips her shortbow into position. The arrow she pulls is weighted wrong - the halfling can feel the imbalance as she nocks the it. Attempting to correct for it, Priscilla lets the arrow fly to the kenku. The arrow wobbles through the air, but it bites into the kenku's groin hitting a vessel for a fair, if ugly, hit.
Kenku 1 before Grykham strikes out at the dwarf aiming for the dwarfs hammer arm:
Attack: 18 Damage: 6
Kenku 3 on the stairs drops his sword to clutch at the bleeding at his groin. Swinging his own shortbow around he answers the halfing's arrow with one of his own.
Attack: 14 Damage: 5
Both attacks miss. Kenku 1 calls over his shoulder to the one on the stairs. "Go!" In the familiar staccato mimricry of several voices he says, "No time. Back to the boss. Follow. The sewer." He raises he sword and crouches, his stance defensive. Kenku 3 at the top of the stairs moves out of sight.
Sneak Attack3
[ooc]SO 9 points of damage overall!Not bad for a little halfling[/ooc]
Priscilla’s shot lands true striking Kenku B in the chest. He staggers, his beak clenched in fury and finally notices the halfling in the shadow.
Kenku A strikes at Gryk with his shortsord:
attack: 10 dmg: 8
Kenku B crosses the distance to Priscilla easily raising his shortsword overhead and bringing it down with force toward the halfling neck.
