The group concludes their adventures around the orc camp and decide to head back to the city of Odaigo. They go the way they came, passing the other small orc camp on their way. After about 3 hours, they make it back to Odaigo. It is now about 5 o'clock and there are still guards from the morning. They give you all a look of disbelief as they look at Grush with you. The group heads back to tent where they met Melcher that morning. Opening the tent, they find he is in there, and he seems to be gathering things up from around the room. The rest of the group goes but Ulala is tapped on the shoulder before she goes in.
It is Darin.... he asks "Hey!" taking a look at her clothes that are clearly muddied and bloodied from a day of heavy battle "Looks like you had a tough battle today. Did my crossbow hold out alright? I have been worried about you all day today, thinking that maybe I didn't replace the string on it and it was going to break on you and then fail you in battle.."
Melcher looks up at Grush and the rest of the group and says "Ah, well I'll be an ogre's uncle... Well I suppose you are here to turn this guy in?"
OOC: there was a total of 24 orc heads with you as well.
with a pile of severed heads in his arms, gorlok walks up to knight melcher interrupting him mid sentence.
”Aye if it isnt knight melcher! Suppose your tha lad payin fer tha heads! weh got quite tha collection, while ya fancy lords an knights kept wotch ova tha wards...
taking in his surroundings gorlok absentmindedly drops the pile of severed heads at melchers feet
“...gud thing to, this camp meh hav been sacked without chas! HaHaHa!”
"Yes, we are here to turn in Grush and I would like to speak with the Baron on his cooperation. It was a long hard battle but afterwards Grush has been nothing but honorable and has come in to seek peace."
Graxxy motions of the Orc heads and his Javelin full of Orc heads.
"As you can see, vengeance was dealt swiftly and effectively."
Graxxy motions to Grush.
"After the battle we found Grush lying ill of disease. Only by the Glory of my God Tempus were we able to heal him. These Orc sightings were not raids at all but a simple seeking of medicine to cure Grush. No more bloods needs to be shed. Grush believes this as well." says Graxxy.
Looking at Gorlok, Melcher says "Calm down let me see here.. 1..2.." he counts all the heads "Alright so I have 24 heads and this must be Grush." He slowly walks up to him, takes his finger and pokes him in the chest. Grush lets out a curious gasp of air while Melcher continues saying "Alive it would seem so that is 500 gold." Melcher pulls out a scroll and walks over to the a small desk in the tent and begins writing it down. He points to the adventures and says "Alright take these." He starts handing out coins labeled EG1, EG2, EG3, EG4, and EG5. These can be redeemed in one week from now when the Baron brings his treasurer down for the Autumn Odaigo Harvest Festival. Currently each one of you have.." Melcher glances down at the scroll before looking back up and finishing "148 gold pieces each. If you bring any more orc heads before next week, I will add it to your balance."
About that time two guards come in and grab Grush. "Melcher, we will be taking him away now." Melcher nods in agreement.
Graxxy then mentions about wanting to talk to the Baron. Melcher responds "The Baron does not have time to meet, but if you wish you could look into things yourselves. You seem a capable bunch. I can give you the details of the farmers that reported the attacks if you would like to follow-up. Now, take Grush away.."
DM Notes: Moving forward, feel free to currently RP but I just wanted to give some options that are out there and make it easy for people to read just in case someone missed something.
At this point in the campaign there are a couple of options. In order to redeem your gold, you must find the Baron's treasurer next week (7 days from now) and turn in your token. During this time, there are a couple of options and open story points if you wish to pursue.
1. If the orcs came for medicine why did the farmers say they were attacking and pillaging? (Investigate the claims of Grush)
2. Grush's disease came from the Underdark, but he has not recollection of going into there. He did mention that there is a cave that was north of his camp that could potentially be the source, but they have never gone too deep into it. (Investigate the cave)
3. Grush has imparted a demon's tail to the party, but how it ended up in the mortal realm for so long and the details of this demon are unknown. There are witches in the Forbidden Bog to the west of the forest that could give details on this demon, if they are friendly... (Explore the Forbidden Bog)
4. There may still be orcs in the woods where you can easily kill them and add more gold to your inventory. (Explore the Western Woods)
5. You can rest in the town of Odaigo for a week and recover from your hard battle. (Rest for a week)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Upon hearing about the questionable maintenance on Darin’s crossbow, Ulala begins to rage internally. However, she quickly hides this emotion with signs of tears. “Oh, Darin, I was so scared!” *cry cry* “I don’t know what I would have done without this bow!” she says, gazing towards the ground with her hands on her face.
Darin doesn't even pause to question Ulala. "I know. I have been dreading letting you go without my protection all day. I will never let you out of my sight again!" About that time, two guards head into the tent to grab Grush..
Ulala flinches in reaction to the young man entering her personal space. However, she continues to cover her eyes to appear as if she is sobbing. *cry cry*
Noticing the guards enter the tent, Ulala reaches out to Grush telepathically. “This may be the last time we see you for awhile, if ever, half-orc. Have you truly told us all there is to know about your warriors’ expedition for medicine? Where is the Hoknath that Murzush spoke of? You must understand that my allies and I are finding it increasingly difficult to know who to trust after this turn of events.”
“Aye assume tha baron will so graaciously pay fer our rooms while wehs wait. slaughterd a whole tribe o orcs in hes name afterall...Ooolala and the lot a yous fancy a drink? the barons buyin”
Percy grimaces in disappointment listening from the back of the tent as the events unfold. He accepts his redemption coin as it is offered.
"I had rather hoped for cash on delivery."
Turning to the rest of the group, it seems we have some spare time on our hands. I would certainly be interested in why we have faulty information heading into this scenario, but at the same time, I can't say I'm surprised to hear about corruption in the local peoples and government." Percy motions to Melcher.
"They don't get much better. As such I'd also be interested in the source of the disease the orc acquired or investigating the bog, but I do feel we should probably rest and collect our money before we go on either of those exciting enterprises. And in case I am not being plain fighting along side you all in this venture has been both an honor and a pleasure. I would be happy to proceed in further ventures if you are all so inclined."
Percy pats Graxxy, Gorlok, and Loramir on the shoulders.
" I also feel I should let my parents know I have survived my venture, and plan to continue, so they may not see me for some time."
Percy pats Gotrek on the head and he resounds quietly.
"And I should probably do another once over on this chap. How about we all meet back at the "Irate Weasel" at 8' o ' clock or so to discuss things further?"
Melcher hearing Gorlok's cries comment back "At yes. The baron would gladly host you at his stables outside the western gate. The hay beds are magnificent and the other guests when asked if they wanted different sleeping arrangements always would say 'Nayyy'" Melcher chuckles to himself as the guards nod and take Grush away.
Ulala asks Grush in her link to him and he responds Hoknath, my son, probably fled North with the children. I'm sure Murzush has met up with them by now. They will probably be hiding around the ceremonial cave. That way they have a place to hide if the time comes. If you wish to ask him more about his journey, find him there."
Ulala catches the attention of the escort and he understands the situation. He turns to Darin dnd yells "SOLIDER WHY ARE YOU NOT AT YOUR POST?" Darin begins yup mumble a reply before wising up, bowing his head and leaving the adventurers. The group then conclude business and head into Odaigo, to the East Gate quarters to the tavern named the Irate Weasel...
Percy chats up the bartender, a former client of his, after arriving at the Irate Weasel and waiting for the others to arrive.
"Not a better bar in town I swear, I hope the apparatus for your barrels I fixed is still working properly. That was a much easier fix than the orc "Raids".
At this word Percy motions quotations in the air. " Apparently there was something a little fishy going on with all that, but what is one more corrupt official in town giving faulty information, and the battle, oh the battle!"
Percy regales him with the tale of the raid elaborating where appropriate of course as he waits for his companions. He speaks loud and freely trying to get an audience in order to pitch one of his products.
Ulala slams the doors open to the Irate Weasel tavern, brimming with confidence. “Now this is my territory!” she says, winking to her comrades. “Can a girl get some beers for her hard working boys?” she shouts, eyeing the bartender. Taking one of the large tables at the center of the bar, she strikes a wooden cup to the surface. Upon lifting it, she reveals a pair of dice. “So...who’s interested in a game of DoubleDiceDeluxe??”
Rules of
Double Dice Deluxe: place your bets, roll two individual d6, highest roll wins. rolling doubles trumps high rolls. highest set of doubles win if multiple doubles are cast. snake eyes beat everything.
Graxxy instead of downing ale drinks soley water while watching Ulala and Gorlok gamble. A look of concern on his face. He turns to Percy and says loud enough to where anyone in the group can respond to him.
"Something just isn't right... Somewhere along the way someone has lied to us. I need to know who and why they are leading us astray. We need to get Grush back to his people. We need half a human brain to keep those beasts in check." says Graxxy.
gorlok shakes the dice vigorously in a cupped hand and whispers into it sweetly for luck before casting them onto the table.
”o gods beh damned! aye cant ghet a break”
he takes a giant gulp from his tankard before responding to graxxy.
“Its not out o character for orcs to pillage and raid tha locals, but grush an his people don seem the pillaging type dos they. if it bothas ya so much, weh should go an snoop about. ghet to tha bottoms o it all.”
gorlok takes another swig and casts his dice on the table
”urgh! all ive got to lose here is time an money!”
"I certainly think we could go question the farmers and find out if their story matches up. Ask them what members of government they reported it to or helped them. We could probably track it up and figure who seems to be lying. At the same time, Grush and that female were not there for the encounter. It is possible his son told Grush a lie in order to avoid consequences, but judging from what is happening to them I find that unlikely. I also worry how high the lie might go, but I do think we could count on the baron to not be in on it at least. If he can be depended upon, for one thing, it is avoiding financial loss. The money they are losing on this militia is no small thing to a man like him, and the whole reason we gave them the forest is it is a bit of a hellhole as far as our uses for it."
Here Percy pauses for breath and a swig of ale.
" I do think a far faster way to track down the culprit might be finding out who is standing to gain from the current situation. See what kind of new people might be taking advantage of the forest opening up, besides the people that have joined the militia.
