Bastille responds, "We hide in the rooms, the villagers hide near the entrance. Some of the villagers will stay with us in the rooms. Then we make a lot of noise and get the Red Brands to come down here. We will come out of the rooms and attack them on two sides while the villagers attack them from behind."
"That sounds fine to me," Vimak says. "Do either of you have a preference? Throwing furniture or singing? Or both?" He thinks for a moment. "Without sapping the energy required to cast spells, Cirrus, is there a way you could be in charge of the noise? That way I can try my bow and perhaps my ax, if need be."
"I think that music would be more suspicious, like it might be too obvious that we are trying to lure them, but I worry that the sound of furniture breaking might not carry very far. As far as I can tell, they are pretty far in the cave, so we'll need to make some effort to get their attention." Cirrus will then confer the plan to the villagers. The villagers will hide at the entrance, wait for the noise to summon the redbrands, then wait to pincer the redbrands until they hear music again after the initial sound used to lure them.

You can't drown someone with Create Water. If your lungs are containers than your bones are objects. Any Siege monster that attacks you deals double damage because it’s attacking your bones.
"Well, you might be right, but there is only one way to know for sure." Vimak takes a chair or barrel under each arm. He walks to the edge of the pit and hefts one of the two items above his head then throws it deep in the pit. Immediately, he throws the second, then grabs his short bow and tries to perceive any movement: 15
Two moderately loud, if dull crashes echo through a small area of the cave, as Vimak draws his bow, with the townsfolk awaiting signals, moments, then minutes pass with nothing more happening than the sound of settling wood that eventually fades.
"What does that mean? That Phandalin doesn't have to worry about them anymore? A rather unceremonious victory, I'd say... and just after the townspeople were willing to rise up in retaliation, too."

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Bastille shakes her head and says, "I'm afraid it's not that simple. While we were hiding here, did you hear them talking? I believe that the Red Brands are not alone and in fact may be connected to something bigger. We should search this place thoroughly."
Bastille will search the base for clues regarding who the Red Brands are working for, where did they go, where is their boss(es) and what are said bosses planning.
"I recall the leader mentioning something about the Spider, who is the individual who paid Klarg the bugbear to kidnap Gundren and Sildar."

((Since you didn't specify a path, I will go in the same pattern you were going at the time.))
As Bastille looks around the base, starting with the door on the far side, she is greeted with a small hallway, leading to stairs that likely lead back to the crevasse area.. Most likely. Proceeding forward, he enters a the room to the north.
This room appears to be a wizard’s workshop. A rat scurries across the floor and takes refuge under a large worktable set up with alembics, retorts, distillation coils, and other alchemical devices, all of it stewing and bubbling away. Bookshelves are crowded with sheaves of parchment and strange-looking tomes. Digging around the room, he finds Most of the materials in this room have no value, but three small bottles hold rare reagents: mercury, dragon bile, and powdered nightshade. These are worth 25 gp each to an apothecary or alchemist. A single Potion of Invisibility and an odd book, written in Dwarvish that looks distinct compared to all the others.
The rest of the room, while interesting looking, is otherwise mundane. Proceeding to the next door in the room
The walls of this bedchamber are covered with drapes of scarlet cloth. The furnishings include a small writing desk with matching chair, a comfortable-looking bed, and a wooden chest at the foot of the bed. Sitting on the desk, is another Potion of Invisibility. A note is also found.
At the foot of Iarno’s bed is a sturdy, unlocked wooden chest holding the best pickings of the Redbrands’ loot over the last two months. It contains 180 sp, 130 gp, and a silk pouch containing five carnelians (10 gp each), two peridots (15 gp each), and one pearl (100 gp). It also contains two magic items that whoever was here had brought with him from Somewhere: a Scroll of Charm Person, Scroll of Fireball. In the back of the room, a partially opened door, that would otherwise be seamless with the wall is visible. Going through it, he see's a set of stairs leading up.
Coming back to the room, you then notice a note, partially hidden...
Lord Albrek,
My spies in Neverwinter tell me that strangers are due to arrive in Phandalin. They could be working for the dwarves. Capture them if you can, kill them if you must, but don’t allow them to upset our plans. See that any dwarven maps in their possession are delivered to me with haste. I’m counting on you, Iarno. Don’t disappoint me.
"I recall the leader mentioning something about the Spider, who is the individual who paid Klarg the bugbear to kidnap Gundren and Sildar."
Bastille says as she is looking through the base, "So this isn't the first time you've heard of this Spider fellow, is see. Then we must where he is and take him down."
Coming upon the wizard's lab and seeing the rat scurry by, Bastille will attempt to Wildshape into a Cat and then catch the Rat.Do I need to roll anything for this? After she has successfully captured the rat (or giving up if she fails to catch the rat). She will revert back to her elf form and take a look around and direct the party's attention to the note and the book. "Does anyone of you know how to read Dwarvish? I suspect this book might have some kind of clue. Moreover, what do you make of this note? (Talking about the note with the spider logo)"Then before touching anything else, she will cast Detect Magic and give the room a good look to see if anything new was revealed thanks to the spell. Perception: 23
If Bastille captures the rat:
Bastille will revert back to her elf form. Then she will empty her waterskin and place the rat in the now empty container. She will hold the container in her hands and keep the cap open to allow the rat to breathe. If the Rat attempts to escape, Bastille will gently push it back into the waterskin.
"I do not read Dwarvish, and I do not know of this Spider," Vimak says. "One Potion of Invisibility," he whispers, "And another." Vimak tries to listen. He looks for the slightest unusual movement in the room: 17
"Is the base completely abandoned?" he says. "The strangers working for dwarves could be us. And the Spider instructed someone to capture or kill them."
Vimak has switched from the short bow back to his shield and ax.
Bastille says, "So they plan to kill us do they? They have made a grave mistake then. I shall destroy them all." She says it coldly and with menace in her voice.
"We were hired by a dwarf, Gundren Rockseeker, who was kidnapped by Klarg. This is because the Spider paid Klarg to kidnap said dwarf. 'Strangers working with dwarves heading to Phandalin,' that describes us perfectly! That can only mean... Sildar is the Spider!"
"... Wait. Nevermind, that doesn't make any sense. In any case, Iarno is in cahoots with the person who kidnapped Gundren. Whether it is by choice or not cannot be yet proven. In any case, we must ask Sildar about his 'friend' when we get the chance."
(OOC: What exactly is a spell scroll? Again, first time D&D-er here.)
You can't drown someone with Create Water. If your lungs are containers than your bones are objects. Any Siege monster that attacks you deals double damage because it’s attacking your bones.
(like in Skyrim unless you haven't played that. Basically a warrior, with no magical talent whatsoever can use a scroll to cast whatever spell is there. But the paper becomes inert after 1 use.)
(Wait that's how that works? I thought the spell needed to be a spell that your class can cast.)
A spell scroll bears the words of a single spell, written in a mystical cipher. If the spell is on your class’s spell list, you can read the scroll and cast its spell without providing any material components. Otherwise, the scroll is unintelligible. Casting the spell by reading the scroll requires the spell’s normal casting time. Once the spell is cast, the words on the scroll fade, and it crumbles to dust. If the casting is interrupted, the scroll is not lost.
