When you open the door, you are greeted by an elderly half-elf butler. "Guests of the young master?", he asks with a sophisticated tone, one eyebrow lifted. "Very well, please follow me."
He leads you back into the main hall, where on a cushioned footstool sits an attentive, yet diminutive, dragon-like creature.
So glad you all could make it! Please, come and sit at the table, we have much to discuss. With that the pseudodragon leaps down from his comfortable stool and hurries his way to a table with six chairs around it, taking the raised seat at the the head of the table.
Lanthar, please prepare some tea, hot, with plenty of cream, for six; we will be talking for some time. The half-elf butler bows deeply and takes his leave.
Wilfan’s curiosity gets the best of him. He darts forward taking a seat closest to the tiny dragon. Pulling some ink, parchment, and a quill from his satchel he starts drawing the dragon. Leaning things way and that to get a better look. Even picking up an end of one of its wings to examine it.
Elizabeth had heard Wilfan, nodding back to his question. "Y-Yes, I'm fine. That just scared me quite a bit." she whispered back to him with a smile, trying to reassure him. Then they met the half-elf butler asking if they are friends of his young master and to follow him. So she along with the others followed him to the main hall, very surprised to see a little dragon before hearing it speak, stunned. Wow, a talking dragon! She had sat down in the other seat closest to the dragon, looking over it. "W-Why are we here exactly? Who are you?" Elizabeth soon asked it, very curious as to why they were all called here by a talking dragon who she's never met before but yet it knows her name.
The pseudodragon smiles at Elizabeth. You are of course right to ask!
First off, let me introduce myself. Well, the truth is my true name is difficult for humanoids to pronounce, or hear, so maybe one of you could come up with a nickname to call me by?
Now, about why I brought you all here. You see, you may not realize this but you all have quite a bit of potential! But you don't know how to reach your potential right now. I will show you how.
All that I ask is some assistance recovering some lost magical artifacts. Well, are you interested?
"Will you look at this place!" Garner slowly whistles while turning taking it all in.
While he's turning he overhears Elizabeth and WIlfan talking with Kaida.
Garner strolls toward the table waving his arm into the air. "Now hold on...I'm thinking myself and the other voice hearing people need to have a meeting...i've had no luck with dragons" Garner points to his horribly burned arms and draws an imaginary circle around his face with his finger. "Last time a dragon spoke to me it was followed by rawrs blaarahhs and fire...it was a bad day"
Garner walks over to the table, sits down and scoots his chair in. He leans over the table and lets out a sigh, "I'm curious why a dragon is telepathically contacting me." Garner shifts his focus from Kaida to Wilfan and Elizabeth. "Does a telepathic dragon with promises of glory not trouble you?"
//Are Wilfan & Elizabeth ok with all this?//
Garner shifts his focus back to Kaida and hangs his head low as he sees his companions are mesmerized by Kaida. "Ok, let's hear it." he says.
He desperately hopes the half-elf didn't forget his tea...
Feth walks through the main hall, looking at every small detail, occasionally writing a few notes, before going back to just looking around. When they see Kaida, Feth stands bewildered for a few moments, before taking a chair next to Kaida (is Kaida a guy or girl?), writing notes frantically about every small facet of Kaida, when they mention magical artifacts Feth stands up suddenly, leaning a bit closer to Kaida he says ”M-magical artifacts?! Like... Real magic? Oh this is so exciting, I can't wait to see what these have in store, I may even have to buy another few notebooks. Uh, sorry, I'm getting a bit ahead of myself, yes I will gladly take this... Quest... Of yours, it sounds absolutely amazing, and what do you mean by ’Potential’, will I be able learn magic?! This is like a dream come true!” Feth then sits back down, writing notes even faster than before.
Entering the building, Jean takes the time to quietly admire the interior. Entering the main hall, he is surprised by the sight of the pseudodragon. He becomes even more confused once he realizes that the pseudodragon is the young master the butler referred to. Joining the others at the table, he addresses the pseudodragon: "Are you the young master of this estate? Because I don't believe I know of any pseudodragons amongst the nobility."
Hearing Kaida talk about magical artifacts and quests, Jean can't help but feel a little wary. "Might I ask what these magical artifacts are, and what these quests entail? I would think it prudent to know what exactly is being asked of us before agreeing to do it."
Elizabeth has heard the dragon, trying to think of a nickname before Wilfan gave one as she agreed with it. Then Kaida talked about how they have a bit of potential, but don’t know how to reach it yet and that he would show them how. They just have to assist him with recovering lost magical artifacts. “I-I would be interested, yes.” Elizabeth has said back with a nod, wondering about her potential and if that’s why she found this viol that seemed to call out to her. Then she was hearing Garner, seeing his burned arms and feeling bad for him. She heard him question why this is not troubling them and Wilfan said that Kaida is only a pseudodragon so he doesn’t breathe fire. “Yeah, and he seems nice enough.” She had said back to him, nodding. Then she heard Feth agree to this as well and ask if by potential, it means that he’ll get to learn magic. Soon she listened as Jean questioned what the artifacts are and what the quests entail, nodding in agreement as she was curious and realized that it would be good to know these first.
(While you can't readily tell the sex of a pseudodragon just by looking, Kaida's telepathic voice is male, if high-pitched.)
I'm not officially nobility, if that is what you are asking; I am just well off and live well, as it were.
...
To start with, I want you to collect some magic gems. Should be simple, right?
(Tea is served, Kaida gives you a few minutes to drink and talk among yourselves.)
But getting them would not be possible as you are right now! That's why we need to unlock your true potential. Kaida leaps down from his high chair onto the floor and scampers towards a doorway in the back. Please follow me, I have everything set up for us in a back room!
Kaida leads you all into a back room, torch-lit with a stone circle on the floor, inscribed within which is a pentagon with six circles, five at each corner and a sixth at its center. Kaida runs to the center circle, clearly excited. Quick, take your positions at the five circles around me, and we can begin unleashing what has so far been locked within!
Walking slowly around the outside of the shape Wilfan studies it closely trying to memorize the design. Are each of the five circles the same? Does Wilfan recognize the design?
Each circle has it's own glyph inside it, Wilfan studies them all and comes across one that calls out to him: an abstract representation of two people, one standing in front of the other; the one in front is quite small while the one behind is much larger. Something tells Wilfan that this is his circle.
There are four other glyphs on the outside: a rose, a crown, a wolf, and an abstract arcane symbol; the glyph at the center is the same stylized dragon that was on a banner outside Kaida's house.
Elizabeth had heard as Kaida told them that first he wants them to collect some magic gems but that they can't do that as they are now, needing to unlock their true potential. He said to follow him, doing so along with the others toward the door before arriving in a back room where there was a pentagon on the floor with six circles. Kaida went into the center one, telling them to take their positions at the other circles, nodding. But she wasn't sure which one she was supposed to go to, looking at the circles and seeing that each of them have different glyphs inside. Elizabeth liked the rose one but the crown seemed to be calling out to her much like this black viol had, knowing that it was her circle as she went over and stood inside of it.
