Aleister is looking for any information regarding what DARPA was up to before the Change.  Crowbars can pop open secure file cabinets fairly easily; it was the alarm/security systems that made them so secure - if you managed to get to the files in the first place, started breaking in, as opposed to teasing it open via electro-mechanical combination lock dialers; security forces, aroused by the alarms, would put you out of your misery.

 If that doesn't work, Aleister will ask the others to try; and failing that seriously float the idea of using one spool of monofilament to slice open, very carefully of course, anything that such an effort could practically applied to.

'I'm not opposed to fighting whatever shows up here at night, but I agree that we should be more prepared if we choose to do so.  We should also think about converting our bikes into cargo carriers.  If we load the bikes down and walk them, we could move all the armor and wire on 4 bikes and leave 4 us free to scout, forage and fight if need be.  The other option would be to work up a couple of pull trailers, we could keep the cargo lighter in each trailer and each pull closer to 60-70k. Alesitar - you're the resident tinkerer - think you could make something like that work?"

 After a bit of effort you open the filing cabinets. There's a mass of paper here that will take some time to go through but the broad strokes are

Sarah's eyebrows rise nearly to her hairline.  Maybe the Change wasn't so awful after all.  Who in their right mind would pursue even one of these projects, let alone all off them?  Perhaps an overnight wasn't such a good idea...

'CRISPR, huh.  Awesome. They were making actual monsters here.  That almost certainly is what's roaming around here at night.'


George looks around at his comrades.  'I don't know about you all, but I don't feel right leaving whatever is here to terrorize the area.  We may need to do some prep and come back, but I'm in favor of taking this thing down.'

"What do you think we'd need that we dont already have?" Thomas asks "Some more fire bombs?"

'Well for starters, it would be nice to gather more intel on what we might be facing, and then come up with a plan to take it down.  Granny, is there anyone in town we could talk to?'

 The townies where just support staff here. When the Change occurred the army types moved all the researchers out. I don't think anyone still in town had a security clearance above emptying waste baskets in the offices.

"Monofilament," say Aleister.  "Figure some way to locate, distract and draw the thing into a trap.  We need to know a few things: how big it is, if there is just one; is it fast and how fast; where can't it go that we could.  For example; find a narrow lane, alley, whatever, string it with monofilament and get the thing to chase a few of us and we slid under the wire while it gets turned into chopped liver, or whatever it is made of."  He shrugs nonchalantly.  "Some trap along those would probably work.  But first, I suggest we reconnoiter and see just what we are going up against; find a place up high for an overwatch where we can be fairly secure for the night.  I mean it's not like we are in a hurry or anything, that could just as well get us killed."

Were there any detailed maps of the area; building layouts, etc.?

"I agree we shouldn't leave it and Aleister's plan is sensible.  Let's hurry up, though, and get set up for the night."

 Option 1 Go back to town and come back early tomorrow

Option 2 Option 1 plus take all the paper with us to check overnight

Option 3 Option 1 plus take all the armour and wire

Option 4 Option 2 + 3

Option 5 hold up in the armour warehouse overnight

Option 6 Option 5 plus all the paper to read before bed

Max is happy to stay the night “That door makes a good choke point to defend if the monster comes looking for us.” He starts looking through the papers, out sorting the Project Francis documents. “Oh! Interesting.” He reads “The subjects where fitted with tracking chips and shock collars as a means of control.” “Subjects”

Sarah palms her face and groans.

Thomas can't help but laugh "Timing is everything, eh? Looks like the warmonger's pet scientists learned what being on the receiving end of their pets is like." He instructs Gamliel to watch from high above for the night and to loudly wake him if anything happens, or alert who ever's on guard if he can't. "This wire doesn't last long out of the package, but it might be good to have ready to deploy at the door."

"Can it be used as a whip?" Sarah asks.

"100 meters? Not likely"
