The hallway continues down and takes a turn, to a door which is open. Behind it you see a grotesque statue in the shape of a bat-like creature with a stake through its heart.
The thing tries to remove the stake from the statue; however it would seem that the stake isn't embedded in the statue so much as part of the same stone, and it does not budge. The statue does not come to life as you had hoped, or feared.
””Two questions. One: does staying in these forms drain our energy or anything like that? And two: any idea on how to get the gem? Maybe we have to destroy the statue?”
I don't sense the gem in this statue; we should look elsewhere. Pratchett thinks. I am pretty sure you could stay transformed for a day or so without having to worry about any ill effects. Beyond that, I don't know.
losing his transformation in anger he can't solve the riddle, his memories pass to varanus
"Bloody rakdos monkeys, they always burn everything, my notes, my precious notes!"
"OW wait, there was other door" we should go back and check it
"parchment, if only i could keep my parchment" he then takes out the last piece of parchment off his back and notes all he remembers, carefully lacing it back in the backpack as soon as possible
(Yes.)
"Well, this isn't so easy..." Thunder Blue approaches the edge and brightens a small rock and drops it over to see how deep the fall is.
(The rock lands at your feet. Transverse faults shift things sideways.)
”Let’s get moving,” says Purple Candle once Ammon awakens. She moves slowly down the hall, bow drawn. (Ready action: longbow attack. Attack: 6 Damage: 10 Sneak attack: (if applicable) 3
Edit: Stealth: 25

(Going by the map, there seems to be a fall? If not, Thunder Blue won't just randomly drop a glowing rock, obvs! 🤣 ... He will just proceed sneaking.)
Stealth: 15
(Yes, no fall, it's just shifted sideways.)

Looking at the statue "Is this a vampire?"
“It might be. More importantly, where’s the gem?”

"Something tells me in there." Attempting to remain concealed, Thunder Blue advances, then peers his head from the door to check for traps.
Stealth: 11
Perception: 1
After looking his eyes stop on the the staked vampire, "...Or in that thing. We might have to strike it down again."
There don't appear to be any traps. On a placard on the pedestal of the statue:
In this cave, the vampire Gulthias was staked to death; may he rot in hell.

Nothing particularly interesting in the chamber besides the statue; perhaps there was more here once but it has all been looted over the years.
"stupid statue, you should have the gem!"
The thing then roceeds to try removing the stake off from the statue [str check if needed 4 ]
If he manages to take it out he quickly sticks it back in with as much strenght as he did to ull out

Purple Candle looks to Pratchett.

(I just noticed I’m conscious now. Was anyone dragging me along with them as they went in while I slept?)

Haven’t used this account in forever. Still a big fan of crawling claws.
Gentle Giant ducks his shoulder down, then rams the into the statue with all his weight!
Strength Check - 2
The statue resists the Gentle Giant's not so gentle ramming; the stone remains in tact.

Varanus heads back to the other door. Does anyone open it?
