OOC: Inventories have been updated. Abraxas's hasn't been updated with ink/paper/pens yet. How much of each did he want?
Oli meets you at the gates of the city. He is outfitted simply, wearing light armor and carrying a mace as his only weapon.
The land surrounding the city is a grassy flatland, with only an occasional tree in sight. The cat- and foxlike humanoids that dominate the city populace tend farms on the outskirts as well, and most of them are hard at work throughout the day.
Oli follows for most of the day with his head in a book, frantically scribbling notes as he walks. When the sun begins to set, he returns his book to his bag, and says, "Well it seems we will be together for some time, so we may as well make conversation. Mitsi says that you are from another world? I've never heard her tell a joke, but I still find myself having trouble believing that. You must have many questions."
OOC: Along with your response, let's establish a marching order to use going forward, and what pace would you like to travel? Normal, Fast, or Slow?
"Roxy and I will take the lead and scout in front, if you'll give us directions Mister Oli." She takes Roxy gently off of her shoulder and flings the owl up into the air. Roxy gets a look of surprise on her face as she is flung high into the air and starts to plummet downward before opening her wings and taking flight. Iz runs after her familiar, without waiting for directions, giggling as she zigzags through the tall grass. She looks back periodically to make sure the group is near by and to ensure that she's going in more or less the right direction squinting at her allies, then back toward the sky to look for her familiar. Occasionally Roxy will swoop low and Iz will try to jump up and grab her unsuccessfully and her little arms and head will just barely be visible over the tall blades of grass. Iz also has to stop herself short of running into a few farmers, saying "Heh heh, excuse me," before darting off once more.
[ooc : Iz will be in front and tends toward travelling quickly, but she's a halfling so her speed is 5/6ths normal folk speed anyway.]
OOC: I think normal pace is good, unless anyone has any objections. It will give us time to learn about the perils of the new world.
"I have questions, sure. But don't you have questions, Oli? We are great heroes from our land and have some amazing tales. Harmony, Abraxas, and I took down a demon from rising and taking over the City of Splendors back where I am from."
EDIT: Forgot marching order. Jove is watching the back and taking up the rear, but still talking to Oli.
"Oli," Abraxas says, "are you familiar with the idea of spheres and planes of exsistance?" Abraxas likes the middle of groups and the center of marching orders. He watches the tall grass and any trees close to their path, walks with his hands held behind his back.
Watching Oli's pace as well and assuming he knows the dangers of the area, Abraxas travels at his speed.
He bought three pieces of parchment, two quills, and one vial of adequate ink before leaving town.
Harmony walked along with the others, surprised to see Isabella was up ahead and going really fast. She had heard as Olli asked if they had any questions, thinking about that. Then she heard Jove talk about how him, her, and Abraxas took down a demon from taking over Waterdeep as she giggled. "Yeah, we just helped out. I also got to perform with a famous bard as well." she said back with a smile, remembering that and what fun she had back then.
(OCC: Harmony will be in the middle and going at a normal pace.)
"I wouldn't know where to begin. I'm fascinated to learn what someone from another world has to learn of ours. Much can be learned by what one asks. From the questions you have I can learn what is different from...wherever you are from. Though don't take that to mean that I am not interested in hearing of your tales. We have a lot of time ahead of us. I'll need to know of this City of Splendors. It sounds...splendid," Oli tells Jove.
"I am somewhat familiar," he tells Abraxas. "Occasionally an elemental plane will bleed through to the Material, and not much is known of the demonic realms beneath the seas. There aren't many souls brave enough to plunge into those depths." He visibly shudders at the thought.
"Olive, you have had to hear of the great bard Aria Cavatina in your travels, correct? Not only did Abraxas, Harmony, and I save her from an imp attack. Harmony actually performed with her and composed a song with her. It was a great show. But I don't really know what came of it after the fact. Would you care to enlighten us about your bardic escapades, Harmony? How about your intense study, Abraxas? And I don't know much about Iz or Olive, regrettably. Tell us of your tales of skills and prowess!"
“Seem likely we’re still on the Material Plane. But another sphere. Do people from other spheres appear here often, Oli?” Abraxas shades his eyes with a hand as he looks toward the sounds Iz is making.
“I was born at Candlekeep, a great library on our home sphere Oli, and would live there still were my father not driven mad by a tome he found deep in the vaults.” He quickly adds, “Since we fought off the devils and the imp—don’t you think the parents were involved somehow?—I’ve been working with the The Watchful Order of Magists and Protectors. Oli, when there are crimes in one of our greatest cities, we are asked to help if magic was involved. So, most of my adventures have been visiting the scenes of crimes, though we did interrupt some ghouls one night. And the gangs in the city seem to be attacking each other lately.” His words seem to have created a bad taste in his mouth, judging by his expression.
“Olive, have you found yourself facing imps or the undead? Hideous things.”
"I'm sorry. I don't know too much about bards, or imps, or undead creatures. My parents raised me in a little cabin they had in the woods. My father was a famous adventurer back in his day, but he didn't want his family to have to deal with the life, so he packed up me and my mother and we left, so that no one would bother us. He taught me how to fend for myself and live off the land. I've hunted some creatures, killed some direwolves, as well as some orcs and goblins that get bold and think that a family all alone in the woods are some easy pickings. But nothing like what you, Harmony, and Jove fought against.

"Another sphere? So you surmise that the five of you are from the same plane as we are in now, but another...dimensional space within it? Fascinating..." Oli says to Abraxas, listening earnestly to his statements.
He perks up at Olive's statement on orcs and goblins. "You speak of goblins in the same vein as orks, as if you consider them to be equal. Do orks display such evil where you come from?"
Over the course of the next tenday, the plains give way to forest, and Oli explains that the northern end of Loch Varokaj, where the Ice Basilisk resides, is covered by these woods. The trees are unnervingly quiet, echoing Mitsi's warning that wildlife was fleeing the area. The chirping of birds and the rustling of animals disturbing the forest floor has been replaced by silence.
In the quiet of the first night in these woods, as the party prepares to rest, Oli asks, "Isabella, Harmony, if I may ask...the two of you do not match the description of any race known to me. Do not feel that you need to answer if it seems rude, but I believe your heritages to be worth documenting. Where are you from? Isabella, you resemble a gnome, though your features seem closer to that of a human's than an elf's. And Harmony, if you had gills you could pass for a devil beneath the seas; yet you clearly exhibit no evil."
Harmony heard as Oli was fascinated to learn about their differences, but also interested in their tales too. Even Olive was interested in their tales as well before Jove questioned if she knew of Aria, telling her about how she had composed a song and performed with her. He said that it was great, wanting to hear more about her bardic escapades. "Thank you. It's been nothing much really, the usual traveling from town to town and city performing for the people. I did get some new fans after the concert with Aria and I've been getting more steadily, improving my songs and dancing. I've helped out people too from time to time, but nothing like what we did in Waterdeep with defeating devils and imps. I just love to sing and dance, wanting people to be happy." she had said back with a cheerful grin. She looked to see Isabella whooping and hollering, chasing after her owl as she giggled. Then Harmony listened as Abraxas said where he was from, very surprised to hear that his father had been driven mad by a tome. Soon he questioned how with they fought off the devils and imps, if the parents were involved somehow and that he's been working with The Watchful Order of Magists and Protectors. "Really? That wouldn't make sense, their children would have been in danger like Elzerina had almost been." she said back before hearing him describe how they are asked to help with crimes if magic is involved, having visited scenes of crimes mainly and mentioning that gangs have been attacking each other lately. She was glad to hear that he has been busy trying to help others and do good. But Harmony was quite shocked to hear that Olive didn't know much about anything due to living in a little cabin in the woods because her father didn't want them to have to deal with the adventurer life and not have anyone bother them. She has been living off the land, hunting and killing while protecting her family. "Then we'll have to take you around and show you all the amazing things out there when we get back home. I should perform for you and Isabella, Oli too." she then said back to them with a smile, happy as could be.
(OCC: Had been in the middle of making my last post and didn't know that you posted while I was doing so until after I posted that.)
Harmony could see as the plains turned into forest while they had been walking for oh so long, not liking how quiet it was. It was night and they were getting ready to rest as she was doing her hair like usual before going to sleep. But then she heard Oli ask her and Isabella about their races and where they're from since they don't match any that he knows and how their heritages are worth documenting. He told her that if she had gills, she could pass for a devil beneath the seas but yet she clearly exhibits no evil. Harmony sighed, pouting and realizing that she will have to talk about it. "I was born in a small city, in a rather secluded community. My people, we're called Tieflings. As far as I know, all of us do come from human bloodlines but I guess at some point a long long long time ago a pact with the big demon Asmodeus was made, his essence infusing into our bloodline which resulted in this. My parents always claimed that ours in particular was the purest, the very first pact to be formed and having the most of his infernal essence as a result especially with only marrying other Tieflings too. We lived with other Tiefling families, away from the humans and other races since we're different and my parents said that I shouldn't interact with those inferior than us. I was different compared to the other Tieflings like my parents besides just my appearance as I didn't want to hurt people or be mean. If I hadn't snuck out that day when I was little and gone into the city, getting to watch a bard sing and dance where I discovered my lifelong dream, I certainly wouldn't be who I am now and with all of you as well. When I and they found out that my talent for song and dance was magical over a year ago, they wanted to marry me off to this Tiefling prince who had plans to use me in order to conquer the world and make it so that all other races are slaves to the Tieflings. So I ran away and I've been running since, trying to live my dream of spreading happiness and love through song and dance to everyone by being an idol. At least here, they can't reach me thankfully..." Harmony had explained to Oli, looking down with a melancholy gaze as she recalled the day she met him and was told of their marriage arrangement, learning of his evil plans and cruel ways before running away.
Iz, who has calmed down a little bit over the course of the party's travels, walks along side Oli and Harmony, opening her mouth several times to speak when she thinks there's a break in Harmony's description of tieflings. After Harmony has gone on for a few sentences, Iz stops trying and keeps her eyes on the road, squinting here and there to try to focus on some of the blobs that remain shapeless in the distance due to her myopia. It takes her a minute or two to realize that Harmony has finished her explanation, at which point she looks up to Oli with a smirk, pointing up at her face with one hand, and simply says, "halfling."
Roxy, riding on Iz's shoulder, lets out a big yawn and closes her big owl eyes.
Harmony will also buy 16 days worth of rations as well.
Jove as well. He is ready to head out.
