"Good morning M'Lady" he said. "Interesting tidings last night. Looks like there are several conundrums needing attention. Seeing how Naivara and Blurb have set off for the Alderleaf farm, I was thinking perhaps we might investigate the surrounds of the manor. I agree with your summation of the poorly concealed tracks, however despite of the suggestion they are residing there, I doubt they were made by Redbrands. I get the impression they wouldn't be attempting to conceal their traffic at all. Sildar's request that we find his friend only adds more weight to this line of investigation. What do you think?
LSA replies: "I found a note I believe is from Naivara. She asks us to wait for her return. I believe that will be soon - judging by the light.
She wishes to be with us when we search for the Redbrands. Perhaps she is concerned they have Gundren Rockseeker and a mis-move on our part may harm him.
While we wait I think we should see if Sildar is still in the inn. He might have more information to help us. If he's still here, perhaps he will break his fast with us. Perhaps we should also retrieve Asmodean from his guard at the door. He might contribute to the conversation or even sing us a song!
Will you join me in looking for Sildar and retrieving Asmodean from his watch?"
You are well into your breakfast when Sildar arrives. After an exchange of pleasantries - after all, you only made acquaintances the evening before, Sildar returns to the conversation from the previous night.
"I am hoping you've had time to consider my request? Finding Iarno's whereabouts... or cause of his demise... is important. Not just to me personally, but also to the stability of Phandalin. Should you make this a priority, I would be deeply thankful."
You nod your agreement, explaining that last night's group should be back together soon, at which point you'd be able to make that decision. You ask Sildar about his other considerations - the ones he mentioned previously.
"Iarno is my first consideration, but there are other threats and concerns to Phandalin's security. I'm sure you've heard talk already of the orc raiders? Harbin was supposed to deal with this issue and did so in his usual manner..." Sildar slides a paper notice across the table to you. It reads:
'REWARD - Orcs near Wyvern Tor! Those of a mind to face the orc menace should inquire within'
"I'm sure you can guess how many have made those inquiries? For now they pose only a peripheral threat. But that could change at any time. More pressing is goblin threat I recently... experienced. For this settlement to become a town, or even a city, we need Wave Echo Cave open and functional. I cannot see that happening so long as Cragmaw Castle is still occupied. Dealing with that problem will us to bring back prosperity to Phandalin and help civilize the town or else we'll be continuously harangued by goblin filth and others of their kind."
(OOC - You did use acrobatics to avoid being completely prone. I adjusted that after you tried for other rolls. As for perception... possibly. I took advantage of my own storytelling to see you intensely studying the road, so missing the oncoming traffic. I'd admit to ad-libbing a little here by not following the script :)
Virran doesn't miss a beat and is right behind the flash of red, keeping pace and even gaining on him a little. The path begins to slope upwards and snakes briefly through a couple of steep embankments - the visibility here is dangerously easy, with no vegetation or cover after the road passes the last embankment. Virran ducks against the side of the embankment as the human whips around, searching for him. He studies the roadway back to town carefully, yet finds nothing - Virran is concealed in the shadows where the rising sun has not yet reached.
The human walks backwards, then darts behind a wall and is gone.
You are surprising well hidden in limited cover as you survey the ruins of Tresendar Manor. From your vantage point, it is completely deserted. Had you not seen the figure lead you here, you'd think nothing of it.
Naivara strides into the inn a few paces ahead of Brandywise.
“Good morning all! Thank you for waiting for us. Good morning, Sildar! Good to see you looking well.
“We were held up a little by a thieving Redbrand, who was seen dashing from the farm a mere moment before we arrived. This has certainly shown that those Redbrands are relentless. Imagine living each day under their umbrella of intimidation and fear, as Qelline and the rest of the town do. I believe they are certainly a priority. We must take care of them.”
Naivara takes a moment to take a large helping of breakfast. She has certainly worked up the appetite.
“We received a solid lead to some further information on the location of Cragmore Castle.” Naivara places the map on the table.
“This map should lead us to Thunder tree, where we can find the Druid Reidoth. He should be able to direct us to the castle.
”I would set out immediately were it not for the Redbrand problem.
”What say you all? What do each of you know about the Redbrands? What is your wish in dealing with them? I believe we should stand together in this. The more we have the stronger we will stand. We should fill our bellies, check our stock. Perhaps we should go back to Barthen’s and Aquire some potions? I do have healing ability, however, I am but one elf. We each need to be at our best.
”......Where on earth is Virran? Has anyone seen him this morning?”
OOC @finniusVon ah that makes sense. I was fine with it just curious. Also so I dont have to go back through the posts do I know what the deal with the manor was?
Virran does a quick search for hidden doors and traps
Investigation 26
Virran then heads back to the inn to speak with the rest of the group about what he observed at both the sleeping giant as well as the manor.
"The sleeping giant seems easy enough to get into if we wanted to take a fight to the redbrands but they also have something going on at the manor ruin. Not sure exactly what they are doing up there however"
Trying to look helpful, BrWBrB chimes in "50 miles the halfling said. To Thundertree town. She didn't think too much of it. As a town that is."
Struggling with this torrent of information, now including Virran's, BrWBrB tries to sound confident. "For me, I say we deal with these Redbrands first. So's this e're town's not always bein' a'messed with." He shakes his head. "But where to slaughter the dirty vegans? Sleepy Giant or Ruined Manor? I'll let wiser ones think on that conundrum. Just lead me to them". (Persuasion check: 20)
[OOC: on fire tonight. Not sure if its for crap or for worthy stuff. Haha.]
As you explore the manor ruins, you confirm it is deserted but note plenty of tracks leading to a stone staircase just off to the empty shell of the former kitchen.
"I believe the fate of the local townsfolk and farmers is most pressing. These Redbrands are obviously up to no good and people shouldn't live in fear. The fact this course of action may also reveal the fate of Sildar's associate Iarno would be a welcome bonus."
Upon filling her belly and realising she has two potions retrieved from Cragmaw Caves hidden deep in her backpack, Naivara feels ready to take on the fight. She moves these to her pocket. She re-draws the map in the back of her prayer book and places this in her room inside her bedroll. She heads back downstairs and gives the other copy to the innkeeper’s wife, for safe keeping.
She feels in her gut that this is going to be a very big day.
“Let us make a move. It sounds like it is the manor is where they are hiding. Let’s hit there. We are six strong if Asmodean awakens from his trance. We are in this together. Are your weapons and spells prepared?”
An agreement struck, the party heads for the inn doors and out into the street. The morning light shines more brightly now.
In hindsight, Naivara's words were more premonition than worry: as you head back into the street, you see four armed Redbrands waiting for you. All of them are humans wearing the expected red, grimy cloaks, their hands on their weapons as they watch you come out.
One of the ruffians spits on the ground. “It’s time for you to move on, strangers. Give us your stuff, and be on your way.”
OK, everyone make an Initiative Roll. Once everyone has rolled, we’ll work out the fighting order. If timely rolls aren'’t made, FinniusVon aka DM will make passive moves on your behalf or simply remove you from supporting your party.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
BrWBrB Initiative: 20. Athleticism Roll - for dealing with these filthy vegans once we get into them [OOC is it +5 per the sheet or +7 per my reading of my attributes - low until DM approves high] 16.
His longsword ever-ready in his dominant hand, BrWBrB hefts one of his handaxes into his other hand and lunges at the 2nd nearest Redbrand yelling "Vegans diiiiiiieee", pretty, much like the avatar (who it appears is left-handed - so be it).
[OOC: 'bit slow off the mark, but a dynamo once he's wound up. Hahaha. Die you Vegans.]

LSA looks for Sildar in the public inn rooms (or room as the case may be).
"As you wish My Lady, what you say makes sense."
Indicating his intent to LSA, Stig heads towards Asmodean's sentry point to see if he'd like to join them.
