"The only trouble I'm looking for is trouble that's looking for me, so I can't say I'm too thrilled about waking up in the wee hours to thump a bear..bird..biard? Aside's, I thought you woods people tried to tame these kind of things not just kill'em." Brandor speak low and grumpily, clearly terse over being awakened 'early'.
You all trail off to the side, along the trees and camping site making your way slowly towards the two creatures. Deftly avoiding the twigs and sticks that would otherwise alert your location, you position yourselves as you like behind them. Now that you are closer you see the serrated beaks with fangs underneath coated with saliva and blood from what is probably a recent kill. Nevertheless, they do not see you but have noticed the camp and are making their way to it, but you all get a round of surprise!

Grum will charge out from the camp towards them, and attack the first Owlbear with his dagger and shortsword.
Mariner's Knife Attack: 15 Damage: 7
Dread Ambusher extra attack: 15 Damage: 10
Bonus Attack (Shortsword): 14 Damage: 10
EDIT: I had just assumed they were already close enough for melee, but after posting realised they're probably not within 30ft yet? Let me know, and I'll happily change my actions to reflect the appropriate range.
<Squlech> raises his hands as he mutters strange words in several languages. His eyes grow dark as he finishes the gestures with a broad slashing motion. A black scythe appears and swipes at the same owlbear targeted by Grum. He then claps his hands together and the darkness flashes around his hands. He finishes by readying his shield.
Bonus action: casting spiritual weapon. Attack: 18 Damage: 7 force damage. Action: casting toll the dead. Same owlbear makes a WIS save DC: 14 or takes 7 necrotic damage. Free item interaction: draw shield.
Garr allows his blood to surge, the faintest amount of visible skin at his wrist turning into a faint snowy glow as he channels this energy into his weapon. (Bonus action: Rite of the Dawn, takes -2 to max hp and 2 damage)

Since we're waiting for Callie and she's currently being piloted as an NPC, I think her general tactic has been to hold back slightly and use her shortbow, so I hope no-one minds if I make rolls for her? Targeting the injured owl bear, therefore getting sneak attack damage.
"Well now ye've all done it..." The dwarf grumbles as he leaps out of cover, takes a few long strides and pole vaults up into the air bringing down a strike with his quarterstaff. In the started moment of surprise for the Owlbears, Brandor lays in his typical three strike combination.

(Yes, you can sneak right up to them with your roll and get in melee attacks Grum. Also to Garr and everyone else your first attack does have advantage but subsequent attacks do not)
Grum's dagger misses, but he quickly recovers and slashes twice at the first bugbear, carving two gashes into the large creature. As you make your cuts you realize just how thick their hides are, and you can't even see the wounds themselves only the thick red blood permeating the fur of this now angry owlbear.
Roaring, the owlbear alerts the other as a black scythe cuts across the top of the first owlbear before being assaulted by a wave of necrotic energy. (WIS Save: 7) Unfortunately it shrugs off the ringing sound in it's ears and looks back furiously.
Garr's weapon suddenly emits this bright light, shedding light out to 20ft. The owlbears both instinctively lift their paws as this light hits their eyes but it is immediately followed up by a quick shot from your crossbow, the bolt soaring through the light like a bird across the morning sun. It pierces the hide of the monstrous creature and causes it to shriek out into the night.
Brandor jumps in, unleashing his combo of skilled monk attacks, casting shadows that display his expertise in the martial arts. The owlbear catches your first attack, but you spin your staff around and give it a good Whack! As it stumbles back you take the opportunity to Ponk it right in the beak as it looks back at you in beastly anger.
Callie deftly fires her shot from the shadows behind a tree, landing a shot that lodges an arrow into the fur of the beast.

(Ah, that makes sense. I'll take Grum's turn while we're waiting for Malth to roll the fire damage then.)
Grum grins to himself as he sees the owlbear take all of the damage from the party. Spurred on by their strikes, he continues his bladed assault on the first owlbear.
(well, I assume global pandemic has caused a delay of game. I am unofficially declaring this game on hold, instead of dead. If you haven't posted in a while and would normally think "well it's too late now" just be aware that it isn't too late. Post when you can ad maybe it it will pick back up when everyone is stuck at home quarantined.)
