Hey folks, we’ve had a player who needed to drop down to playing the occasional guest spot, so we’re looking for a new player.
If you’ve applied before, feel free to apply again, and feel free to roll up new stats.
We are currently in the employ of Lord Graff, minister of the interior for the Kingdom of Bastion. His jobs are various, involving everything from fact finding, and exploration to busting up criminal organizations, or llicense to kill sort of stuff.
We have
- a Halfling hexblade warlock just trying to keep up with her problems - a wood elf scout rogue dishonorably discharged from the Wall - a dragonborn brute fighter back from the Wall, heading home to the coast til he was caught up in events that compelled him to stick around - a half elf sorceress with a mysterious power who was on her way up in lord Graff’s employ when she was inexplicably attached to this group of newbies - a Goliath zealot, changed from a simple road crewman to another member of the gang after an unfortunate kidnapping had him fighting monsters in an illegal pit fighting ring
Level 4. Few magic items. Discord (if you haven’t used it before that’s fine, but it’s a much quicker pace than dndbeyond). Homebrew is okay as long as you check it with me. The party could use a full caster in the realm of a bard/cleric/Druid (doesn’t need to be focused in healing, necessarily, although it’s a plus). They need someone with ingenuity outside the box, not a wrecking ball of damage.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

Ability scores: 111015171513
Name: Vaden 'Lucky' Tormson
Race: Variant Human
Class: Cleric (Trickery)
Background: Criminal
Backstory:
Vaden is known as 'lucky' to his peers and others among the criminal underworld of Bastion. He grew up in the city, his parents disappearing when he was young, and leaving him to fend for himself. He did so, partly through chance, but mostly through his finding a soft-hearted follower of the Goddess of Luck to take him in. When he was old enough to get out of the temple and on his own, he found his gifts from the Goddess a great boon in decieving and swendling the average person. he spent severa lyears working his way up the criminal underworld.
Recently the group Lucky was working with was broken up by Lord Graff's people and Vaden found himself given a choice. he could either join a group working under the Lord or be hauled off into a prison. He chose the first option, of course.
Kobold druid possibly? Let's see what the numbers come up with. Not too short it would seem.
Boots was not always called Boots...but that is for later in the story.
Boots was hard worker, often the lead digger in the team. Which meant, after the accident, Boots was the last out. Ordinarily, a kobold in such a maimed and mangled state would have been shown swift mercy; and such would have been the case but for the firbolg stranger who had helped so fervently in the rescue, his great size and strength able to hold the fallen beam and permit the trapped diggers freedom. The firbolg took Boots away to his forest home, tended the kobold's injuries throughout the long years of rehabilitation and taught of the druidic ways.
On returning to the warren, things had changed. The kobolds were now under the strict but benevolent employ of the Guild of Ducts and Sewers. No longer able to work the tunnels, the guild administrator found Boots employ as a cobbler, servicing travelling merchants. Eager to please, word quickly spread of this most unusual tradesperson whose services were rumoured to bring a little extra luck to the customer.
I have some questions, as I am pretty interested in what you've mentioned about the setting (and that you've kept a group together this long.):
How do you feel about UA. Is it case-by-case?
Idea One is a half-elf wildfire druid. He takes the eladrin ancestry his people claim and draws upon the aspects of Summer. Father was a reputable elf veteran who distinguished himself despite the general distrust, and his human mother was seen as something of a 'race traitor'. His father taught him to win hearts so that other elves might have a better life someday.
Idea Two: Kalashtar Bard (eloquence). Could you touch more on the kalashtar? How strictly controlled is the royal bloodline? What makes them kalashtar or is it just a mechanical thing? My working prototype is highborn and formally educated. Her specialty is the spoken work and rhetoric, but she's handy with refined instruments like the viol.
Finally, you mention Gith as being unheard of but they aren't ruled out in the way that Ravnica is. I would love to bring an old school gish with the psionics Wizard. It wouldn't bring healing but it would definitely bring some 'out of the box' utility and support. (I assume this one is the least likely).
Pending a response, here's my stat rolls.
Ability scores: 11141510914 Yeah I'm going Point Buy. XD
Case by case for UA. I’ll think on the wildfire, but the other two, sorry, no dice. Kalashtar and Gith, I’d need to hear a really convincing reason why/how
Fair enough. I won't try to change your mind on those two.
If you drop the axe on Wildfire I will still run druid, I think. Just a different subclass. I was hoping for Wildfire because thematically it's a little more drawn to adventuring. My other favorite Circle is Moon but I know that's a pain at low levels sometimes and it doesn't bring as much healing. I will put together a sheet and let you decide. It's easy enough to change
Thanks for the response! (I am still intensely curious about the royal bloodline though. :D )
Ability Scores: Point Buy. 9/12/16/10/18/12 after racial adjustments and level 4 ASI.
Brief and Tentative History: Born to an interracial couple, both soldiers, Jhaan was always expected to serve his Kingdom. His human father impressed upon him quite early how much adversity his mother had faced as an elf, and how long she had to fight to be seen as an equal. As a military brat, he was raised by the elvish community his mother had come from - a community which tried to foster and revive the fey blood in his veins, and encourage him to be an advocate for the natural world, a world which was so often trampled by the necessities of war and industry.
When he was old enough, Jhaan went to the wall. He served for over twenty years, during which time old injuries and the passage of time stole his father from him. He was a good soldier, and though he faced some adversity for his godless magic and pointed ears, his comrades came to trust his intentions and appreciate his effectiveness.
Not everyone is born to be a general, though. Jhaan knew he didn't have the ruthlessness or leadership qualities that were needed as a commanding officer. He requested his discharge papers, got a few words of advice from his CO and his mother, and set off to do good in the world.
Trivia: Jhaan was given the elvish spelling of his father's name, and took the common translation of his mother's surname.
Regarding Aeden Yaeldrin: Jhaan likely served at the same time as Aeden. Its possible that he's aware of the reasons for Aeden's discharge. Jhaan is a well-intentioned man and would likely have given Aeden the benefit of the doubt, but perhaps he doesn't know all the details. If you accept Jhaan, I'd like you to decide what he knows of the so-called dishonorable rogue. Of course, the wall is long, and much happens there. Perhaps he's never even heard of Aeden.
This game has had several players cycled in and out: one of the biggest complaints has been that it moves very fast. With that consideration, I’m going to throw it out there that this is a game for people who want to be in a game with a fast speed. I check in and keep things moving as often as I can.
I can also say that I’ve had quite a few compliments on this game for its details and depth. I also work hard to draw players in with organic story, so I hope you’ll discuss your backstory.

Ability scores: 9151112109
Name: Link
Race/Class: Fierna Tiefling Cleric (Unity Domain)
Background: Link is a young Tiefling who has been brought up in the faith of the Speaker with the Firbolgs in the North. His family had been run out of Bastion before being taken in by the friendly Firbolgs. Since coming of age, he has traveled as a missionary of the Speaker. Though he may not have the force of personality to convert the common folk, his good deeds more than make up for his lack of a silver tongue. He works to both spread the message of the Speaker as well as improve the perception of Tieflings throughout the kingdom.
More than happy to work on the story/background to fit into the narrative as needed. I felt like the Unity domain worked well with the Firbolg religion as well as providing that creative/support caster, but if you'd prefer to avoid UA stuff I'm open to suggestions about domain.
Rolling stats for new application. Thinking a utility wizard might be more fitting than what I applied with last time. Damage mitigation through crowd control.
Goals: Continue exploring the magic he learned from his stepfather. Contribute to the peace and prosperity of Bastion. Make amends with his mother and vindicate his father. Elevate the social standing of elves in Bastion.
Alignment: Lawful neutral. Tharivol learned on the wall that peoples of all walks of life need to work together for the betterment of all.
Tentative Backstory:
Born to Malquis and Fivin, a pair of farmhands, Tharivol was born in a potato field under the open sky. Though Tharivol's childhood was a relatively happy one, if humble, his parents eventually grew apart. He lived with his mother for several years, and she brought a new partner, a man named Elarim. Elarim was an arcanist, of a sort, and from his new stepfather, Tharivol learned a bit of arcane magic as well.
Malquis was not fond of the arcane arts, knowing how Bastion loved the gods, and would often express disapproval at the deepening bond between Tharivol and his stepfather.
Tharivol saw how his mother struggled in the fields, and gradually honed his magic to assist her. He was not a master, however, and there was an accident while he was helping her with a load, crushing her leg and rendering her unable to work. Malquis did not take this well - her bitterness and pain caused her to lash out, irrationally. She reported the accident as an assault from her ex, Fivin, and abandoned Tharivol and Elarim.
With his burgeoning arcane abilities and Elarim's teachings, Tharivol left for the Wall. There was little to keep in his hometown anymore.
On the wall, Tharivol was a solid support for his unit - though he did not draw on the blessings of the divine, his unusual ability to influence the battlefield and shift forces and momentums in unexpected ways proved a subtle boon to his comrades. He served honorably for 30 years before word came in that he was being reassigned - a special order from Lord Graff, Minister of the Interior.
Tharivol packed his belongings and made for the capital.
Alright, stat-wise, I think I'll be going with point buy.
Lorelai Bronwen
Race: Glasya Tiefling
Class: Bard, College of Glamour
Background: (Outlander) A Tiefling foundling taken in by a Firbolg family that resided in the Northern forests, Lorelai grew up in the harsh environment as a spoiled, pampered child. Despite the warnings her parents gave about the persecution her people faced at the hands of humans in more populated areas, she still longed to travel south, convinced that her silver tongue and lovely singing voice would somehow make her the exception to the rule. Leaving home once she came of age, and armed with her trust lute and bardic magics, Lorelai journeyed down to Bastion. While she mostly sings for her supper, she also works for Lord Graff on occasion, hired to be one of his informants, since her innocuous appearance and status as an entertainer gains her entry into places nobles can't normally reach.
As far as goals go, Lorelai isn't really one for long-term plans, but she thinks it'd be nice if she could change people's minds about Tieflings, or least her specifically, and spread her songs to a wider audience than she'd ever be able to reach from her hometown.
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral. Lorelai firmly believes in putting yourself first, but she takes care of her people nearly as fiercely as she'll protect her own interests.
The backstory's a bit bare bones at the moment, but I'm definitely open to filling things in or reworking details so that the character fits in better within the story!
