With a moment's concentration, Guilliame summons four small lights and spreads them out a little above head height so he can see the rest of the room.

The shop itself is small with its wares spread out on small tables between the front entrance and a counter at the back. Beyond the counter, there is a doorway that presumably leads into the Fini residence itself.

Guilliame begins to collect up some samples of the writing supplies that Master Fini forgot to mention: having paper is all very nice, but people will be needing to buy stuff to write on it as well.

He is just about to renew his Dancing Lights cantrip (it only lasts a minute) when he hears a soft bump from the direction of the doorway at the back of the shop. The sound is closely followed by the sound of a cat's meow and a ginger tom suddenly leaps up onto the counter to stare at Guilliame balefully.

And that, of course, is when Guilliame's Dancing Lights cantrip runs out plunging the room into comparative darkness.

Put down what I have in my arms on a flat surface (Hopefully). Do another Dancing lights. See if the cat will come to me and if not try to lure it with a dancing light.

Guilliame re-summons his lights, but the cat can no longer be seen, and before he can look for it, there is a knock on the shop's door.

Turning to look at the door, he sees a young man wearing the robes standing at the doorway looking in.

"Hello," says the young man sounding uncertain. "Are you open?"

"Hello, sir. Master Fini is away at present but I can serve you."

[OOC: I would like you to decide now if Guilliame is wearing his School journeyman medallion.]

"Okay," he says, taking a tentative step into the darkened shop and looking at the four small orbs of light that Guilliame is concentrating on.

After a moment, he says, "I am a student at the School of Occult Studies, and I have been told I need to purchase a book to write my spells in..."

At this point, the ginger tom cat leaps up onto a table close to the young Stemian.

After a momentary start, he smiles and reaches out to pat the cat, who responds with friendly head butts against his proffered hand.

"Someone told me this was the place to come, but I don't understand why the shutters are boarded up?"

OOC Guilliame is wearing his medallion. I've forgotten the business name I came up with. Do I recognise him from school?

"Master Fini is closing the shop for a short period for personal reasons. We will be stocking his goods at at <business name> just down the road. By the way I am a fellow student. Is that your cat?"

[OOC: The name of Guilliame and Naomi's shop is 'Masterful mixtures'. Yes, Guilliame does remember seeing this young man around the School. Like Guilliame he is older than most new students, which is why he stood out.]

"Oh, no," says the student. "I thought he was your familiar. He is a familiar, isn't he?"

At this point, the young man closes his eyes and then opens them and looks at the cat, who is being very affectionate towards him.

"He's definitely someone's familiar... But why is he being so affectionate towards me?"

"It's not my familiar. Let me turn a proper light on."

See if there is a light source handy. When the Dancing light stops do a see the arcane spell and have a quick look around.

[OOC: Sorry for the delay in replying, but I had to go to a work function tonight and I've only recently returned.]

Guilliame finds an oil lamp on one of the tables and uses his Prestidigitation cantrip to light it.

As his Dancing Light cantrip fades away, he turns the oil lamp up to it full brightness. It is not as illuminating as the Dancing Light cantrip with its four lights, but it will last longer and doesn't require him to concentrate on it.

He then closes his eyes and opens them with his mage sight active, and the first thing he notices is the cat, which is clearly not a normal tom. Its outline is golden with mana, no matter which direction he views it from.

Guilliame then checks out the rest of the room.

[OOC: Guilliame has used his mage sight on familiars before at the School and the way this cat appears under mage sight is different. Familiars are minor spirits summoned to this world from another realm and they take on the appearance of an animal chosen by their summoner when summoned. However, even though they may look like a normal animal, they are not, and this can be seen using mage sight: their magical glow appears fuzzy around the edges and they look a little blurry. This cat doesn't look this way. The golden outline of its body is distinct and it seems very solid, not fuzzy at all. The upshot of this is that Guilliame no longer believes this cat is a familiar.]

[OOC: Sees nothing else of arcane interest in the shop other than the ginger tom.]

"I think he likes you because you are a customer. What would you like and I'll organise it for you."

The young man laughs and gives the cat a scratch under the chin while saying, "I need a book and pens and ink and I've been told they all need to be of the highest quality."

[OOC: Guilliame knows from personal experience that his own spellbook cost 5 engles from this very shop. A bottle of ink cost 1 engle and quills are very cheap: 1 cub each.]

"That will be 6 engles and 1 lion for the book, ink and 6 quills."

The young Stemian man looks a bit taken aback for a moment, but then says, "That's expensive, but it's also what I have—exactly."

He pulls out a purse, walks over and hands six golden engles to Guilliame. Meanwhile, the cat is getting in the way and continuing to rub up against his legs.

"Who's cat is this?" he asks. "Anyone would think it was expecting me to feed it."

Guilliame looks around the shop and then gathers up the pot of ink, the quills and a book similar to the one he himself purchased several months ago. He then finds some lesser quality paper to wrap the book up into a parcel and a small hessian bag into which he puts the sealed pot of ink and the quill pens.

The young man accepts the parcels when Guilliame hands them to him and then awkwardly holds out a hand.

"I see from your medallion that you are a journeyman of the School, sir," he says. "My name is Samuel Camus. Might I know your name?"

"Good to meet you Master Camus. My name is Guilliame de Marchant, sir. The cat belongs with the house, or perhaps vice versa."

Despite his awkwardness with the parcels, Samuel's grip is strong and confident.

"Masterful Mixtures?" he queries. "I saw your shop just a little down the way. Do you deal in herbal remedies and the like?"

"Yes indeed. Soon we will be the one stop shop for all your magickal needs."

"Oh, that sounds good," says Samuel.

Then, after a moment's hesitation, he asks, "I don't suppose you're looking to take on any new staff, are you? I was always helping my mother with her preparations and have picked up quite a lot of knowledge about herbs and remedies. I'm also thinking of studying under the master herbalist at the School, so maybe I could help with new preparations."

The cat is still bumping up against Samuel's leg quite insistently, clearly wanting attention.

"Why don't we head back to the shop and we can discuss it with my grandmother. She is the brains of the operation."

If Samuel agrees then gather together the supplies, pack them into the backpack and head back to the Masterful mixtures.

"By the way do you recall a student called Armand Guss?"
