"The Halfling has a point," Arxius suddenly speaks up, though her tone and demeanour belay her reluctance to further involve herself. Leaving Rees to speak for her in these moments was usually the better option. "As do you, our mysterious benefactor. We may be going to our deaths and that is a risk, I would assume, we're all willing to take for a bit of coin. But our survival could hinge on whether or not we are well equipped for such a task. Clearly you can spare the expense otherwise why not send Flotsam and Jetsam here?" She asks, motioning to Vim and Vau dismissively.
Carlisle smiles at Arxius and says, “Please do not mistake my business practices as hubris. I simply do not know you and as you say — I have no guarantee that you will survive, nor find the wand I desire. Alas, I do consider myself hospitable at the very least will cover your tab here for the food and drink you have consumed. In fact.. Garon another few pitchers if you would. As for room... I would suggest you leave tonight for the citadel and not tarry here, but I am willing to cover that as well should you desire it. I can also provide you a little more information though regarding the state of the citadel, so you know what you are getting yourselves into. I warn you though that is the extent of my charity.”
Following her friend's line of sight, Arxius notes Vau's movement. She shifts her hand to her belt, her gloved palm resting against one of her throwing axes. Preparing herself on the off chance. "Another round while we deliberate then," she says, looking about at her new companions. It seemed no matter what they were now in this together.
Chatra sits back and waits for More ale and thinks about about what food he is going to fill his belly with.
Alright. We’re listening now. Please let us know about what you can about this citadel and wand so we can discuss if we can handle this job for you. We should be able to but I can’t speak for everyone. I have only just met these fine people.
Chatra then calls Garon over
my belly is running on empty, can I get something to eat. Whatever you recommend is the best. Thanks.
Carlisle leans back in his chair, rests his mug on his leg, and says, “Very well. This is what I know...”
“A dragon cult that valued privacy and defense built the Sunless Citadel on the surface long ago. All record of the cult’s name has vanished, though various sources believe that it was associated with the dragon Ashardalon. The cataclysm that killed the cult members sank the fortress at the same time. Because of residual enchantments, much of the structure survived its descent into the earth. With the cultists dead, goblins and other creatures moved in, and they have survived here for hundreds of years.
The goblins, which belong to the Durbuluk tribe (“Dominator” in Goblin), once patrolled the area around the ravine to rob passersby. But now, with the Old Road having fallen out of use, the goblins rarely pay much attention to this entrance anymore and you may be able to use it to get into the citadel leaving the goblins unawares.
”This is the extend of my knowledge and I hope you will consider your options wisely. And before you get any ideas about double crossing me let me remind you, I can be a very benevolent patron, or a devastating enemy. I will leave you to your discussion now... you can find me out front when you are finished.” With that he draws a pipe from a hidden pocket in his padded coat, gets up, motions to his companions, and leaves out of the front door whence he came.

Irritated by your demanding tone Garon slowly makes his way to your table, “We have steak and kidney pie, poached eggs and gammon, or roasted turnip and pork belly soup on the menu today sir.. I recommend the steak and kidney pie myself, but I’m adverse to eating pork on account of I named the Ol’ Boar after my best friend Rusty.”
He seems to be withholding information and unwilling to share information. Maybe it's because he knows simply knows his business and doesn’t know us or he truly is hiding something. He does not seem threatened at all by us. It's like we're little kids pretending to be grownups. I suspect he's more powerful than looks. Unfortunately, I can see his unwillingness to "invest" up front, even if I don't like it.
Grom, you indicated you had more relevant information?

"Kerowyn Hucrele, the matriarch of the Royal local family sent 2 people into the Sunless Citidal to try and recover a relic. a month or more has passed now and the 2 have not been seen sense." Grom Strokes his beard, takes a sip of his Ale. "This is no standard rescue mission these 2 people who were sent were her own son & daughter (Talgen & Sharwyn)." If worst has come to worst as many fear and we can at least find the 2 Signet rings the 2 were wearing and return them to Kerowynshe has offered to pay 125gp per ring to each party member who helps return them. In the best case scenario if we return with the brother and sister alive and in shape she has offered to double the reward to 250gp each to each member of the party!"
"So between trying to find Talgen & Sharwyn, and looking for the Wand.. and the chance to keep any other items we find of value this is why i thought it was best to try and not get into a scuffle with Carlisle. As i have a feeling there is alot more to him then we know and we dont have to trust him or like him to do business with him."
"To be fair,"Rees said, glancing at Chatra first then Talien, "We did not exactly put our best foot forward. There's a chance he would have given us more information and respect if we had not challenged him directly so strongly up front. In my experience, you can catch more flies with honey... I'm not saying I trust him or his companions, I don't, but we did not give him much of a reason to trust us either."
Garon heads off to the back to fetch your orders and returns after a short time with several steaming hot plates of pie, an order of poached eggs and gammon, and a flagon of goat’s milk for Arixus. “Here we are, please do enjoy and let me know if you need anything else.”
There aretwo...(pauses thinking of the word)...opportunities for coins, and the hammer for me to find for the dwarf, so he can help me with my re-forge. While you fill your bellies, I am going to talk to the dwarf, and buy supplies. Whoever wants my...assistance on this trip, I will return here in about 1 hour and plan to leave in 1 hour after that unless we are ready before then.
Talien walks over to Garon, sheathing his weapon that was still gripped in one hand and asks him Can you show me were the general store is on the map? He places a silver piece down on the counter and also says. I do not eat, nor drink, but have this as a sign of my...ehhh...good intentions.
I have no issue 'killing two birds with one stone' as they say. As long as there is no conflict between the jobs, I am happy to help you determine the fate of your kinsmen Grom. But if the relic they search for is the wand, I will be bound to return it to Bozak
You don't have to like a man to accept his coin.
As long as Bozak proves not evil, I will take his opportunity and pledge myself to accomplishing his goal. Yet as Chatra noted, some things don't quite add up. He has valid concerns. Should we locate the wand, it will be prudent not to simply hand it over without purdent mesasures. What say the rest of you?
well I have been around and this is not my first job. From experience a man not willing to deposit a little upfront isn’t a man wanting the job he is telling you really done. My own personal feelings is he is a businessman and it’s not for relics and treasures. He is probably being paid himself to send people into the citadel probably to their own demise. That is why he was willing to pay for board and food to fatten the pigs for the slaughter but would not give us any coin directly in my opinion. But we seem to have other business there so it sounds like we are going and maybe we can find the truth to this stranger while we are there. Unless you all want some easy money !
