The villagers (assuming you try to give the stuff to them) don't recognise stuff from the chest. The weapons and shields in Hark's main cave are theirs though.
I will wait for a plan to be made and get you heading back to Nightstone
Zook watchen intently as Bert opens the chest, although as usual, the excitement and the mystery of the unknown prove to be much more exciting than the actual contents of the chest. As a simple gnome of the forest, he has little need for piles of coins, but the intrigue and historical significance of magic does strike his fancy, as do pretty gems.
That said, he does take interest in the salt and pepper shakers, mostly because they make him think of food and remind him that it’s beem awhile since he enjoyed a nicely prepared meal. He plays with them for a bit, takes a few pinches of salt on his tongue and puts them back.
Listening to Bert’s two strategies for returning to Nightstone, he thinks for a minute before answering.
”I definitely like the second idea. We all return to the village and let the people reclaim their homes and begin rebuilding. Or was that the first idea? Either way, I say we don’t make a fuss, we just take them back now, and if the Zhents make a fuss, then we’ll deal with that and offer our aid if it’s needed. In other words, we pretend that the Zhents are nobody, which they are. If there’s to be a first move, them let them make it. How does that sound?”
”And since we found Hark’s goodies, I suppose there’s no need to go check out the blob cave. Unless you think that Snig wasn’t lying about that too...”
”Oh, by the way, is anyone thirsty or cold? I can create some water or heat up some stones... hot stones feel wonderful when placed on your chest!”
"My worry was that they just won't open the gates or lower the drawbridge so it might be helpful to have some people over the wall before that happens. Maybe I'm being paranoid. If we want to just hope they let us in we can walk up to the front door!"
“Good point. You’re probably right, so perhaps it would be best to try and bring everything back in under the cover of darkness. I can just imagine the look on those smug Zhent faces when they see that everyone is back. Although I realize that trying to sneak everyone back in might not go as planned. But it’s worth a try. We’ll just say that we didn’t want to wake anybody up when we arrive in after dark.”
”By the way, What time of day is it anyway? It’s so hard to tell underground.”
Hawk doesn’t like bats. When the bats came at Bert, he didn’t feel like getting any closer, and when everybody else was helping get the villagers out, he thought he might as well just keep watch at the entrance of the cave.
With everybody ready to head back to Nightstone, Hawk suggests a plan:
Perhaps Bert and I can sneak back into town discretely during the night, and open the drawbridge for the rest of you! I believe I saw a couple places where the walls weren’t entirely standing, and we can most likely climb our way in?
Mandaway nodded at Hawks idea and mused to himself on what should be done, he looked over the villagers to see how many of them would be of use if it came to using force to drive the Zhents out.
Mandaway walked slowly around the caves with the Pacifier held in his hands, he looked to the tunnel that housed all the non-warrior goblins and then to the tunnel that held Snig, the younger male goblin was smart....getting others to do his work for him but would he be a good leader or would the juveniles in the cavern be adult warriors threatening Nightstone again in a few years?
He looked down at the childs comforter in his hands, permanently stained now with goblin blood.....would it not be smarter to sneak back and crush the skulls of the Zhentarim in their sleep? Would it not be easier to enter the tunnels before him and dash out goblin brains until they were no more?
He wiped tears from his cheeks and muttered apologies to Eldath under his breath.....he needed sleep....real, actual sleep....
Coming back to the others he drew himself up again, " Lets get these people home then."
Bert suggests to Snigbat and the goblin survivors that they just leave and go away from Nightstone, away from ogres and blobs and angry villagers. Seeing as there isn't much in the caves for them, going elsewhere might be their best bet.
And then he is ready to sneak into Nightstone with Hawk and open the gates, if that's what we are doing.
"Might as well go scout now to see if the drawbridge is up or down. We could theoretically just walk in if the bridge is down, and skip the sneaking over walls. Why don't we try that?" Bert says, looking at the cave entrance and the restive villagers. "Do you all wish to return to your homes? What would you like to do with Zhentarim brigands who have moved in with the idea of using Nightstone as a base of operations?"
(He's ready to return to town, after hearing what the goblins say about leaving the area, and the villagers say about retaking their town or relocating.)
Snigbat (who is female) agrees to move on. They only came here recently anyway. The villagers want to drive out the Zhents.
You all leave the cave and head back to Nightstone. On your way back, shortly before reaching Nightstone you bump into what seems to be someone else heading towards Nightstone
The figure approaching the town is clearly a warrior of some sort as they wear well kept chainmail armor and have both a large greatsword and a crossbow on their back. On their belt is a quiver filled with bolts for said crossbow as well as curved dagger that is clearly of elven make. A clear feature once the figure is under proper light is the holy symbol of Tempus, a flaming sword on a red background.
The figure themselves is a male half elf as his ears are slightly pointed but his skin and eyes resemble a drow as it is slightly ebony toned with his irises being a light red color. Unlike his elven side though his human side shows through the to his bulky build and broad features.
In a neutral but stern tone he responds to the question, his own hand going towards sword on his back as he sees the one speaking to him go for his own. "I heard news on an attack on the town. I was nearby putting some time goblins to the sword for attacking innocent travelers so I came to see if I can assist here as well."
Hawk going up to the traveler, extending his hand for an arm-shake as per local customs. He always enjoys meeting new people and is getting excited to hear more about this guy’s story! He has never met any drow, nor has he heard much about them.
You must have been sent here by the gods! Your timing is too perfect, we are on our way now to reclaim the city for these good folk (he waves towards the townspeople) Are you with us, brother?
Halizthan returns the strange greeting even as he gives the one speaking to him a strange look. "If there is fighting to be done then I shall help in defeating any foes that pose a threat to the citizens." The half drow says as he slowly frees his greatsword from his back.

Mandaway looked the figure over, " Have you fought Zhentirim before? Oh...sorry, manners. I'm Mandaway, thats Zook, Bert and Hawk...wow, I just realised my name really messes with our four letter name chic."
" Tempus? A liitle more Rowdy than I like my gods but mostly a good sort."

Bert looks to Hawk, then Zook and Mandy to see what they think of his ideas.

(Yes what time of day is it? Bert meant just to sneak two or three of them in - not the whole group of villagers btw.)
It's afternoon, probably by the time you get back to Nightstone it will be an hour or so before dusk

Bert, should we go after sundown or wait until the later hours of the night?
Hawk tries to remember the best place to climb a broken wall into town, discussing with the others places they have seen as well.

Bert will put his hand on his rapier and say "hello, are you from Nightstone? What is your business here?"
(OOC: Also sorry for misgendering Snigbat - she was introduced as a male goblin! Missed the later references. And welcome to the show DD!)
(yeah I introduced from memory, and then went back and read the module, I put it down to you being not good at gendering goblins)
