That was interesting. Al-Ashari went outside as well to make sure her eyes did not deceive her. Servant was ordered to make a few steps farther from the library.
Merric quells the desire to turn around, feeling the disaster in the motion. He does let the Wicked Blade appear in his hand, while he tries to use his blindsense to...gauge...the presence.

Without turning, he says, "This book appears interesting. Who's behind me?"
You sense there is something behind you, and the hand remains on your shoulder.
The book is...
The Hundred Falls
This book describes the story of the inventor who came up with the Storm Drains, the massive funnels that drain water from Elysium and send it down to the Undercity.
A character with this book and proficiency in Survival can find a safe Storm Drain through which to travel to the Undercity.
Al-Ashari returned - she was not going to steal the books from here, they came for the map. But that was interesting, so, something can be taken out.
"There is no one behind you, Merric. What makes you say there is?" (Of course, if she sees something - she would say what is it behind now-tiefling instead)
"Oh, lass, nothing much," Merric replies, still without turning around. "I'm just feelin' a hand on me shoulder, is all. The usual, you might be sayin', fer this place." After giving that a moment to sink in, he goes on. "Does anyone here be a survivalist? This book I be holdin', it be called The Hundred Fall and I'm thinkin' fer a survivalist it could lead the way through some storm drains to the Undercity."

Kale, you spot a small rat sitting on a bookshelf, the rat nods to you and points directly at you. It stays like that for a long moment, then scurries away. It looks very much like the rat who did that to you previously.
Whitegaze starts randomly pulling books off of the shelves and glancing at them before putting them back, walking along the shelves to see if there's any sort of pattern to the arrangement.

You see no organization at all, it is a random assortment and nothing has been organized to any extent.
As Whitegaze roughly pulls out book after book and then shoves it back a large form flies over the bookshelves and hovers above you.
"Be careful with my books." The beholder says with a frown down at you all. It swivels some eyes to Al-Ashari. "Also please have your minion return my book or I will be forced to send out some of my assistants to recover it..."
Whitegaze reflexively reaches for his flail, but doesn’t draw it, “So I guess that means you’re the librarian then? My friends have a couple questions for you.”

"Librarian?" The beholder says, looking angry. "I am no mere librarian! I am the Chief Librarian..." He glares down at you.
The book was returned, of course (Al-Ashari meant to do it on return but got distracted by Merric's encounter). "Apology," continued she calmly, "we were told you have maps here. Would it be possible to see the map of The Stairs?"
The beholder glares at whitegaze a moment longer, then turns his eyes to Al-Ashari. "Do I look like an assistant to you? Find one of them if you want help finding something, I do not do such tasks..." It then swoops away, moving off over the tops of the shelves.
Al-Ashari was so far from anyone who could be defined as "survivalist" that did not take the question as addressed to her. She, instead, took a deep breath, counted to ten, and incredibly patiently addressed the beholder telepathically now: "Would you be so kind to direct us to an assistant? They do not seemed to bother to greet visitors and non of us knows who are we searching for, how they would even look."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kale looks up, and then wishes for a moment that he hadn't. The sight of so many eyes swiveling about makes him a little dizzy. "Aeh... well, of course we wouldn't think to treat the Chief Librarian as some mere assistant! I was thinking more that you might be able to give us a tour of the library, and a brief history of Elysium, and how the city became the... aeh... wonder that it is today. We're particularly interested in this 'Dungeon of the Gods' rumored to be located in the city. Librarians amass knowledge, and chief librarians more than most!" Kale adds ingratiatingly. "Us mere mortals would be honored to have even a moment of your most worthy time, my good sir!"

You see nothing there.
Lia walks over and moves into the spot behind Merric, waving her hand through the area. "Nothing is there." She tells Merric.
The feeling of a hand stays on Merric's shoulder for a long few more moments, then gives him a squeeze before moving away.

OOC: DD, do I think this was a friendly squeeze, a friendly encounter? From the sense of it, perhaps, the...well whatever?

"Can you ask that hand to point you to the maps section?" Al-Ashari was trying to stay focused.

You think you barely survived that and don't know why. It was very much not friendly, the squeeze a more 'I'll get you next time' than anything else.
