George listens to the conversation about the Magical Bandits and DARPA Monsters loose in New Mexico and shakes his head slowly.
'I miss the days when drug lords, terrorists and militia nutbags were the worst things I had to tackle. Still not sure what the F#$K happened or how the hell the world got so crazy, but it seems to me someone needs to clean up this mess. Would you be willing to grant us leave to cross your lands to handle these threats?'
He turns and looks at his comrades 'I know we came for T&C, but being ambushed by murderous invisible ninjas really pisses me off.'
Aleister expresses an interest in the Nature magics mentioned; he will share/trade his 'spells' for any he can learn from the shamans.
"I don't like getting backstabbed any more than you do, George, and I am willing to go along. Its just I have come to the realization I'll have to pretend to be healing someone when I am trying to shoot someone else, and I haven't quite worked out how to do that just yet." Aleister grins and chuckles. "Still I really want to try out a couple of these bombs. And if I do, folks gotta steer clear a bit lest they end up breathing fire the wrong way, if you catch my drift."

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
"I admit, beyond the fact of helping people out against something dangerous is pretty cool - being a hero and all that - I'm also really curious what's come out of the labs or elsewhere. Is it magical? Is it another species? Are we seeing the creatures of fantasy come through into our world again? So yeah, there's that."

“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar

The apprentice with the patrol shows you Animal Messenger for sending messages back to base and Pass without Trace for ambushing people who shouldn't be here.
Another days travel. It is mid afternoon when the owl spots about 10 people with horses camped by the side of the road. They have a certain Native American aspect to them even though they are mainly dressed in flannel shirts and jeans.
You finish with the patrol and move on
Day 7 6108
A peaceful day's travel
Day 8 116
Travelling in the morning you see vultures circling out in the desert.
"Want to check out what is dying out there? Or feeding? The vultures would have landed otherwise."

Uthvern looks to the others, "We should bury them. Souls of the dead wouldnt want their bodies to just be left to rot in their entirety. Probably anyways."
"Their bodies won't rot," Sarah disagreed. "They will simply nourish the world. It's a better end than most pre-Change burial practices where they pump a body full of all sorts of awful chemicals. If you want to bury them, you can, but better they feed the living, in my opinion."
'I'm less concerned with burial, and more interested in who they are and how they died. We shoudl try to run off the cougars for a bit and check out the bodies if we can.'
George studies the animals for a bit (Hunters Mark) before approaching them and making loud noises, and throwing loose rocks in their direction.
Investigation to see what I can learn on the bodies: 14

Thomas covers George as he checks out the dead people, agreeing with Sarah "Now that the world has changed, the cycle of life has gotten a lot smaller. Let them feed on anyone we don't know, as far as I'm concerned. They have a job to do as well."
Gamliel again keeps watch from on high, well out of arrow range. Perception T/G 7/ 23
OOC - Well, that's kind of neat. Seeing the same with two sets of eyes.

Aleister will use 'Speak with Animals' to ask the cougars to let him search (see what non-eatable things) the bodies, making sure they know he does not want to eat any part of them - the bodies. He will give they some tastier treats (jerked meat - seems that that would be something most travelers would carry these days) for the favor.
OCC If Aleister needs a roll -- 2 not sure which modifier is needed for spells, if rolls and modifiers are needed at all.

That's good enough. You persuade the cougars to let you check out the bodies. They have an Hispanic look to them and appear to have been tortured before they where killed (throat cut and the tongue pulled through the wound) . Their bodies have been striped of anything valuable but you do find a locket on one of them with a picture of a woman with two young children.
Aleister will keep the locket, carefully memorizing the feature of the three people so if he meets them he will know who they are.
"Any scum that would do this deserve to be killed out of hand, which is what I will do whenever I run into them." Said in a very calm tone there can be no doubt about what Aleister will do should such a run-in occur.
He thanks the cats and tells them to take great care with any groups people, probably males for the most part, who are moving northward from the south.
"That style of mutilation is a Colombian necktie, done by the warlords and gangs to people who fail them or talk too much. Looks like some of those gangs you had to deal with, George, have expanded Northward."

"Might as well. Could give us an idea of whether anything dangerous to us is in the area."
You find a family of cougars feeding on three dead bodies (people).
