Adventurers of all races, I am currently recruiting 4-6 players to take on adventures in the Tales from the Yawning Portal.
ABOUT THE DM - I am a moderately experienced DM, but fairly new to PbP DMing. - I am still trying to wrap my head around all D&D rules as best I can, but mistakes happen! - I play D&D for fun and am not strict about rules, as long as things seem to be going smoothly and fairly. - Feel free to bring any concerns to me at anytime, I listen and am open to discussion!
ABOUT THE GAME - The adventures will take place in Faerûn in the Forgotten Realms, I would like to know your characters place of origin and experience with the lands (traveled a lot already, foreigner and new to Faerûn, city or village person.. etc., no need to go into too many details). - Tales from the Yawning Portal is a collection of adventures, and it’s possible to play them as a campaign, but there won’t necessarily be an overall plot. Mostly, a group of adventurers going from one mission to another. Depending on how things go, we can build an overall plot or just have fun exploring the various adventures. - I want this campaign to be for characters and group development, so will encourage characters interacting with each other a lot, and build relationships and stories together in addition to whatever adventure they are on. - I will try to use maps and visuals when possible. - Feel free to roll checks when you think it applies, I can always adjust the modifier if necessary.
ABOUT THE PLAYERS - You will be nice, respectful, have fun, and creative with the story we build together. - You will use a color for speaking in character in the posts. - You will try to post daily if possible, and give a fair warning when away for more than 3 days* - If possible, you haven’t played/read through the Tales from the Yawning Portal adventures yet. - You will avoid meta-gaming (your character will still act based on his own knowledge and experience, not the players) * Life happens, and I totally understand D&D is not a priority in many cases
ABOUT THE CHARACTERS - Any official race and class** - Level 1 characters, roll for abilities (re-roll ones and you can re-order the scores) - Standard equipment, but we can discuss minor modifications before starting the game - Milestone advancement, fixed HP and active encumbrance rules - No Evil alignments ** /!\I Do Not Have Content Sharing Enabled For This Campaign, You Unlock What You Need!

Character Name: Spotty Class & Race: Kobold Rogue Alignment: Neutral (definitely leans toward LG/NG, though) Background: Adventurers' apprentice (Sage) Place of Origin: Some cave somewhere.
Backstory: He was just a baby when his clan, who'd committed evil deeds, were killed by a pair of adventurers. Those adventurers then found him and took pity on him, adopting him as their child, though they often treated him more like a stray cat. At first he wanted to become a wizard like his adoptive mother, but he didn't have the patience for all that reading. However, he has shown great cunning and a talent for thievery. After traveling with his 'parents' for a while, he now strikes out on his own, wanting to make his own name as an adventurer. He knows being a kobold might make it difficult, but he's ready to face that challenge.
About me: I'm all about role playing. I love character development and interaction. I also enjoy combat quite a bit. Exploration isn't my strong suit, but I'm certainly not opposed to it.

Character Name: Nick Vult Class & Race: Wood Elf Rogue Alignement & Background: Neutral, Soldier Place of Origin: A small town before joining the army, very traveled due to scouting for them. Backstory: Nick was bored of his small backwoods village so he joined the military against his parents wishes to get out and learn about the world. He proved useful as an infiltrator, able to find information very quietly and a way in to places easily. After spending a couple of decades doing this he learned the world was a bunch of lords squabbling over some stupid land. He decided to go and experience something he felt was interesting, so he left the army and headed out for a real adventure. Link to Character: https://ddb.ac/characters/11025159/ZmsUEv
What I’m looking for: I would just love to have a fun game with some great players
Character Name: Zak Vidal Class & Race: Half-Orc Barbarian Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Background: Haunted One Place of Origin: Somewhere in Faerun
Backstory: Zak's human mother was captured, raped and tortured for years by a band of Orcs who kept her as a slave prisoner. She died giving birth to Zak, and the Orc clan kept the bastard Half-Orc around as a slave and a play toy to the other "normal" Orcs. Zak was born somewhere in Faerun but he does not know the exact location. Zak grew up in the Orc camps this way, and eventually grew strong and hardened given the conditions that he was raised in. He managed to escape the Orc camp a handful of years ago and has been living on his own in the outskirts of towns and forests basically avoiding people. He is socially inept, but has slowly came around over the last little while with actually speaking to other people and trying to integrate himself into the given town that he currently is residing outside of. He ultimately dreams of one day having a normal life and and finding some friends.
About me: I used to play D&D via PBEM many years ago and am just getting back into it now with PBP. I enjoy a faster paced game (with the understanding that PBP is generally slow by nature) and combat would be my most enjoyable aspect of role playing. Looking forward to getting into some amazing adventures!
Character Name:Gwenant Geddings Class & Race: Half-Elf Paladin Alignment: Chaotic Good (Leaning Neutral Good) Background: Gladiator Place of Origin: A small village called Stowham in the Faerûn countryside, from which she was kidnapped
Backstory: Originally a child of farmers, Gwenant was kidnapped from her home after she went exploring a little too far from the safety of her village. The small band of brigands who captured her, themselves little more than farmers who'd been driven to crime by a famine in other part of the land, decided to sell her to an underground pit fighting ring in a larger town. A fellow gladiator there took Gwenant under his wing, and taught her how to survive in the ring. Years passed before an opportunity arose, but when Gwenant and a few of her fellows saw that the man guarding their cage was drunk and leaning just a little too close to the rest of them, they seized their chance for freedom. As theirs was a smaller underground ring, there were relatively few guards to contend with, but Gwenant and her fellows were unarmed. The brawl that ensued was fierce, and during its course Gwenant felt a surety of purpose and strength that she couldn't explain, but refused to question. Many died in the fighting, but when it was all over, Gwenant and a scant few others escaped. Now free to plot her own course, Gwenant took to wandering, hoping to find either the men who'd originally sold her into the ring, or the scant remnants of the ring itself, scattered after the revolt. But of course, nothing comes free, and so when she began to run low on gold and supplies, she searched for a job that would play to her particular talents.
About me: I have plenty of experience with D&D, though I too am still getting used to PBP. I am a team player, and thoroughly enjoy role playing and combat alike, though I am certainly willing to try more exploration-based play.
This is aggressively mediocre. If the dm will allow me to reroll I’d like to do that.

Character Name: First Mate Class & Race: Druid / Kenku Alignement & Background: CN / Pirate Place of Origin: Sword Coast Backstory: First Mate was just that, a first mate. During his time on the pirate ship he learned to sail, steal, and read people and situations. Character Name: Inssol Class & Race: Gnome Wizard Alignement & Background: True Neutral Sage Place of Origin: Parts Unknown
Backstory: Inssol has been traveling Faerûn for as long as he can remember. Well, he's been traveling by himself for a few months. He comes from a lineage of nomads who will travel the world, selling scrolls and potions alike to wanderers and townsfolk alike. Due to their size, figuratively and literally, they strayed from big cities for fear of being robbed. Inssol, though he understood, did not share this fear. Living in a world were just about everything and everyone towers over you has filled his eyes with a sense of wonder. So much so, that Inssol didn't even wait until he was of age to ask his parents to be an adventurer. They were skeptical at first, but with his growing skills as a magician they saw it was plausible for him to live on his own. With the promise to send letters every month, Inssol set to find quests.
Character Name: Sizan Sidrosin Class & Race: Yuan-Ti Alignement & Background: Lawful Neutral, Cloistered Scholar Place of Origin: Sword Coast - Candlekeep Backstory: Born of a union between a Yuan-ti pureblood spy and an avowed of Candlekeep, Sizan would grow up without his mother's guidance when his father became aware of her true nature and intent. Sizan's father nevertheless continued to raise his son all the same, fatherly love and hope in his son having swayed his heart. Later, he even grudgingly accepted his son wish to seek out his mother for answers when the allure of books could no longer contain the boy's curiosity. But not without consequence. Thus, in an effort to obtain both the influence and wealth to support his search, Sizan worked with an old contact of his father from his adventuring days, eventually becoming a full fledge member of the Harpers. He has since been working with the organization of the past few years, learning the tricks of the trade, but never forgetting his end goal. Link to Character: https://ddb.ac/characters/8453948/GiZrij
Backstory: Hef has spent his life in and around Waterdeep. The second child of parents that were well off enough to keep him fed and clothed but couldn’t afford to get him a decent education, he learned that his size and muscle could at least make him a comfortable wage. He’s mostly taken jobs from merchants, escorting shipments to nearby wards, or even towns outside of Waterdeep proper. He’s seen little of the world and it shows in his demeanor.
About me: I am old to D&D and new to 5e. I spent a deal of time playing Pathfinder and am looking forward to getting to know a new system. I work in an office m-f and will be regularly able to post from there, weekends are a bit spottier as I’m generally out of the house on some other adventure. I grok that it may mean I’m not for this particular game. But hopefully someday I find a good fit.
I'm going for a fighter at the moment because of the easy learning curve.

Character Name: Renny Class & Race: Human (Variant) / Sorcerer - Draconic Origin Alignement & Background: Lawful Good / Sage Place of Origin: Waterdeep Backstory:
Renny grew up around books and lore. Her mother died when she was a baby and her father, already an old man at the time, had a hard time keeping up with a kid but was able to keep her entertained with his large library of stories. When she was a little older, he got her a part time job at one of the libraries where she helped organize books and eventually help with research.
A little before her 19th birthday something happened. Her memory is fuzzy on the details but she remembers there was fire. Her next clear memory is yelling and people running to put out fires in the stacks of the library.
The immediate aftermath of the fire was unpleasant to say the least but as her actions were unintentional, and clearly something out of her control, she was ultimately not held accountable for the damage. She was sent to a wizard academy so they could try and help her control her power.
She spent about six months there before she inadvertently insulted the headmaster and was kicked out. Instead of trying to get into another academy she opted to try striking out on her own.
She doesn't know this but it would be interesting to find out during play.
Arcane Origins: You were made in a vat by an alchemist.
This also suggests the parents she grew up with were not her biological parents and gives an open question on whether they were aware or not.
Her draconic origin is from a Gold Dragon. This much you could easily surmise from the gold scales that appeared on her skin.
Backstory: Martin grew up in the Mithril Hall as the son of a poor farmer. He felt an early call to the service of Lathander and so as soon as he was old enough he left home to join the temple in Neverwinter. He rose through the ranks swiftly due to quick mind and devout heart but soon realized that there were many priests that were not following the wishes of the god but using their position to abuse the populace. He began to actively battle these corrupt ways but in his fervor he alienated many of those in the leadership and ended up being exiled from the temple and so now he is looking to find a group of companions to travel with and preach the tenants of his faith while also attempting to correct the wrongs of those who "serve" Lathander. He seeks to eventually grow strong enough and gain enough favor with Lathander to eventually return and set the temples back to how things should be. Deposing those who have been sullying Lathander's name.
I am a player who typically ends up being the DM. I enjoy the RP and interaction aspects with other players to create a fun and interactive storyline. I am looking for an opportunity to just play and see what this character can develop into as a "person" with a fun group of other players who like to develop their characters as well.

Character Name: Peregrine Maus Class & Race: Monk, Halfling Alignment & Background: Lawful Neutral, Sage Place of Origin: CedarSproke, in the Gulthmere forest, near the Sea of Fallen Stars. Backstory: Pereg grew up under the benevolent despotism of the various circles of druids who oversee and protect Gulthmere forest. Yet, despite his philosophical leaning and aptitude for history, he was not chosen to join their circles. In spite of this, he attended Earthome College in the discipline of History. A bright, disciplined student, he excelled, and eventually taught himself several languages and became entranced by the study of martial arts. Gleaning all he could from Earthome's library, he found himself beset with more questions about the world than answers to provide them. With a troubled heart, and the realization that, not being a druidic initiate, he would never gain any real influence as a researcher or historian at Earthome College, Pereg set out on the road in search of knowledge, wisdom, and answers to unsolved mysteries.
As for me, I have been on dndbeyond for just over a year now, and have enjoyed much of my time spent here, both DMing and playing. I have been playing D&D for about four years now, and DM for a group at my college. I enjoy RP and story moments over mechanics and war-gaming, like to develop and evolve a character as a game goes on, and enjoy playing a variety of races and characters. I can post pretty frequently - usually at least once a day and sometimes more, but, as you say in your intro, a pbp game does not often take priority over many real life things.

I am a player who typically ends up being the DM. I enjoy the RP and interaction aspects with other players to create a fun and interactive storyline. I am looking for an opportunity to just play and see what this character can develop into as a "person" with a fun group of other players who like to develop their characters as well.
"Lord Arunduil will bring death to us all"
Arutha Lvl.2 Human Fighter: Arsenal of the Orc Lord
Milamber Lvl.1 Human Sorcerer: Curse of Strahd
Masque: Lvl.5 Gith Cleric: Age of Death
DM: League of Improbable Adventurers: Chapter 1 of Arunduil's Bane
Ability scores: 16 12 14 14 16 15
Character Name: Peregrine Maus
Class & Race: Monk, Halfling
Alignment & Background: Lawful Neutral, Sage
Place of Origin: CedarSproke, in the Gulthmere forest, near the Sea of Fallen Stars.

Will edit tonight, adding rolls, backstory, and a bit about myself.
Thank you to all who applied! Players have been selected!
I sent a PM only to those selected. All applications and characters were really interesting, but I had to pick a few.
Sorry for those who weren’t picked, hope you find another game to join soon :)
