Evelina nods, "I don't suppose there's anything we can do to help?" she asks, drumming her fingers as she sits cross legged on the floor. She doesn't make eye contact with anyone, and instead rubs the carved images on her staff.
As Evelina says this one of the boy's perks up but a quick glower from his mother shuts him up.
"Well," Savanah say, "if you find things in the wild and need someone to sell it to you can always come here. What few merchants come through here are always looking for a good bargain."
The old man comes walking into the courtyard flanked by Arm and Balfour. The trio is chatting easily and the feature of the man are revealed by the light of the fire.
He has leather like brown skin and almost no fat to his body. He seems old but he moves like a man half his apparent age. Clear golden eyes, almost like a wolf, scan everyone.
He smiles warmly at the kids and sits at the common table.
"Hello." his voice cracks a bit as if it hasn't be used in a while. He makes eye contact with any of you and nods to Savanah.
"Trouble is coming this way." at the words the whole family tenses and the boys run into the house. Savanah seems shaken and looks toward the group.
"Please try not to interfere." her voice trembles and she leaves you to your meal.
The Oldman takes a plate, fills it up and starts eating. He makes a satisfied smacking noise after th first spoonful.
Arm will follow Savanah, and try to speak with her. Ma'am, if there's trouble, you know we'll have to interfere. We're here to put an end to the troubles of this land. Can you tell us more about what's happening?
“Well now now, the key is sayin we shouldn’t interfere with it. She would ask our help if she wanted it. She’s been doing a wonderful out here without us and I think she will continue to do so without us. We bout to get in our own set of trouble clearing this land. We can’t be going every little way just because some old man started spinning fairy tales. We need to stay focused.” Otwald has a hard time hiding his uneasy feelings about the man that joined for dinner.
Evelina stands up, "But if they need help we shouldn't just stand around and do nothing. I want to help if I can."Gripping her staff, she walks to an unoccupued window and peers out of it, looking for anything new that might be out there.
"I believe we would do well to do as our host as asked unless she can confirm their actions as banditry or otherwise unlawful we do not have the authority to act in a legal and meaningful manner to assist her. I would instead argue we watch and if something does occur we can intervene." As she says this she watches as three members leave the room, setting her spoon to the side before following them out, unwilling to sit back and have them do something regretable she follows them out, walking in step behind Arm.
I hope they do not do anything to rash, a new authority of the land yet unestablished is a large enough a target as is, drawing the wrong type of attention now could be deadly. And while doubting the homesteaders could fight us off it would be a terrible first impression on the region to look as tyrants. Unless they could draw the otherside to attack, any action they took besides talking would make us look weak. Less than a desirable situation, that much is certain.
Savanah wheels around and she becomes set and angry.
"I have children here and if you take action they might get hurt." she is clearly scared.
Out around the table a voice, the old man, shouts...
"They are just the hand that take not the heart of evil Savanah. The hand takes more and more. It won't stop."
Silence hangs heavy for a second then the old man shouts again.
"Hey,.... they are here."
Outside the walls Keyyra and Belfour are the first to see a group of thugs rolling in. They are five of them. The leader is a human woman with a very large bow. She is followed by four men two obvious scrappers. One looks nervous and is looking everywhere as if expecting trouble, you all know the type. The last one also seems nervous but in a very different way. He looks out of place in his fine robes but follows just the same.
Their brazen attitude deflates a bit as they see the rest of the group sitting around the fire.
"Well, this is a gathering." The woman says, stopping at the gates. The others start fanning around her. She calls out " Savanah, come here." her voice is commanding and brook no compromise. She seems used having it her way here. " Where are the BOYS ?".
Savanah comes out with a pack. She moves toward the woman and it seems to you all that it's like a walk of shame.
Balfour settles deeper into the shadows and watches as the party approaches Savannah. He knows a shakedown when he sees one, but will stay out of sight until something happens.
This is Savannah's place and her play. Unless they hurt the children. That's not happening while Balfour stands.
Ready action: Balfour will hold all actions until one of the thugs threatens the boys. If they overtly threaten the children but don't touch them he'll put an arrow in the dirt at the thug's feet and step out of the shadows.
If they actually touch either of the boys or hurt Savannah, he'll loose an arrow at the offender. If needed Attack: 23 Damage: 9 plus Sneak attack if applicable 4
As Savanah comes out, Arm follows her, but waits in the doorway; his intention is to be seen but not to do anything that appears threatening, or to get too close to the newcomers.
Savannah comes out with the bag, but a cry stops her.
Tom, standing on the roof of house his bow ready waits.
Adar moves in front of the thug leader a cudgel in his hand. "This stops now. You have been robbing us for 5 months and hurting us. If we give you that., " she points to Savannah's bag, " we starve."
The next thing happens in an instant.
"Let me tell you." the thug leader backhands the teenager, " I RULE HERE."
Toms arrow slams into her, a second later.
I took the liberty to roll the initiative.

Evelina looks out the window, angry and confused. Boys? Why would they care about boys. And why was Savanna looking so... scolded.
