Merric growled as the thing re-appeared, the Nightwalker. Whipping out the Wicked Blade and his Gem of Brightness, he raised the gem and whispered the second command word. A brilliant beam of light stabbed at the creature, attempting to blind it.
Con save DC 15 or blinded for 1 minute
After, he put the gem away, drawing his rapier and stealthily moved to a flanking position, to setup his next attack.

The night walker uses Enervating Focus against Whitegaze.
Enervating Focus. Melee Weapon Attack: 25 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 24 necrotic damage. The target must succeed on a DC 21 Constitution saving throw or its hit point maximum is reduced by an amount equal to the necrotic damage taken. This reduction lasts until the target finishes a long rest.
It then uses finger of doom on Lia.
Finger of Doom (Recharge 6). The nightwalker points at one creature it can see within 300 feet of it. The target must succeed on a DC 21 Wisdom saving throw or take 16 necrotic damage and become frightened until the end of the nightwalker’s next turn. While frightened in this way, the creature is also paralyzed. If a target’s saving throw is successful, the target is immune to the nightwalker’s Finger of Doom for the next 24 hours.

One thing was really good bout this place (the city, not the library specifically) - it allowed so many experiments, unavailable in the normal circumstances! Al-Ashari never had a chance to test that spell before, for example: Abolition(save Wis 18) for 18 force damage

Abolition

Level5th
Damage Customize
Casting Time: 1 action
Range/Area: 60ft.
Components: V, S
Duration: Concentration, up to 3 rounds
Attack/Save: WIS 18
Version: 2
The caster channels devastating energy at a single target and the air between the caster and target, and 5’ around both, whips about as though in a howling gale. This space becomes difficult terrain for any creature, regardless of abilities that might say otherwise.
On a failed wisdom save, the target is restrained (movement becomes 0 for the duration of the spell) and subject to waves of increasing force energy that rip it apart, rending flesh, vaporising fluids and disintegrating bone or matter. The first wave inflicts 6d6 hitpoints of damage (force) the moment the saving throw is failed. The spell persists for as long as the caster maintains concentration and spends their action each turn on maintaining the spell, up to a maximum of 3 rounds. For each round the spell is in effect, the caster cannot move more than ½ of its movement. On the caster’s second turn, the target takes 7d6 force damage (no save) and on the caster’s third turn, the target takes 8d6 force damage (no save) at which point the spell ends.
During the time the target is restrained, cannot move, be moved, or cast a spell that magically moves it (e.g. Misty Step). If the target’s hitpoints are reduced to 0 by this spell, it is killed instantly, reduced to dust, and the spell ends.
Once the spell is in effect, the caster does not need to be able to verbalise or see the target, although any total cover placed between the caster and target will end the spell. A successful Dispel Magic can end this spell, as does Mordenkainen’s Disjunction.
The target takes no damage if succeeding on the initial save and the spell ends.
((I don't know - three rounds with the possibility of full save ... But when I chose it, I did not know it was a homebrew, just picked from the list. If the fight proves that spell to be too powerful - happy to replace it with something official))
Kale's eyebrow twitches as the enormous creature appears before them again. "Eh," he says. "That thing is getting rather bothersome, isn't it?"
(Is there a way Kale can aim Synaptic Static (20' radius AOE) so that it misses Merric and Whitegaze? He'll attack with that if it's the case. If not, he's going to use a different spell.)

Synaptic Static: 36 or half on DC 18 Int save
After a failed save, a target has muddled thoughts for 1 minute. During that time, it rolls a d6 and subtracts the number rolled from all its attack rolls and ability checks, as well as its Constitution saving throws to maintain concentration. The target can make an Intelligence saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Al-Ashari finds a book that she learns the below from...
There was once an old set of rules for keeping safe from spiders. It has been lost.
She realizes this is probably the children's book she has.
Lia finds a strange book. She learns from it...
There’s something nasty in the woodshed
Both Lia and Al-Ashari need to give me a DC 17 Cha save.
Lia save: 10
After finding these books a shadow appears, moving towards you, you all recognize it as the nightwalker returning.
Lia immediately casts bigby's hand She sends it to strike at the nightwalker.
Attack: 23 Damage: 14
Merric and Whitegaze can do their actions now.
(btw, what‘s the random book Kale grabbed?)

ooc: are we doing homebrew? That's sweet! Though it seems a bit powerful for a 5th level spell.

No, it is more like a breath weapon I assume as far as mechanics go anyway.
