Just did a sum on the wealth, and sadly feeling less wealthy. Being able to employ 20 skilled labourers for a year does not seem wealthy. So can't even run a proper household. But I can probably employ a decent retainer or two...
In terms of objectives, here's what Brand would do:
1. Seek help from the SooS (he did this before, and before he "died" Master Nathaniel acted as a mentor. If the timelines are not too dissimilar, this would be good to start. I think the warlord helped (this was around the time of the Last Chance mission, I think)). Hopefully father/warlord can help?
2. Get a bandolier and a sturdy belt with pouches, both wire-reinforced and attachable to each other. These will be used for storing knives, stones etc as needed.
3. hire some help. See father's advice on this. Someone with trustworthy credentials; preferably a list, or a list of sources. I expect anyone he recommends will be a plant, but broad advice will be good. How does one hire in Constantin? Do I have any "old chums from the good ol days" (when I evaded my parental will at every opportunity)?
4. I'm a rogue. Have I contacted the local powers? I assume I should before I do anything slightly nefarious.
.. I just checked your book. Wamzut gets 10 engles a month and deems it very generous. That's skilled labourer +25%. (if I am right that months are 40 days). It doesn't seem very generous considering who and what he is.
If 5 days of skilled labourer earned one CON, that would be more likely to be very generous.

Definitely a very stingy father: labourer works 5 days, gets 1 engle. I carry the weighty family name, have to keep up with the latest fashions (or at least not be embarrassing), and spy for the warlord apparently for free...and work 10 days to get an engle. Glad I'm independantly wealthy. If he wants a loan, I charge interest.
You have the conversion factor wrong (see 'the coinage of Engle' on the World Anvil site). In the Expenses section on D&D Beyond, a common labourer (untrained) earns 2 sp (of D&D money) per day. The Engelian equivalent would be 2 lions (the larger copper piece). So in a tenday, a common labourer would earn 20 lions or 2 constantines (the engelian silver piece). A gold engle would pay the wages of five labourers for a tenday. D&D is hyper inflated, the result of which is that players have their characters walking around with ridiculous amounts of coins on their person, an aspect of which I am trying to get away from.
And with regard to the found coin you mentioned earlier, do you remember, or have noted somewhere, whether they were coins of engle or from another civilisation. For example, the dodecagonal gold coins that the group pulled out of the temple on the Lonely Mountain were much larger than an engle (which is the size of a five cent piece) and worth ten times an engle in sheer weight of metal, let alone their possible value to collectors of such things.
Note also that your allowance is not something you need to work for. It is something Brand's father has forgotten about and the servants keep giving him. He also isn't paying for room and board and has access to most of the facilities of the estate. The work Brand's father does want him to do, he expects to be done because Brand is his son, and he hopes loyal to the emperor.
Finally, on another matter, I note on Brand's character sheet that he is the second son. Did you ever do anything on Brand's older brother?

In terms of people to have his back, I don't mean people who would die to defend him so much as people who would watch a door for him, or walk the more shady parts of town with him etc.

I *think* he was subsequently retconned away; originally he (or Brand, I think) was a priest of Venuss. I remember some ceremonies in a cavern or something...this is really blurry...before brand even met the main party. Then I think Brand became adopted. Then Brand became only son. Maybe.

Cool. I was basing it on what you (or the site?) wrote in the notes my character sheet: "Note: A skilled labourer would need to work for five days to earn an engle."; a conversion factor of 10 is what I thought I must have missed.
And with regard to the found coin you mentioned earlier, do you remember, or have noted somewhere, whether they were coins of engle or from another civilisation. I will see what I can find. Pretty sure they were not Set Empire coins tho; and if they were, the 'engles' on the char sheet probably reflects post-sale value.
Note also that your allowance is not something you need to work for...
No longer in the stingy camp. All is forgiven. Love you dad. Though I like the idea of him being stingy. Perhaps Brand grew up thinking he was stingy because he was always sent on bloody errands 8-}.
EDIT: Just realized that this was also in the first set of scans.
More gold (figuratively) on the way (will be in google drive link I sent earlier)....Sen Yen may be the other one with wealh. He retired to mind the tower due to lost arm, IIRC.
Key points:
- there are dates!
- Brand was in Constantin when the shit went down with Dworkin ([ooc: my summer holidays?]). In the "good" timeline he was visited by Dworkin on 8-2-551 (where 2 is the month) who wanted to destroy the ring. He was in Constantin to visit the SooS because Wamzut had said there was something strange about him. I'm guessing that in this version Dworkin didn't turn up, and his investigation at SooS continued, but maybe got interrupted by something else? Would be nice to continue it.
- DaiSan died in battle with Hugh
- Sen Yen was in tower
- Brand left for Last Chance on 22-2-551, with various magical items previously discussed. Perhaps some or all were returned? Or this hasn't happened yet?
- Brand used the name Falco Varsil when, and has "wanted for questioning" posters put up, when travelling to Last Chance!
Docs there now; which leads to the main question: where are we in the time line. Does Brand know Dworkin has disappeared? Is this a second visit AFTER D went all setty?
Oooh. and I just thought: the temple of Grod still exists and so does Andrew's old charater....and mine! Thats has to please Andrew: you didn't kill ALL of his characters! 8-)
Another weird fact: I just remembered I was playing Sieglinde when the stuff with Dworkin went down (I wonder what happened to her). She was also psychic and the ring gave her massive headaches; something about it being anti-psi.
I presume this was because Brand wanted to visit the SooS about his powers etc.

I have to admit that the Elephant was mainly to see if you were reading. That said, I am giving serious consideration to a family menagerie. People did a lot of that in the past. It would be fun if it was my mothers preoccupation , or fathers (or both), and not a business as such, and if I could give material support to it (if needed). [ooc: I don't like zoos, so it it was it might have to be an exotic animal refuge or something]. I could also imagine there might have been an elephant that he bonded with, or something, when he was young. Or we could skip the whole thing.
For the mother is might have started as a thing to remind her of "home" and for the father it might be a source of excuses to travel far and wide: "eccentric old fool is off again and he took a whole boat to save a pelican".

You just roll the appropriate dice and add the appropriate bonus in the 'Add to result' field. Also, please read the 'Uncertain skill checks' on the world site. As an example, in this case the hidden part of the roll was a zero, which means Brand's Insight check was a 12 + 2 + 0 for a total of 14.

Result: Brand is beginning to think his old criminal connections are leery of him because of what his father is and does. As to what the Difficulty Class (i.e., the DC) for the roll was, that you don't know.

My theories were Dad and Dworkin, or both.
It's probably close time for me to make contact with someone; suggest a meeting in a safe neutral location.
The gist of my approach might be:
"We both probably know why I don't seem to be included in the business these days. I understand that, but I don't think that's to either of our benefits. My new connections have no interest in local crime; and even if they do, I don't -- at least not in that capacity (smirk). They are preoccupied with things that disturb the smooth running of the empire. And I think that's something we all share; we all need prosperity so that it can be shared, each in our different ways. I have not and will never betray my oaths to the guild and I will not betray connections, or my family. I take my personal connections seriously -- tell that to XXX [oc: whoever I used to deal with, if not present]. What I would like is to perhaps set up unofficial contact, perhaps I can help in small ways. And in return, I would like to hear of things that are unusual. Non-guild lawlessness is bad for everyone. I am also happy to discuss helping in any way that does not severely conflict my loyalty. We've dealt before. You know me; I think we can make this work."
Finally, on another matter, I note on Brand's character sheet that he is the second son. Did you ever do anything on Brand's older brother?

In all cases that he was present I think the brother was absent/black-sheep and Brand was nominated heir. I'm happy to with him being heir and remaining unaware of any brother.
Cool. I was basing it on what you (or the site?) wrote in the notes my character sheet: "Note: A skilled labourer would need to work for five days to earn an engle."; a conversion factor of 10 is what I thought I must have missed.
The use of the word 'labourer' is what is causing the problem. In the Rules As Written (RAW), a Hireling (untrained) earns 2 silvers a day, which would be 2 lions in Engelian money. A Hireling (trained) would command 2 gold a day, which would be 2 cons in Engelian money. A trained hireling might be a scribe or something like that, whereas an untrained hireling would be a labourer or a common house servant.
No longer in the stingy camp. All is forgiven. Love you dad. Though I like the idea of him being stingy. Perhaps Brand grew up thinking he was stingy because he was always sent on bloody errands 8-}.
That would depend on whether Brand has an older brother. If he doesn't, then he would have to be a very disobedient son to put himself at risk in the criminal underworld of Constantine when he is the heir. I also would think that any 'errands' Brand was sent on wouldn't be to do with his spying activity. Too young, too untrained, and too valuable to put at risk. I would think that Brand would have known that his father was up to something shady, but didn't really know what that was until after he returned to Constantine.

Interesting set of points; I'll have to think about the heir stuff. He clearly buggered off. He also clearly hooked up with the thieves guild. I'd suggest neither were at the behest of the father. My thinking on the errands were "deliver a written message", "pick up a thing", "takes notes at a meeting", "follow me and keep your mouth shut", "sort these files". Not "join the thieves guild" -- that's probably something he did by himself when the chance presented itself (possibly via entrapment). I don't see him as such a dutiful son as might be deemed proper.

[OOC: I have some contract work to do, so I'll be on and off sporadically today.]
Finally, on another matter, I note on Brand's character sheet that he is the second son. Did you ever do anything on Brand's older brother?
I *think* he was subsequently retconned away; originally he (or Brand, I think) was a priest of Venuss. I remember some ceremonies in a cavern or something...this is really blurry...before brand even met the main party. Then I think Brand became adopted. Then Brand became only son. Maybe.
Let me know what works best for you.
For example, the dodecagonal gold coins that the group pulled out of the temple on the Lonely Mountain were much larger than an engle (which is the size of a five cent piece) and worth ten times an engle in sheer weight of metal, let alone their possible value to collectors of such things.
In light of recent financial revisions, add the the people I want to hire: an investment adviser.

See previous correction
Updated to say skilled labourer would need to work for 50 days to earn an engle.
Ball bearings(4) Four total, or 4 bags?
4 in easy access (for distractions, bag in satchel)
The above would work, but for around town they would use a satchel or basket rather than a pack.
Satchel added. I've also added Bandolier and Belt and Cummerbund and Sash to fulfill same purpose in each outfit.

Kitchen sink; leave 10' pole with Elephant. LOL. Seriously though, the elephant wouldn't be allowed in most towns and certainly not in Constantine unless under strict guard. I would presume, Brand would have a horse (and/or even a carriage and driver, if he wants them).
Slowly going through the backlog during breaks from work. Hopefully I'm catching up.
Are you regretting this yet?!?! Is it useful yet?

Result: Brand is beginning to think his old criminal connections are leery of him because of what his father is and does. As to what the Difficulty Class (i.e., the DC) for the roll was, that you don't know.

It's up to you. Brand would have more freedom if he wasn't his father's heir, but having an older brother might also have its disadvantages.
In all cases that he was present I think the brother was absent/black-sheep and Brand was nominated heir. I'm happy to with him being heir and remaining unaware of any brother.
