its taking me a bit to get used to using a dice roller I keep worrying I am going to screw something up... I think maybe we all do but I am confident we are all trying and anything not right is just and honest mistake so no worries from me
In terms of rounds, do we get a chance at attacking each enemy individually, or just one go of rolls until the enemies get their chance once again? Also, for the sake of gameplay, should I limit my offensive weapon to just the longsword and not worry about the spear, hand axe, and dagger that I have, or does it matter to you at all, Our Mighty DM? :D
Also, loving the storyline thus far. The pictures you're posting are a nice touch.

chaiblazter I must say plenty of surprises and action just as advertised... I am most impressed not to mention having more fun than I have had in a long while. Thank you... as unpredictable as you are I would not hazard a guess what will come next but given the opening left at the end of combat I figured the cocksure Guido would try something unexpected as well. Figure its worth a shot anyway... you know never hurts to try!
It really make me feel great. As I said I am not able to post very much on the weekend, and usually its on my mobile, so the writing quality goes down quite a bit lol. I will try to edit and add photos on Monday.

Many days I won't get the chance to post anything until around 5-7pm EST because of my work schedule in the Archives, as you've all seen. I'm an afternooner, hahaha.
How long have you been playing drums? Eight years here, myself. I was inspired after seeing Prince in concert. His drummer John Blackmore (r.i.p.) was such an incredible entertainer that I went that night and, on a whim, bought the rock band game with its drum set. Six month's later I bought a full kit and next month I'm finally biting the bullet and getting that Roland TKD-30 of my dreams.

Well, I am 24 now, so I guess this is my 20th drumiversary. Haha. I started formal lessons when I was 4. I don't remember exactly why I started, I actually don't remember a time that drumming wasn't a part of my life, haha. I grew up in a small town in rural Oregon so there wasn't much to do other than play drums every spare moment I had. I actually just finished making my own custom drum set. I am working on buying a set of Istanbul Agop cymbals. But bronze is expensive, haha. Good call on the Roland I have played a few, they can be a lot of fun! I will try to post a photo of my drums tomorrow. They are Xmen themed if you happen to be into comics as well.
Comics :) I love comics... had to give up collecting back when time and family commitments got to be too much and I also gave up gaming... have not read a comic in years but still consider myself a comic fan/nerd... still catch the comic movies and such but for me the Netflix marvel series blows the movies away... at least for me.
Comics were, naturally, a huge part of my life growing up as well. I was an avid Marvel kid; I never got into DC but still respected their brand.
I've never heard of the Istanbul cymbals. Meinl has a Byzance series but I was unaware of these.
I'm a Sabian guy. My drum teachers are to blame for that, they're nearly universally Sabian people, except for one guy who has the money for Paiste stuff (only because of his obsession with Stuart Copeland)
A buddy of mine lives in Beaverton who is also a drummer, but he's a Yankee's fan so I don't talk about him very much, hahahaha.

Istanbul Agop is a smaller brand. They use really really pure alloy for the cymbals. It's all hand hammered and lathed in Turkey by cymbalsmiths there. It can be a very expensive brand to get but the series that I have is not too bad, they seem to go on sale pretty often too. They have some cymbals that are just crazy price though.
Off topic; How is the campaign going for you guys? I feel bad for sort of forcing the narrative a bit, but I think that sometimes in the PbP people can lose interest if there is too much open space. Idk. Let me know what you think, feed back is always appreciated! I want to make a great game for you guys so if there is something I can tweak just let me know!
...I am not going to worry about tracking components. Unless you really want your character to be into them, in which case I would offer maybe some incentive, but, I just assume a magical wizard can plan ahead, haha...
Unfortunately, when you posted this I had to look up what a component was. Granted, I knew of them, just the term hadn't latched in my head.
But I would like further explanation on what you mean. I presume you are saying, you're trusting us to have/use spells properly only if we have the component needed. Is that correct?
Interpretation B: You don't need the component in order to cast the spell.
Current situation at hand: I would like to potentially cast Detect Poison or Disease on this vial. The spell requires a yew leaf and that doesn't seem to be amongst the thing already in my Priest's Pack.
Also, I am quiet enjoying this. It's definitely a good way to be able to keep digging in as I wait for my next in person session. But it's also been a fun, intriguing campaign.
My only wish is that I was a bit more familiar with the mechanics of dnd because I feel like the only thing I can do outside of combat is a perception roll, hahaha.
It's a learning process, though, so I'm not going to be too hard on myself.

You will need to excuse my thinking regarding causing the whole thing about spell components to be brought up. I am old school back to like 3.5 rules and then I played real life and even attended and played AD&D at GenCon a few times as well. All very different, back then we were all gaming nerds, I rarely met a DM in a tournament or within my local group that did not make players track spell components and equipment... if it was not on your player sheet you didn't have it. Then when captured it was standard depending on who took you to strip you down so spell components had to be scrounged or alternatives found. This version, 5e things are a bit different but I think are much better than the old rules a big improvement. For a play by post game I can see a DM wanting to streamline things for the sake of play and I agree! Not to have to keep track is a good thing. I was just PTSD mode going back to the old days and not knowing how we were doing things here with 'chai' was going to do it. I was just hoping for the best and preparing for the worst lol! Now I am getting more a feel for 5e and how 'chai' is running things I have absolutely no problems with it... he is doing a great job especially given the limitations of playing by post! First rule of d&d in any case is the DM is always right because even from the old days until now the game is meant to be fluid for the most part.
I don't think your previous post about DMs pounding component usage in your head muddled me too much. I just want to make sure I am understanding Chai's intentions.
Honestly, if I were a DM, I think I'd be a stickler for keeping track of things.
Hey guys! Glad you are enjoying it so far. Always feel free to let me know what you feel on here. I am always open to suggestions, especially since in PbP it becomes harder to read the players. Haha.
On the issue of components; there are a couple of reasons I don't worry about it. It is time consuming to find every ingredient to cast a level one spell. Also it is hard to keep track of IRL, like if you were to go to the forest to gather a rare mushroom cap, a ravens beak, and a drop of maple sap, I have to fins the spell to verify that those are actually the right things lol here is something that I would like to try. I have been in some games where, when in a position to visit a store or stores, you can spend X amount of gold to fill your ingredient pouch. That way you are still considering it, but we arent spending a lot of time to find each individual thing. If you guys would like to tack components, we totally can, ultimately this our story collectively, I want to hold your interest. If you would be more invested in the game by tracking them then let's try it!
Bad: the last in person game I played was a 3.5e which is way different. I used podcasts to get a better feel for the 5e game. Sneak Attack! Adventure.exe and The Adventure Zone, are great starting points. Especially Sneak Attack! Its engaging, funny, clean, and they do a pretty good job of sticking to the rules as intended. I am sure that if you get 5 episodes in, you will feel much more confident in your knowledge of the core mechanics. Also when in doubt, just tell me what you want to do, just say it and I can resolve the roll, or tell you what to roll. For example you can say: "I want to grab the vine and swing like Tarzan across the pit but I'm not sure what to roll" and I would just decide whether it would be an athletics roll or acrobatics. That's totally fine! In fact if you listen to those podcasts you will find that they do it all the time too! And they are all there in person.
Like I said, its our game all collectively. I want you to be engaged and intrigued and having a blast!
I'm open to whatever with components. Obviously, it'd be more freeing with my spells to not track them. Would it be simpler to not worry about it for our format?
I haven't checked out any podcasts before, though was vaguely aware of them existing. I'll have to check them out.
Yeah I just assumed he was asleep, Guido had no intention of going up there and going through a dead elf's belongings and such lol. Either to talk or... I was not sure the orcs would allow us up on the watch towers until seeing the elf up there so figured it was worth a look to get a better lay of the land, anything else is gravy ;)
