"And I thank you for that, Sergeant," nodded Ola, "hope the story will end once and for all. But today our group is here for another matter. These are the same people I mentioned before - Uragum and Arnald," introduces Ola present company, "and as active adventuring group we picked up a rumour about troubles in Sokol Keep, that other organizations in town probably lack of men-power to solve. We came to offer our service and to hear more about the problem if you accept said service."
Sylyra presents the woman with a winning smile. "Good afternoon. My name is Sylyra Wasanthi ..." He pauses to see if there's any recognition of the name. "And this is Zelra ... Zelra," he says, obviously having no idea what Zelra's last name is, but trying to play it off. "Do we have the pleasure to speaking with Liela? We're here to speak with her about the beacon."
"Right, Uragum here. Didn't know you knew our friend but we were sent by Keria and Aravele. Said you might be able to give us some info so we aren't walking in blind," the big man said.
The woman blinks slowly. "I see." She takes a deep breath, then says, "Yes, I am Liela. I don't know who sent you here, but at this time we are not accepting outside investigations onto the island. Is there something else I can help you with?"

The stodgy dwarf adjusts the pants of his armor and grunts, "Ah, yep, hard not to know 'er on account o' her blue skin, there. That and she's...persistent, that."
He motions you into the guardpost and shuts the door, walking over to a desk in the corner. "Now I don't know this Kerio or Carnavale, but we're stretched pretty thin right now. Who'd I be to turn down free labor! Do what ye will, just don't break the law. The Keep's run by House Sokol, they have an administrative office a couple doors down, ye might wanna be speakin' to them there," he says.
Ola gave Sergeant a half smile, admitting but not regretting personal persistence. "And so we will, although people say, Black Guards had a strong presence in the Keep, outpost even, so we could not go there without verifying the information with you. So, did I get it right, Black Guards have no objection for our group to investigate the Keep on your behalf? If so, what can you tell us about events there? We heard about missing guards, is that true?"
"So House Sokol has decided to turn a blind eye toward the spirit ships that have been harassing the coast?" Sylyra asks coldly. "That doesn't sound like a very good reputation to develop."

"We have done no such thing, Mr. Wasanthi," Liela briskly responds. "In fact, that has taken all of the attention of our limited staffing."
She paces throughout the room for a moment, hands behind her back, stopping to speak twice before finally doing so. "I am hesitant to permit such an open investigation from outsiders, but I have heard stories of your group, and I'll admit...the situation is pressing," she says.
"The Keep is operated by Igan Sokol, a young scion of the house. There are also two caretakers in the employ of House Sokol, Darvag and Shandra, that have worked there for quite awhile. There is also a contingent of Black Fist guards on the island; six, if I recall correctly. This is all the staffing that we have had to deal with this, and obviously they have not had an easy time of it. I just want this business over with so I don't have to deal with the demands of brutish dockworkers anymore," she concludes.

"Aye, aye, aye, we can use the--missing guards? I've heard nothin' of the sort. Wouldn't be the first time I haven't been informed though," the dwarf grumbles.
"Ensuring the beacon is lit is House Sokol's job, not ours. But we are there to make sure they're safe to get it done. Ye'll want to be on the lookout for Guard Sergeant Grim, he's in command of the contingent there, six in all. He's a lazy bastard, the beacon stayin' dark should be proof o' that. He seems to like it there though...he keeps volunteerin', even though duty there is usually punishment," he relays.
Sylyra's smile returns. "And that's why we're here. If you've heard of us, you know we get the job done. Now, before we head to the island, tell us everything that's been going on."
"There is not much more I can tell you; not because I'm holding anything back, but because I'm as much in the dark as the beacon. I would suggest speaking with the Black Fist representative three doors down. He is responsible for the scheduling of the guards on the island, and may be able to tell you more," Liela says. She jots a quick note on a piece of paper and holds it toward you.
"Take this to Karst, the ferryman. He can take you to Thorn Island," she says.

"If I were you I wouldn't put too much stock in the words o' bored drunkards. Believe me, I know. I'm usually one of 'em!" He erupts into a brief moment of laughter, then clears his throat. "To get to Thorn Island where the Keep is ye'll want to speak to the ferryman. His name's Karst, drop my name to him and he'll get ye across. And, uh...keep me apprised of any developments. By Moradin's beard, if ye can get that beacon figured out I can get back to me usual pace," he says.
"I feel like the longer we wait the more trouble that could arise. I say yes, let's head to the fairy man," Uragum says. Turning to Arnold he says, "So will this man fly us across the water? Well however it works to be meeting a fairy."
"Of course," did not argue Ola, "we can pick them up on the way to the ferry." She wished Sergeant all the best and left the dock-house with the others.
Liela shakes her head, "I'm sorry, but Igan is going to chew me out just for allowing an investigation onto the island. If he finds out I also funded it, I'll be out of a job."

Zelra takes the paper and puts it away. "Don't mean to be rude, just curious is all, but... is there any pay or reward if we manage to fix the beacon?"
"We will," assured Ola old Sergeant Hurn, "and hope you would not forget our report either." She turned to others: "To the ferry then?"
