I'm closing this thread for recruitment for now since I've got 10 applicants.
Hi Y'all,
I'm running a dynamic sandbox campaign that adapts to everyone's choices within a set environment. We have lost a couple of players and I think we're going to need to get some additional characters involved to lessen the chances of TPKs and freshen the bouquet so that there are new minds involved and more options for everyone.
This is a developing project that is only going to work with in-depth player interaction and driven player choices to explore, discuss and interact with the other characters and the environment. I'm looking for people who want to poke and prod and try anything they can think of so I can bend my outline around it. New characters will have the chance to create their backstory and may be provided with some story details the main thread is not yet aware of so that they feel like part of the dynamic world that the story will be running into. I prefer that people role play in an in-depth fashion whenever possible, as it enables me to cater to your character's personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc. If I write a page of descriptive text and NPC activity and no one bites the hook and actually attempts to immerse themselves... that's just not going to work in the long term.
This campaign has evolved from an idea another member had regarding demon possession, starting off really rough and rocky and abandoned pretty quickly in lieu of moving towards the sandbox campaign play style. I've moved through that initial idea and towards something new with more possibilities. We are at the doorway(s) of that new adventure and I would like to have some fresh faces make their entrances.
I have many different quests and angles of response to your choices in mind and look forward to being challenged to create content. I feel like what is in the thread so far is at least 60% not what I want this all to look like as far as flexibility and flow. That is going to change and continue to evolve, but its absolutely essential that my players are involved in that process. It's not a sandbox if you don't play in it.
Feel free to read the thread here ( https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/play-by-post/48186-bane-of-kerakys-siu-pbp?page=21#c414 ), or just PM me if you'd rather discuss how things are going to be moving forward and how your character will fit in. If you read the thread, you'll see that the campaign took a very obvious hard departure from the extremely experimental mechanics I was attempting to develop in order for a player to control creatures. I found it to be cumbersome and not at all fun for the player or myself, so I decided to drastically move away in order to work with my personal ideas. We are going somewhere more fun with this, I promise you!
Hit me up if you're interested for more details and to discuss constraints and possibilities. I will have more information to offer once I see what kind of response I'm working with here. No matter what character you create, please keep in mind that this will be a role play heavy campaign, but with plenty of combat. Be prepared to role play your character's attributes and utilize your backstory to the fullest - also, keep an open mind and try anything you think your character might be capable of! Right off the bat I'll say I'm really not interested in hosting any chaotic evil characters at this time.
I'd be interested in joining this campaign. I love the idea that it's dynamic and the players will help guide the story. This would be my first play by post. I've been playing D&D for just under a year now.
I play in a couple of Roll20 campaigns at the moment and there are many times when I think darn, that would have been a good RPing moment, but by the time I think of it the moment in game has passed. Play by post could be great for that. Here is a character concept I'd be interested in playing:
Character Name - Serenya Bayliss Race - Human Starting class - Cleric (Trickery domain) Alignment - Chaotic Good Background - Noble
Short Summary of Backstory - Serenya is the oldest daughter of a powerful noble family. She had accepted that her role in life was to be married off to secure alliances for her family. That all changed when she was kidnapped by a rival family. Although rescued relatively quickly and unharmed, this incident reduced her usefulness to her family to nothing and she was packed off to the nearest convent.
This experience left her feeling bitter and vulnerable and so she turned to the Traveler for tricks to protect herself, becoming a cleric of the Trickery domain. She also has a tendency to flirt in social encounters, almost as a reaction to her strict upbringing.
You had me with dynamic sandbox environment. I’m decently experienced at PbPs, and irl campaigns.
Character Name: Felix Montgomery
Race- Vuman
Class (I intend on mono classing, as Felix is only 9, and not really suited to the front lines.)- Divine Soul Sorcerer.
Alignment- Lawful Good
Background -Noble
Backstory- Felix Montgomery is the son of Annabelle Montgomery, daughter of Arcturus Montgomery, and Bhaal, the god of murder. No one knows why Felix was born, except Bhaal. The only way the god acknowledged Felix was an incorporeal spirit to watch over the boy. When Felix’s family was killed by bandits, the spirit struck down the invaders, causing the incident to be called the Montgomery Manor Massacre. Felix set out from his family home, hoping to find his father.
Being a nine year old boy with a sheltered up bringing, Felix is rather outgoing with people he thinks seems friendly, but shy around people he thinks are scary. He also asks a lot of questions.
If the DM goes with our character concepts, I can definitely see Serenya wanting to take Felix under her wing. Both human, both noble, both cut off from their families :)

Plus Felix and Serenya both have ties to the gods. But Felix might not react well to someone he thinks is trying to mother hen him.
I'm closing this thread for recruitment for now since I've got 10 applicants. Feel free to discuss among yourselves as potential recruits and share whatever you want here, including ideas and options. All 10 of you should have extensive PMS with details.
I anyone is thinking even further outside the box than the 2 options I've presented, please let me know. I'm planning on selecting 2 of you at the moment, but anyone who really shines and has other ideas will certainly be considered. You will all be carefully considered though, don't doubt.
It’s not letting me reply in the PM, so I’ll do it here. The 1st idea was interesting, but I have a question. Is the pyromancer from the Kaladesh an accepted UA sorcerer subclass? If it is, I have a different character idea

Hi, if it's something you can select in your character sheet here on D&DB, then go ahead and use it. In general, it's going to be way easier for me to track characters if they can fall into a character sheet effectively. That said, I'm willing to bend for more interesting classes. I'm not sure if Pyromancer is something that is "accepted". Go ahead and make a character concept and we'll see how we can work things in. I don't see any PMs from you, so I'll send you a thread and see if we can talk there.
