Welcome to Talamh. A human dominated continent with low magic where the four sister goddesses of Sune, Mielikki, Chauntea, and Mystra are the focus of worship. Emperor Alerain the first rules alongside a council of seven. The lands are safe here. Free from the chaos and pestilence other continents suffer. Talamhains believe their faith in the Four and guidance from their Emperor has spared them the misfortune until recently Talamh has begun to decline. Talamh has closed her harbors and borders to all outsiders seeking refuge and turned inward. Some say Emperor Alerain, now in his later years, has turned his focus on those generations of foreigners that have made Talamh's lands unsafe. While others point to magic users outside the temples for the divine for their country's decline.
Gather outside a tavern just off the boat after a harrowing experience with the Sunite order vetting everyone that comes through. It was a trying passage. You and your party barely made it into the city as the city guard supported by the army closed the harbor. All other ships carrying refugees were turned away threatened to be fired upon! You left the harbor quickly seeking shelter and a job. None of you have more than a few coppers between you with only the equipment on your back as well as your skills of value.
Landrae looks around and takes in the atmosphere of this new city. The demeanour of the people passing the group by, the state of the building since departing the harbour, and the local businesses that they pass on the main streets.
Breaking the odd silence that has hung over the group since their landing, "So, my fine fellows, we made it to Talamh! I am a little shy of coin, one too many bad hands playing cards, but damn me, I could use a mug of the local swill to wet my palette. Anyone fancy clubbing together and seeing what the quality of the local establishments amounts too?" She jingles her purse as if to emphasise the lack of jingle.
Tucking her meagre purse safely away, since a meagre purse is still better than no purse, she keeps a wary eye out and settles her pack securely on her shoulder.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Brace listens to Landrae while he tries to determine his own needs. "I appreciate your friendship Landrae, we have found our time together useful since meeting on this journey and I think we will benefit by staying together here. This place has changed since last I heard. It has become scared I think. Let us search for a hopefully friendly establishment in which to get news and learn how to earn a few coppers if possible." He also holds up a mostly empty money pouch and shrugs. "If any of you have better ideas I'm willing to listen."perception check 25 As he tries to determine the best establishment in which to find information.
"Tavern it is!" Exclaimed Livly. "One is ought to be by the docks and those are not expensive. Usually. Never been here before, though. Hope a copper can at least buy a sit near fire - food is good but I still can't believe the ground under feet is not shaking anymore. And would give anything for a minute near the real fireplace!"
Halflings are used to live in big communities and usually do not mind crowded space but Livly was traveling for some years now - mostly alone - and months under the deck were tough. "Let's just head toward the city, tavern should be near."
Looking back over his shoulder at the docks, remembering the ships they saw being turned away, Volkher will gesture in towards the city, “I think near the docks might not be the best idea if they’re turning away refugees. One city is much like another and I’m sure there are decent, affordable taverns off the main thoroughfare. On the other hand we’d have better luck finding paying employment in one of the more prominent taverns near the center of town.” As he starts to head into the city proper, he adjusts his pack to make sure his quiver is accessible should the need arise, then check that his rapier and daggers are ready to hand. Trusting the others to watch for trouble, he watches the street signs, if any, and tries to get a feel for the flow of this city’s populace and structure.
"I, for one, welcome you three! I always enjoy company and you lot have been a real boon this long voyage," Keth says in seemingly good spirits. In truth, those who would have really talked to the man, would know it is a bit of a show. He is not happy those on the boats were turned away. He was also treated quite poorly throughout the vetting process when entering the city.
"Volkher," he called, "a finer establishment is all well and good but I am not sure how that will go. Besides, I would imagine our brethren from the previous evacuations may well be more receptive to our bids for adventure."
Like a bull in the proverbial china shop, Ulfgar ping pongs through the group towards the front, as he hears Livly mention a tavern. "Thank the goddess herself we survived that boat ride. Let us quickly find the tavern For a warm fire after that ordeal would indeed be a blessing for all of us." He smiles to the halfling. "Lead the way!"

Livly gave a back a sunny smile and as she suggested went toward the city, as fast as her (still kind of sea) legs allowed, looking for any indication of a tavern.
"While I do agree it feels a lot better to be on solid ground, the smell here is much worse than the open sea. I am looking forward to stretching my legs finally."
Keth quick steps up to Volkher and places a friendly arm over his shoulders, "You alright friend? Did the vetting go as well as it did for me?" He smiles at his longest friend in the group.
As the group starts to move off, Landrae looks back to check if there is anyone following before settling her broad brimmed hat with a lilt to cover her face a little more... old habits die hard as they say. Then she quickly cuts toward the font of the group and sparks up a conversation with the vertically challenged people trying to make their way through a less than accommodating populace.
"Tell me Ulfgar, are dwarves actually as prodigious drinkers as they would have everyone believe? I'd like to think that once we've found a fresh source of funds, we can put the reputation to the test!"
The party can see the Gnawed Knight and it's jobs board posted. It's just in the cusp of the inner city between the city proper and the docks. It's a large imposing building with three stories. Crowds are moving passed and the locals seem to keep a wary eye on the party as they make their way towards the inviting tavern.
Brace
With your keen perception you notice a hooded figure has followed your party from the docks. They're currently lurking in an alley way just out of sight of the Gnawed Knight but they're watching to see where the party goes.
"Travelers you look weary," a cheerful big bellied human man approaches the party. "All coin spends at the Knight. Please go inside and take your rest," he adds smiling with ruddy cheeks gesturing towards the building ahead.
"Ah, good sir that is music to my ears, though we have but few coins to spend. Maybe you would know if they would trade a drink or six for some music to their ears?" Landrae taps her instrument to be certain the happy fellow understands her. Some people don't pick up on not-so-subtle suggestions until you make them far too obvious for it to be fun from her experience.
Ulfgar follows Landrae as she makes her pitch to the fellow. "If your proposition works, then you shall see how prestigious a drinker this dwarf is." He laughs immediately at his own joke. "A prestigious reputation indeed."

"I mean, he did say all coin spends here. What do you say Volkher? Let's wet our whistle and decide our next steps. They even have a job posting board," Keth says even as he steers the human towards the door, giving a 'come on' gesture to Ulfgar.
Livly made a step back (so that human could see her over his belly), waved to attract his attention and smiled. "We will be happy to join your crowd. If they all are as welcoming as you are it should be a marvellous place. You have some spiced wine in there?"
"We could certainly use another minstrel," the older human nods at Landrea. "Yes, yes people are far too ready to accuse in this town for my liking," he then says loudly at the other locals giving him critical looks at speaking with the party. "We have spiced wine there small one and fine...uh cheap ale for those with limited means," he adds with a wink. "No finer welcome to the Jewel of the East than the Knight," he bellows loudly over the other hawkers selling wares. He then gestures towards the tavern. "Tell the barman Saldus sent you," he adds tipping an imaginary cap before turning away from the party to address another good of what now looks like locals and refugees alike.
OCC: Talamh is human dominated but you do see the odd elf, dwarf, and wee folk (halfling and gnome) rushing about. No dark elves or Orcs are moving freely however and although some were on the voyage you don't notice many that made it through the 'harrowing' that the Sunite clergy preformed on all of you to make sure you did not carry plague.

Ulfgar by this point has cozied himself up between Livly and Landrae, trying to listen in on every word the older human speaks. He turns to the others "From what I've gathered, there is spiced wine and cheap ale. And umm..He starts to trail off.. Honestly, I stopped listening at cheap ale.""Great Sune, I really need to work on that." He chuckles to himself

Volkher will go along with Keth, he's learned its easier than fighting him on things like this, in response to his question of the entrance, "I imagine mine was quite a bit easier, after all, I'm human and use no magic, as far as they're concerned I fit right in here," giving a little laugh.
When they arrive at the tavern, he'll listen to the pitch from the man at the door, then follow the others in, looking around for the job board while the others get a drink. As usual, he doesn't drink.
Brace will walk with the others and keep an eye on the other development. He talks softly to Volkher and Keth "I don't know if you have noticed but we have a mysterious tail who seems to take great interest in what we are doing. He or she or it is lurking in the alley just outside the Tavern. I'll try to keep an eye on him while we get refreshment and look at the job board." Brace does exactly that as he enters the Tavern and searches for the job board while watching the alley as much as possible. Before he finds the job board he moves close enough to the others and gives them the same heads up about the lurker.

Landrae touches the brim of her cap and flashes a grateful smile in response to Saldus's imaginary tip then continues into the bar with the others.
"Ulfgar, I think me and thee and shall get along famously! Now lets go talk to the barman so he can start pouring." So saying, Landrae makes straight for the bar, and flags down the server. "A good day to you pourer of liquid merriment, Saldus spoke with us outside and suggested that a few fresh off the boat faces could find a drink and some work in the Knight. He also suggested that you might be willing to barter said beverages if I were to provide a little tune?"
Whilst some of the others check out the board, Landrae would like to negotiate with the bartender using all her charm and persuasion (10) to try and broker a deal for cheap drinks and a bite to eat for the party, possibly board if available. Offering a sample performance (25) if needed.
