That would be fabulous. Thomas will use his bonus action Dash ability to act as a forward Scout.

No good for now. The first part of the trip is on the 22 to Detroit Or, a paved road. The PPA troops where supposed to leave the road to go overland at that point. It's a couple of hours after midnight. If you leave now and push hard you will reach Detroit by midday. Once you leave the road your chances of tracking improves.
OOC: Can the birds provide a tracking assist from above?
Don't see how that would work. But if you had a bloodhound, for example, you would get advantage on your tracking roll and loose the disadvantages for ground surface type. If only there was some magical way for you to get access to a bloodhound.

Animal Handling
When there is any question whether you can calm down a domesticated animal, keep a mount from getting spooked, or intuit an animal’s intentions, the DM might call for a Wisdom (Animal Handling) check. You also make a Wisdom (Animal Handling) check to control your mount when you attempt a risky maneuver.

Wild Shape
Starting at 2nd level, you can use your action to magically assume the shape of a beast that you have seen before. You can use this feature twice. You regain expended uses when you finish a short or long rest.
Your druid level determines the beasts you can transform into, as shown in the Beast Shapes table. At 2nd level, for example, you can transform into any beast that has a challenge rating of 1/4 or lower that doesn’t have a flying or swimming speed.
Aleister will talk to the warhorses and ask if one of them would accept him as rider. Speak with Animals He will make sure that they understand they'll be well taken care of and never mistreated. He would rather work with them as partners than as a possession.
When the party sets out, Aleister will use his Wild Shape, transform into a wolf and seeing if he can pick up any scent of the group they are after. He will do this frequently.
As the party moves along he will use his tracking skills as a Ranger, paying particular attention to the margins of the road, where there should be plenty of sign scattered hither and yon, as least for Ranger eyes. (How much time has past since the slavers left?)

The first part of the trip is on a paved road so conventional tracking is next to impossible. However in wolfie form you aren't tracking two day old marks on asphalt DC30. Instead it becomes DC20 (still +10 for two days old) with advantage. If you actually start moving and don't rest you can remove the 2 days with time.
Oh, and the horses are okay with you. The knights treated them well but as expensive equipment not friends.
"Well we need to push hard for two days," Aleister says. "Then the tracking will get a bit easier. We need to pay close attention to the verges of the road, in case they leave it."
He will have Ofn and Terfysgeath circling overhead on the look out for trouble - ranging both flanks , ahead about 500 m up and out.
He will ask the warhorse he is riding if he likes the name Mab'y'Gwynt (Son of the Wind)? If so he will be so called.
OCC So the group we are tracking camp on the asphalt? How many are there again, roughly, McKenzies that is, them plus 10 men-at-arms and two knights, yes.

Yes to the number you are following.
The difference between characters - you call the horse Mab'y'Gwynt, Max calls his horse Daisy.
You push hard and reach Detroit, Or around midday. Do you want to ask questions of the locals. This town is halfway between the Warm Springs reservation (Confederated Tribes) and Corvallis. It is unaligned.

George can cast longstrider on a small number of people (say 6) for the chase with the larger group following behind.
That would be fabulous. Thomas will use his bonus action Dash ability to act as a forward Scout.

OOC - dog isn't an option on the FF list, unless the DM allows the addition of other creatures.

OOC: Cat and Weasel have advantage on scent based rolls, right?
Also, I assume we've stolen horses and cast the spell on them? Should I update my character sheet?
Possible, but not what I was thinking of.
‘Stolen’ is a bit harsh. Liberated. Which do you have, warhorse or ridding horse.
OOC: Riding for Sarah. Someone else might make better use of a warhorse.
