As most of the party cleans weapon, rests, and converses with one another we find our resident spellslinger, Grom examining the cage that held the party's newfound companion Shake. Something about the cage calls to our studious wizard... especially the lock. Why was it so hard to pick? How can this process be refined and improved? Perhaps magic is the solution?
Grom examines the cage door and its lock closely. Taking out some small tools he pops off the front plate laying the lock's internals bare and maps out their inner workings with ease. With a map of the lock fixed firmly in his head Grom closes the door to the cage and places his hand over the lock. A glowing series of gold and silver runes dance around his head as he imagines the lock clicking into place to secure the cage. Grom smiles and whispers "Colloportus" aloud. The gold and silver runes suddenly rush out of Grom's mind and whirl around the lock which audibly clicks into place! Grom pulls on the cage door and finds it is stuck fast! He laughs aloud and gives it another tug finding it is still stuck fast locked in place by his magic.
"What's next?" Grom says to himself as he pulls out his spell book and wanders over to an empty corner of the room. He spits in his hand and mutters the words to produce an ice knife which he then uses as a pointer to tap keys words in his spell book as he reads up and down the pages and ponders over the application of ice to... he pauses and looks at Talien who is happily cleaning his armored plating.... "Wait... armor... that's it!" Grom exclaims as he melts the ice knife into a pool on the floor. He concentrates on the small pool of water and mutters some arcane words under his breath.... suddenly the water evaporates into a mist, rises into the air, and surrounds Grom's outstretched arm like a gauntlet!
Grom - glancing down at your new gauntlet you can see it is has the appearance of a spectral frost and emanates cold vapor like an ice pop straight from the freezer in summer. Another idea strikes you and you walk over to the cage. You raise your hand and examine the gauntlet then bang it against the metal bars as hard as you can. The gauntlet explodes against the bars and you watch as the bar you impacted suddenly freezes over and takes on a more brittle appearance.
"Amazing!" you think to yourself as you realize the armor is capable of causing cold damage as well as protecting you.
You quickly take your canteen from your pack and dump a whole cup of water on the ground as you mutter the magic words once more. The cup of water almost instantly evaporates and takes to the air to surround your entire body. You slowly take in a breath of air and feel immediately refreshed... healthier even. The feeling is akin to steeping outside of a warm tavern and taking in the first breath of a cold winter night. You beam with pride at your newest accomplishment and as you flex your muscles to find the the armor flows perfectly with your movements. You laugh again and mutter aloud to nobody in particular, "Ah, isn't magic wonderful? And to think the other dwarfs of Blackbanner laughed when I started down this path. If they could only see me now!"
"Don't worry Rees... they can't see me unless I allow it." (From an on lookers perspective it looks like you're alone, perhaps talking to yourself though).
After you cast the spell the Traveler beams at you and says, "Excellent! You're a quick learner.. I am pleased!"
"I have to return to my work... Is there anything you need before I go Rees?"
She chews on her lip for a moment, the spectral hand tapping its fingers on the ground. "Can you check in on Arxius? Just...make sure she's okay?"
The Traveler sighs, "...Are you sure Rees? ...Would it not be better to wait awhile and let the wound heal? She just left your company afterall..."

"She's my family. We'll be together again... when this is all over, I'll find her. I still owe her. So, yeah. I'm sure. Someone needs to watch her back while I'm away, maybe that'll be Trick and Corkie for a while, but it can't hurt for you to peek in on her every so often, right?"

The look of concern on the Traveler's face makes you very wary... it's like he knows something about Arxius and isn't letting on, or does not want to tell you what it is...

The Traveler frowns in turn as if hurt by your words, “Ican make time of course... But... no... you might not be.... ready...” He trails off.
"I'm sure it's nothing Rees... Don't fret..." the Traveler says reassuringly with a dashing smile.
Her frown deepened but she didn’t argue further. He was her god and while she was no cleric or holy person, he’d just given her magic...odds were good he could take it away. Arguing with him seemed like a dangerous and fruitless endeavor. “Would be easier not to worry if you’d be less cryptic, but ... I’ll try.”

"Have faith Rees..." the Traveler says with a warmer smile and a wink, "Now I really must be going. See you soon Rees!"
He then whirls his billowing green cloak and vanishes from sight.
Alten pulls out the map we found. I don't think we've gone in the northermost 49 yet?
Before the bugbears and goblins, we were headed up to clear out the northwestern rooms (52-50) before heading to the eastern rooms. That still the plan?

As you finish up your rest a luminescent mist begins to blur the edges of the octagonal chamber. You look around and notice the nodules of glowing fungus that dot the stone walls and ceiling, as well as the caps of toadstools and mushrooms, small polyps, puffballs, and lichen seem to have opened and are now releasing some type of spore. The air grows more humid and begins to reek with rot...
