Tozo steps out of the stairway, then glances at Mordai and pointedly at the brazier. "Well, naturally we are not at my laboratory, so it would be difficult to show you the full breadth of my experiments. But, for instance, I can see this brazier is acting as a similar necromantic focus to some of my own work, siphoning life energy from the ritual participants into the caster." He glances at Mordai again while continuing to talk to Vitae, gesturing towards the brazier and the pedestal.
"As for my own results, would it surprise you to learn that I am three hundred years old? I'm afraid the way I do it is much more tedious: slowly and carefully preparing rituals that focus on energy transfer from plants and trees, enough to leave them alive. That way you don't need to find any new subjects, yes? But draining it right out of people! Why, that is a marvelous and innovative advance. I simply knew I had to come see for myself." The gnome grins broadly. (13)
He looks thoughtful for a moment. "You know, the locals say you are quite mad." He chuckles. "Yet what is madness but unrealized genius? And if a few deluded peasants, ahem," he glances back at the three peasants near the stairwell, "happen to be the price of experimentation in this important line of work, well, it cannot be helped. I am sure they know what important work they're contributing to."
Tozo nods at the peasants on the pedestal and near the stairwell. "Your sacrifices will not be in vain. This is important work you're giving up your lives for!"he repeats for emphasis.
Morgan moves slowly to H4 listening to Tozo talk. He knew a small amount about magic but this was far beyond anything he had tried before, he listened closely to Vitae. He also listened to Tozo, he did not know him well at all and with the interest of the experiments this worried him. These experiments were wrong but he knew he needed to find out why he had woken up with no memory, could Vitae be involved or was he nothing more then the mad wizard he was explained to be. Morgan stood ready to jump at a moments notice but listened for his time.
Donovan moves to the center of the room. (I,6) standing directly across from Vitae, looking at him through the magical flames. Don knowing little about ritual magic, let alone something of this dark unholy nature, addresses Vitae.
Well this is astounding! The peasants are lucky to be able to give themselves to a greater cause. He taps his chest and raises a fist to his god. I’m not a big city healer but this is such a rare medical technique one does not see it every day. So does the health of the giver affect the recipient? Let’s say the giver is ill, if the giver is removed would the giver die upon removal from the pedestal?
"I had assumed you were some buffoons sent by that pony from down the village. Instead, I have the pleasure of receiving fellow pursuers of immortality. Marvelous".
He seems enchanted with Tozo's ideas, but is quick to attempt to show his superiority:
"Ah, well, that approach would be extremely inefficient, considering the way spell components are consumed. Are you obscenely wealthy or how can you have a spellfire burning for months without its kindling running out? I myself, I prefer to achieve results in a much quicker manner, sacrifices be damned!'.
With this, you can hear the three peasants behind you murmuring. Vitae seems oblivious to this, however. He continues:
"And yes, they think me mad, but I will show them! I will make them see, that I, the Great Vitae, have defeated death!".
Then, taking notice of Donovan, he responds, affirming what Donovan had assumed from his magical instincts anyway:
"In order to transfer something, it needs to be there, so yeah, the healthier the specimen, the better. And, no, if they were to be removed, they would simply cease to be part of the equation. There is no way to reverse this process, but, otherwise, removing a specimen will only result in them no longer factoring in the spell. They would simply be unconscious and very, very tired and hungry. It won't result in any kind of catastrophe such as if someone was to put out the fire mid-process, of course".
Finally, he turns back to Tozo:
"So, having seen the process, have you been satisfied with my greatness? What do you wish to learn from me? Once I am done here, I might require an apprentice, you know".
During all this, Reginald goes over to Vitae's desk, covertly looking over his papers. They mostly seem to be rambling and incoherent, though one part does catch Reginald's eye. A piece of parchment on which a couple of sentences are legible: "Should find out what that magical discharge was in the south east. Newcomer Involved? Maybe! Mayhaps she wants to get the Great Vitae's attention. She will get it soon".
Here's the placement of characters after Vitae has finished talking:
"I had assumed you were some buffoons sent by that pony from down the village. Instead, I have the pleasure of receiving fellow pursuers of immortality. Marvelous".
"So, having seen the process, have you been satisfied with my greatness? What do you wish to learn from me? Once I am done here, I might require an apprentice, you know".
Tozo nods, ingratiatingly. "Yes, I can see how having the sacrifices on the pedestal would enhance the necromantic connections. Clearly your brilliance far outmatches my own." He turns back to the peasants. "Truly, it is so wonderful that you are willing to throw your lives away for the sake of this innovation!" and raises an eyebrow at them.
"Would you permit me to magically examine these auras more closely, for the sake of my further edification? I'm so fascinated by your cleverness! I promise I'll be careful and won't disturb anything, of course."(Persuasion check: 17)
Arcana check to possibly see how long the peasants have to live: 18
"My humblest apologies with asking this questions Oh Great Vitae, but who is this woman you speak of that is new to the area? I would greatly enjoy spreading the knowledge of your greatness to her."
[OOC: If things start to go south, I am going to cast Magic Missile at 2nd level at the brazier hoping to destroy it and anything inside of it.]
Tozo's words clearly have an effect on the peasants, as they seem beleaguered, though Vitae is failing to notice that. Instead, he seems angry at something entirely different:
"Why do you keep using that word?! Necromancy is a worthless art, below someone of my stature! No, this will not do! You will have a lot to learn, my apprentice cannot make such childish mistakes! So yes, go and examine everything, learn about everything, I will not allow my name to be dragged through the mud, if someone finds out my apprentice is so ignorant!"
At the same time, Mordai deduces, that the spell seems to be somewhat slow, but it will take roughly an hour for it to drain the four peasants of their life energy and transform Vitae into a young and healthy man. Then, he asks the question, to which Vitae replies, still angry:
"Did no one tell you, that you should never read a wizard's notes?! The information about that Elven woman was written only for myself! Once I deal with this insolent student of mine, I will find a punishment fit enough for you! A severed right arm should do the trick!"
However, at this time, the older man from the peasants steps forward and shouts at Vitae:
"What does this spell do? Will it really kill my son and others?"
Vitae seems incredulous.
"What is this? Why does everyone speak out of line? Why has everyone forgotten their place?"
With this, he shouts something and lets out a spell, which hits the three peasants (The ones not on the pedestal) and knocks them backwards, likely rendering them unconscious. The placement of others in the room has not changed. Vitae turns back to you.
"Now, I believe you will know how to hold your tongue, unlike my previous servants!"
As the conversation goes on Regis eyes start farting around the room to see if there is something he could use as a weapon. If he sees something he will circle around the room toward it.

Gash- Lvl14 Goblin Wizard - The High Court of the Aasimar Queen
Mordan listener to Vitae and as soon as he said about the brazier being the main part to the experiment he began to almost mad eye his allies and the brazier. Trying to get someone’s attention. He meant to push it over in hopes to break it and with the peasants being thrown down beside him, he was at an edge of waiting.
He truly began to hate Vitae, how could someone do that to his own people? How could he cause damage to others with no care for them? And to top it he was pulling life from others, this was going on for to long.
OOC. If Vitae continues without any information of what happened to them (which is likely) he will run to the alter and try to push it, what check would I need to make?
Mordai quickly scans the room and sees, that there are four large iron Candle Sticks standing on the floor, roughly 4 feet tall each, currently all of them without candles in them, in each corner of the room (So, E4, L4, D9 and K11), which can function as a greatclub. Also, there is a letter opener on Vitae's desk on J10, which can function as a dagger).
Here's a candlestick and a letter opener, so you can visualize them (sizes not to scale, of course):
Tozo clucks disapprovingly. "Oh dear! The peasants seem not to have taken kindly to those remarks."
While Vitae is distracted casting the other spell, Tozo looks at him and makes a pass with his hands. "I wonder if perhaps it might be best to go downstairs and abandon the ritual for a few hours? All these disruptions are taxing the efficacy of your work, perfect as it is. Picking this up another time with more obedient servants would surely guarantee an even greater result. It's much more important to ensure the continued obedience of your servants if one is to get any work done."(OOC: Tozo casts suggestion.)
As he finishes, he shudders and stares momentarily into the distance as a brief vision of doom washes over him. (OOC: Tozo uses his Portent roll of 1 on Vitae's attempt to resist.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tozo's spell seems to work like a charm, with Vitae failing to offer any resistance. However, the mad wizard does not seem to be affected in any way. Instead, one of the peasants of the pedestal (the only adult male) begins to thrash about violently, as if a giant had him in his palm and was waving him around. His body and his face contort horribly, until his eyes, nose, mouth and ears start leaking blood, and, with one bloodcurdling scream, he jumps from the pedestal, falling in the direction of the door, but collapsing as soon as he leaves his former place. He is, quite clearly, dead, with his body essentially dissolving into mulch. The other three peasants on the pedestal seem not to have taken notice of this, remaining in their old position.
Vitae, witnessing this, despite his madness, is able to make a deduction:
"You little liar! You tried to put a spell on me! and, worse, you succeeded! Thank Light these wretches are here to receive all harm that those like you may want to inflict upon me! He was unable to obey your command due to the spell, and look what happened to him! You will pay for this insolence! I will make you watch, as I use these rats to make myself immortal and I will feed you what remains of their decomposing bodies! And, what is worse, I will dismiss you from the position of my apprentice!"
With this, It is initiative. Here is the placement:

"Oh dear. I am sorry it's come to this." As his companions move in to assault the deranged wizard, Tozo hisses. "Get them off the pedestal first, or we'll only be hurting the peasants instead of you-know-who!" He steps next to Donovan (OOC: move to I7), then makes a clenched fist with his hand and extends his hand outwards, then brings it up to his mouth.
He shouts, "Alesso!" The gnome takes a deep breath and blows across his palm. A blast of wind howls towards the brazier, Vitae, and the peasants.
(OOC: 10' wide, 60' long line emanating from Tozo in the direction of E10. A gust of wind also "extinguishes candles, torches, and similar unprotected flames in the area" so he's hoping putting out the fire and knocking the peasants off the pedestal is enough to harmlessly dissipate the link between Vitae and the peasants.)
Tozo's attempt is valiant, but does not achieve its intended results. The fire in the brazier is clearly magical in nature, so the gust of wind fails to extinguish it. A similar thing happens with peasants, as they are magically restrained and the wind cannot move them, only slightly ruffling their hair. However, there is one clear effect, that can be deemed to be positive. The gust of air, when hitting the brazier, slightly moves it, and it clearly disturbs the fire, meaning that the fire is magical, but the brazier within which it burns, while heavy, is clearly mundane in nature and can be targeted.
At the same time as the wind hits it, magic missiles impact upon the brazier as well. The brazier is slightly dented, but the fire remains burning.
Reginald is the first to rush the mad wizard, but in his haste, does not manage to take into consideration the blood splattered on the floor, which causes him to slip. He is able to right himself and not fall on his face, but this takes way too much time and energy, causing him to miss Vitae entirely.
Seeing his spell fail to do anything to the brazier, Mordai rushes to overturn it using physical force. This finally catches Viate's attention, as he shouts:
"Insolent Whelp! Get away from the sacred flame!"
With this, the mad wizard uses a reaction ability and manifests a large creature in between Mordai and the Brazier. The creature looks like a floating brain with a beak in front and barbed tentacles below. His appearance stuns Mordai, who is able to parry the creatures attempt to strike him with his tentacles, but cannot proceed with his attack. Here's the creature:
Here's the situation in the middle of the first round of combat.
