(Did I find anything in the Quad’s library about Phandalin?)
Sorry, I missed that bit. The library seems to be mostly fictional books, with a few based on Neverwinter’s history particularly, some on weapon upkeep, battle strategies. There are quite a few books though. If you’re from Neverwinter and it’s area though you can always make a history check to see if you’ve heard something about it, or ask other members of your party.

As Lavandula juggles around with his daggers, he asks his comrades:
Have any of you heard of Phandalin before?
All the while, he ponders on the question himself, searching through his memory for any mention of it from when he was still working in the criminal environment.. back in those days..

You've heard people talking a little about an old mining town being rebuilt in bars and taverns, or more specifically about the people who have moved there with the bold claim that they’ll find fortune there, usually in the tone of voice that suggests that they’re crazy.

You've heard of Phandalin in older texts, most commonly linked to Phandelver, a mine of great riches and importance that once led to the building of a thriving town community, and which many of an arcane persuasion were drawn to, thanks to the fabled Spellforge. The original town fell, and the location of the mine leading to the Spellforge was lost after a raid many years ago, though prospectors still travel there now and again, and a new - much smaller town - has been rebuilt among the ruins of the old.

I remember reading something about it in some older books in my mother’s collection. It was a town that was connected to a mine called Phandelver, which housed something called the Spellforge, which apparently was really interesting to arcane type folks. There was a mining town that stood up there, and did fairly well, until the town fell in a raid many years ago. From what I’ve heard around Neverwinter, a new small prospecting town has sprung up there, but I don’t get the sense it’s been incredibly successful.
Aaah.. Mining... makes sense. Now the contents of this delivery make sense... so Gundren is probably just another crazy miner who thinks he can get rich there..
(No sign from Jinkx yet, so will assume that their character is with you all and will act for them when any combat starts. If I don’t hear anything from them by the end of the week, I’ll reopen a slot for someone to join you)
You all make your way out of the city in your respective positions, and make your way south down The High Road. It’s not long before the scenery of the road becomes tedious and very similar to what you’ve already moved by and nothing really catches your interest until you’ve been travelling for about half a day.
Sickle and Koga are the first to spot the strange shapes lying in the middle of the road as you come around a bend in the road and as you get a little closer, it becomes clear that the shapes are two dead horses fifty feet ahead, blocking the path. The woods on either side of the road here press close to the path, with a steep embankment and dense thickets on either side. It is clear that each of the horses has a number of black-feathered arrows sticking out of them.

The green box is the cart, the big x’s are the dead horses and the 2 big R circles are the oxen (had to put them down as riding horses cause Encounter+ doesn’t have oxen or cows lol). I’ve put everyone roughly in the places they should be in.

Lavandula readies his shortbow, then casts the thaumaturgy to cause both harmless tremors in the ground and boom his voice up to three times as loud as normal:
If anybody is out there, surrender now and you will live!
Sickle will walk along side the cart keeping a steady eye on the road.
Perception:10
Koga hops into the cart and begins to set off as the driver as soon as everyone is ready.
