May I ask how much posting is too much? If accepted into your campaign I don't want to be cycled out for too many posts. Thanks.
If someone posts every time any other player does anything, or otherwise starts stepping on toes because they don’t know how to give up the driver’s seat to someone else once in awhile, we’ll talk first, I won’t just YEET anyone out of the campaign. Don’t worry too much about it. It’s more rare than people imagine.
Just curious when will you be deciding on applications @nschrock
Wednesday. I might pick out more people for a second group to run through the same game once I get the first group started. I’m just happy people like this world and I hope people like my stories, and add to them. So I’ll try to get as many people in and playing as I can
Are you allowing the use of any source material outside published books (UA/homebrew)?
Fly it by me first, but sure. I’m pretty open minded. Customize whatever. Just understand that I won’t always say yes, although I’ll try to help you get a character to the point I will say yes
Race: Half-Elf (High) Class: Paladin (Oath of the Ancients) Ability Scores:16910161311 Goals (short/long): After living in isolation, he just wants to see how other's live and help out however he can. Long-term, find a group of like minded people to join up with and protect the world from those that seek to destroy and/or corrupt it.
Backstory:
Sarteras was born and raised in a remote Elven settlement. His father, Rehlen Tinuviel, is a half-elf ranger who earned the trust of the community with a lifetime of service in protecting the borders of their community. His mother, Shanaera Datoris, is a high elf wizard in the service of the local mage guild. Together, the happy couple raised their son to value the heritage of the high elves and to protect and respect the world they lived in. Once Rehlen felt Sarteras was old enough to handle it, he would take him out into the wilds when he ranged to learn of nature and survival. As Sarteras matured further, his father would involve him in small ambushes on foul predators of the wilds to teach him the art of combat and ambush.
Later, while back at home spending time with his mother, she would teach Sarteras about magic and how it worked. Shanaera would spend extra time teaching the young elf about how best to defend against magic wielding opponents, as she could see the warrior side of him dominating his outlook and wanted to ensure he had the tools to survive against these potentially dangerous foes.
For his part, Sarteras appreciated both of his parent's teachings. He saw value in both, though he ultimately would live his own life. He found a peace while spending time in the wilds and was inspired to protect them, but he had a nagging desire to see what life was like outside of his homeland. Perhaps it was time to strike out and find his own place in life? His travels have brought him to the trading post of Aurok’s Pasture, a growing settlement along a major trade route.
He's an ex-mercenary who used his magical abilities to help his band survive another day. He doesn't have a degree in any particular branch of magic, preferring to use spells that are the most useful. He wishes to become strong enough that people don't want to provoke him or those he cares for unecessarily. He's the youngest of five, and the only one still living out of his family, parents included. He'll fight if his friends are in trouble, but he doesn't make friends very fast.
Backstory: As a Goliath her clan was constantly on the move because of the signs of the wild their druids would sense. Sumazura spent many years attempting to become a druid unsuccessfully but eventually through shear determination she learned to harness the power of the body and began to channel the sun
Occasionally her clan would stumble upon wreckage's left by bandits on the roads in their travels, deciding to investigate the wreckage of the merchant caravan Sumazura stumbled upon several books of stories about wondrous cities and villages across the lands in this region. She spent many years combing the pages of the book she had found and around her 16st birthday she decided she was tired of the barbaric life she was born into and decided to leave her clan to find a better way.
After making her way through the forest Sumazura's first stop was to a small town. Deciding to spend some time in the city getting to know the inhabitants Sumazura worked with a cleric name Ardak and quickly learned the ways of a more civilized people. After several years working with Ardak, Sumazura fell in love with Erathis the god of civilization and decided it best to make her way to a larger settlement. Sumazura had a plan to travel to villages, towns and cities to learn different ways of life but eventually found herself in the big city. Looking for work Samazura stumbled onto an apprenticeship with a Painter and spent a few years learning the ins and outs of big city life. One day Sumazura hopes to return to her tribe and teach them a new way of life.
Calm down, I'm currently at work so I don't have a lot of time to make sure everything is perfect. It also takes about 5 seconds to change those both of those, nor does it matter before my character is selected but thanks for being ever so vigilant.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
A couple of questions for the Dungeon Master, if you don't mind: 1) Is multiclassing free game or does it need to be precipitated by ingame events and/or roleplaying? 2) With regards to the Ranger class: would you consider "urban" to be eligible for the Naturel Explorer class feature? (for the feature states "naturel environment) 3) Considering you are a first time DM, are there any restrictions or limits on the actual character building mechanically speaking? I ask because D&D is ultimately still a game and some character builds/options are objectively better than others. I will admit that I occasionally have an inclination towards optimizing, within reason/roleplaying and certainly not munchkin like the coffee-lock, but it is still optimizing nonetheless and it could potentially upstage certain encounters or other players... 4) What about HP when leveling up? 5) What's your stance on encumbrance and coin weight?
That being said, I am looking towards a Noble Background, potentially Human or Half-Elf. Anything more on that or shall I have a go at writing one up?
Rolls for said character (I did it wrong previously, I had the reroll 1 clause active. Apologies) Ability scores: 128129158 Oh... damn... Those are rolls I haven't seen much before ^^'
1) let me know how you’d like to multiclass beforehand and I’ll make sure to present you with the option. If you don’t RP the option laid out before you, then understand that you won’t multiclass. I want you to make the character you want, but I don’t want to have sudden, inexplicable shifts in class/abilities
2) sure
3) Build a character that’s fun for everyone, not just you. It’s not a one man show. That said, take advantage of the strengths your character has. I want you to enjoy your character, and I want to enjoy having him/her in my campaign.
4) I’ll roll it if you’d like it rolled, or you can choose the average. Once you’ve decided, that’s that.
5) I’m a fan of encumbrance. Be warned: bags of holding won’t show up for awhile
I had a character planned out who only needed to multiclass into Bard and continue down that path to wind up with 16 to 18 skill proficiencies at lvl 6/7, of which 4 or 5 with expertise, and be combat support + de/buff but that might be a tad OP...
Kaylen Fiers spents most of his time wandering the countryside challenging anyone to a duel to prove that Dwarves and Dwarven culture is superior and that he is the mightiest Dwarven champion. Short term goal: establish reputation Long term goal: build own legend and become a tale to be told to future Dwarven generations. (both subject to change in case of roleplaying opportunities. More fleshed out background at a later date. Putting up this blurb because the deadline draws near) https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/Furujiru/characters/15768437
Alright folks, all players for the current campaign have been chosen. At some point in the future, I may start another group, so I’ll hang onto this and reach out to some of the rest of you if you’re still interested.
I’ve had a couple players drop out, but we’re still going pretty strong. I’ve filled one spot, but I’d enjoy getting another player in.
Just to make clear: this is a pretty active group. Some folks can post more than others but I’m hoping to find players who will sync well. This group mostly manages to find a couple minutes to read and/or post several times a day on most days. A day or two go by with out a player posting, I don’t worry. Go several days, and I start to worry. I put a lot of work into making sure everyone is a main character whose backstory is meaningful to their development and the story at large.
I hope to get applications from people who enjoy writing a story together. I’m very proud of this, and I’d like you to be proud, too.
We have:
- A Hexblade halfling, who has clear ties to someone secretive
- An elf scout rogue, fresh off the Wall, although the audience does not know why he left the Wall yet
- A half Elf Oath Of Ancients Paladin, with an interest in his heritage, and looking to fill his father’s shoes when it comes to standing up for others
- a human land Druid, alone in the world, and far from home, swept up by events he could never have foreseen
- a half Elf Sorcerer (custom origin, similar to storm) who has been clearly marked by her powers, and is employed by a local lord whose motives are ambitious but unclear whether they are overall benevolent or selfish.
These are pretty general descriptions that are missing lots of nuances, but can’t risk spoilers. So:
I’d love to see a character who finds a niche of their own in a group like this. Feel free to use tropes, if you can do it well, or make up a backstory that makes your character entirely unique.
if you bring forward a character whose defining feature is his class, equipment, or dice mechanic, I will print out his/her character sheet, spit on it, and throw it on the ground.
————
if you’ve already applied once: feel free to try again and roll up something new! New rolls for new roles
Can you get your sheet up to level 3 and fill out your Spells?
also, I’m not seeing that as an entertainer background. Care to elaborate, or perhaps a folk hero background would be better suited? Feel free to pm me if you would like some assistance
I'd like to play a kobold alchemist, and I have some questions before I complete the backstory.
1. Are artificers allowed? You mentioned there would be few magic items early on, so if you want to remove some infusions (such as Bag of Holding replication), I'd be fine with that.
2. Are the characters still in Aurok's Pasture?
I suppose I'll roll stats now as well. Ability scores: 1313109168
