The gourd-shaped small continent (or very large island) of "New Elbian" as the humans call it, has been colonised over a thousand years ago. Civilised races, led by human explorers have slowly settled the coast of the lower (larger) part of the "gourd", before expanding inland. The local wild lands were tamed and a multitude of evil creatures was cleansed from the land. Savage tribes of orcs, goblins and other monsters were subjugated. Some of these savages even learned the civilised ways and were allowed to settle in the allocated city districts. As of today only the smaller northern half of the continent, past the Rockgrinder mountain pass is still untamed wild land. Necromancers, demons and all manner of evilry are rumored to dwell there, and few adventurers parties return from there alive...
So goes the story from the human point of view. For you, the story is somewhat different...
Looking to start a monster race campaign (6 players). Starting at level 1, the campaign should not be too difficult to start with, and can develop quite well into higher levels if it stays active. Your character received a message (telepathic, dream, or magical, take your pick) to go to an area of the forest on the edge of the monster territory. The message promises great bounty in exchange for "some help".
Characters:
1st level
Milestone EXP
Monster-type races (half-orcs, tieflings Dragonborn etc. are fine), mainly from PHB, Volo's.
Misfits: you roll the stats, then take your stats roll in the order they are rolled. You can reroll the whole statline if you don't have at least 2 stats at 14+ (before any modifiers).
Alignment: not Lawful Good, not Lawful Neutral, not Chaotic Evil. Chaotic good can be a thing, but you need to think well of you character motivations. Also, remember, chaotic does not mean "insane".
Backgound: some information where you character is from, and why he is choosing to follow the message.
Players:
Post once per day. If you go on holiday with no internet, warn us about it. Nothing is worse for a PbP than waiting for someone who has suddenly gone inactive in the middle of a fight scene. If there is a holdup in this situation, I will act for the player to avoid stalling the game.
You may be a monster race, but you should be an intelligent creature. So if you decide to charge a bunch of armored knights head on, don't be suprised at the consequences. Don't be Stupid Evil.
Be respectful to other players. In-character your monster may be unfriendly to another monster, but players should be friendly to other players. After all we are here to have a good time and play together.
Background: Serit was a common bugbear in his gang. He lazed about, ran from responsibility and used savage over aggression when needed. It wasn't until a doomed raid that his life took a turn, he felt the grip of Skiggaret. Serit, ran as his gang faced utter defeat and it wasn't until the morning that he came to his senses and realized what happened.
It was in that shame and fear that he spoke aloud to Skiggaret and spoke words of bonding so that he would serve the diety of fear and hope that he himself would never feel it again. The pact was made and the power infused the bugbear.
4d6 drop the lowest. I am not very familiar with much of the UA content, so I would rather avoid it. If you need UA, I can look at the character pitch.
(Going to try a reroll here, just in case the scores are something I want to do instead...)
Ability scores: 121212101217
(And once more, due to not having 2 scores above 14...)
Ability scores: 71412161615
Name: Nasaar
Race: Hobgoblin
Class: Artificer
Background: Shipwright
Alignment: LE
Backstory:
Nasaar worked in a ship yard at a local port for some years, gaining some knowledge of how to build and repair ships. It was a job for him, and one he did very well. He was often overlooked for advancement, due to his race, and, eventually, decided he had had enough. He left and fell in with some bandits, who quickly learned his worth. After some time with them though, their base was attacked by guards, though Nasaar was away at the time. he managed to evade the guards, and found himself on his own once more. It was at this point he received the message and decided to see what was being offered by the strange entity that sent it.
Considering the 4 of the 6 of the stats are really bad rolls, I am OK if you want reroll this. Though I am happy if you want to play this way too. This could set up for a very interesting minmax rogue...
Reroll 2 (I’m that unlucky) Ability scores: 141717161212
Name: Gathrik
Race: Goblin
Class: Wizard, if you are ok with me picking bladesinger later, or rogue/fighter
Background: Gathrik was a young hunter in the goblin settlement, and was going about his usual business hunting and gathering. His life seemed boring and routine consumed every day without any joy left in hunting beasts. That is until the humans came. The hunt became incredible, more joyous then ever before. Gathrik actually had to think during the hunt, predict, and the satisfaction of the kill was just too much to let go of. And then he heard a weird voice in his head and decided that if he is already hunting the humans there, collecting some payment for it would be nice. And so henegan his way on becoming a professional.
Alignment: Neutral Evil
So, i can’t really promise posting every day, but I sure will try. I just thought that it would be better to warn you before hand.

I thought bladesingers are elves/half-elves? If I am wrong and goblins can normally pick bladesigner, you can pick it.
As for posting, you don't need to write out long long text every day. On some days, you may simply need to write a sentence or just give an action/roll. As long as you are not disappearing without notice, and are around to keep pace with the plot, it works. If need be, I will do simple things, like rolling initiative to keep the game's pace.
This seems interesting. I will base my character off of the stats and hope I don't roll bad...
Ability scores: 161711131613
Name: Yarvem
Race: (If Allowed) Minotaur
Class: Monk
Alignment: Neutral as he mostly thinks of how to please himself for the part
Backstory: Yarvem was one of his people that had been the few to attempt assimilation into the civilized lands of the humans. Like many of his kind fro. A young ave, he was filled with a great amount of beastial rage mixed with his more cunning brain. In order to combat this many minotaurs were sent to a monastery that had been set up on outskirts of the civilized lands.
At the monastery the monks began to teach Yarvem and the other minotaur children to meditate and focus their anger into disiplined martial training. While some took to the training, others did not with Yarvem included. Wanting to be free he and a few others escaped the monastery, using there newly trained techniques to make their way.
As they traveled, Yarvem found his way to an underground fighting ring, watching a few fights before he began to participate himself. In the course of a year he made a name for himself and became somewhat of a champion. It seemed that once he had become will known he began to have strange dreams that showed him a place he had never seen before. Upon waking up he knew the way to get there without the need of a map. Having never really felt as though he belonged in the civilized lands outside of a fighting or a bar he set out.
I am on my phone right now. Building character is easier on a desktop.
I will try to get it in later today. Thinking about doing a minotaur too though, probably great weapon master given the stats. Darth, you interested in doing a combined background? Maybe I am a friendly rival from the fighting pits...or someone you knew from your childhood before the monastery?

No problem. OK, it seems we have all the players confirmed, so this thread is closing. We will move to the OOC chat and will later open the main RP thread.
I will reopen this thread if we need more player or if I start running a second parallel campaign.
I have the character made and ready. Assume equipment is just starting gear, but would like to see if I can swap out the 2 light crossbows for a heavy crossbow by any chance... I would think it would be reasonable, since the character is a hobgoblin who is proficient in longbows and heavy crossbows, and he has the carpenter crafting, which means he could probably make the heavy crossbow himself... If not, that is 100% fine, but figured worth asking.
I'm reopening this thread as we need 2 more players to refill the ranks of the party. Rules are still the same as the opening post with only one change: starting Level 2.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Name: Moxo
Race: Kobold
Class: Fighter (Arcane Archer)
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Background: Moxo was just your average Kobold going about his life digging tunnels for the pack's lair and tending the eggs. That is until the humans came. The trampled, they slaughters, they destroyed everything they could reach and burnt out everything they couldn't. Only Moxo survived, having fled and collapsed a tunnel behind him. He had effectively buried himself alive, it's a miracle he survived long enough to burrow himself out. Moxo wandered and scavenged and did his best to survive in the days, months, years? afterward, always hoping to some day find a new pack to join but never quite having been brave enough to trust any other creature enough to form any kind of alliance... It was the solo, hermit life for Moxo until.... ?

That would be better, since Warforged aren't the "monstery" monsters, but rather constructs.
Sounds good. Will change it to Hobgoblin then.

We're doing one small murder-y thing for a bigger, better reason. The ends justify the means.
