Where do heroes come from? Some answer that they are chosen by fate, others that they are born like all of us but tested in the fires of adversity. But whatever their origin, how shall we know them when they walk among us? By design of the gods themselves. Many boast of great deeds; many claim to be worthy of honor and praise; yet among these, sadly, are those who are but deceivers, not true heroes at all. How shall we know our true heroes and honor them above all others?

Its a work in progress, but I am considering a shadar-kai hexblade. I'll post all the info later today. I have to head to bed now. XD
Background: Inheritor (his mother's longsword and gal-ralan)
Backstory:
Shanairla Amastacia, a shadar-kai, was sent to the Material Plane to await a great tragedy. She was there for years, in the small town of Lindenhurst, where she was told to wait. Year after year passed, and there was no great tragedy. She grew familiar with the locals, met a brave man named Beiro, with whom she had two children and adopted a third.
For awhile, the life was good. Shanairla never forgot her mission, but there was never a tragedy sufficient to bring to the Raven Queen.
Aerdeth was the first of her three sons, a particularly hale and hearty specimen who was nonetheless physically a shadar-kai. Traulam was the second son, a somewhat more depressed boy. When Beiro was unable to produce a third child, they adopted a wayward tiefling boy named Euron.
Now in his 50s, the father Beiro had grown flexible in his morality and confident in his greed and was imprisoned for illegal poaching of deer that were sacred to the local temple. His imprisonment brought ruin to the family, and too late, Shanairla realized the tragedy she was waiting for.
The children grew apart. Euron, the tiefling, felt that he couldn’t rely on his family anymore, and went into politics, seeking power and wealth for himself, by any means necessary. The middle child, Traulam, saw the need for reform in local law and became a mid-level bureaucrat in a large city nearby. He would send his wages home to feed the mother Shanairla, who was left broken by the loss of her husband and the dissolution of her family.
Aerdeth stayed in his hometown for some time, continuing his father’s work as a trapper. While there, he grew infatuated with the woman Edelina, a half-elf dancer who was a popular attraction at the tavern. One drunken night, he got into an altercation with a rival and left the man crippled. For this assault, he served three years of jail time. While imprisoned, he heard the voice of the Raven Queen for the first time. He saw in dreams that his fate was larger than this simple life, that he couldn’t stay in this town anymore.
Upon his release, he took his mother’s longsword and galan-ra and left to find wealth and adventurer.
The rest of his story is written in rumor and legend and intertwined with that of other heroes.
Family Members:
Shanairla Amastacia: Mother, agent of the Raven Queen who grew comfortable and happy, only to lose it all.
Beiro Ceilex: Father, human, poacher. Absent, presumed died in prison (~80 years old)
Traulam Amastacia: Younger brother, mid-level bureaucrat who sends money home to Shanairla. Mid 40s. Pessimist.
Euron Amastacia: Adopted brother, tiefling. Mid 20s. Jaded from the imprisonment of Beiro, now a cuthroat local politician.
Miscellaneous:
Current lore of shadar-kai doesn't mention anything about a gal-ralan but I think its still an interesting, if unnecessary part of their culture. Link.
Quilla Nyx: Gnome and Aerdeth's primary warden during his imprisonment. She grew friendly with him but there was never any romance.
Edelina Aelar: Half-elf dancer whom Aerdeth was infatuated with. She's doing quite well, but scorned him after he assaulted a rival.
Fargrim Barendd: Dwarf and romantic rival who Aerdeth crippled in a fight. Still has a pronounced limp.

Name: Sam Silverwind Race: Half Elf Class: Bard Background: Charlatan Backstory: (a bit of a rough draft, I love the idea of no tragic orphans!) Growing up the son of tavern keepers was a simple life, too simple for Sam. His parents own the Flagon Dragon tavern, his older brother worked the bar, his little sister served the tables, Sam played his viol every night, things were predictable. One night after his show Sam decided he had enough, and worked up the courage to tell his parents he was leaving to become ad adventurer! Thinking that his mother would burst in to tears, and his father would look down on him in disapproval, Sam's surprise could not have been greater when instead, his parents smiled at each other and lead Sam up in to the attic. Opening up an old trunk that had been there as long as Sam could remember they showed up their gear from when they had been adventurers, telling Sam that they had earned the money they used to buy this tavern after many year of adventuring. They had even met and fell in love during their adventures! Gifting Sam some of their gear they sent him off in search of his Uncle Ben, a famous adventurer. The rest, as they say, is the stuff of song. Songs Sam wrote himself Family Members: Mother (Elf)- Elaria, Father (human)- Lucas, Older Brother- Luke Jr, Little Sister- Lyra. Uncle (Elf)- Benathiel

Rolling for stats: 14181017912 =Application Info= Name: "Doc", "Doc Jennings" or "The Doctor" - (Given Name - Elias Jennings) Race: Variant Human Class: Rogue/Mastermind Background: Cloistered Scholar (Age 54) Backstory: (Aware of the no "No family" policy, if "New Family" doesn't count, then I can re-write. BEWARE: Edge, slowly transition to wholesome) Though inept at magic, the young Elias Jennings was a prodigy of sorts with his deft hands and quickened mind. He attended a prestigious academy by recommendation, gleaning as much as he could from every book he could acquire. His birth family was quite poor and of limited means, he cared for them but due to his isolation and as the years wore on he grew more distant as his success in studies brought him to greater heights within the academic fields especially regarding anatomy, biology and modern military tactics.
By the time he was in his early twenties, he had received word that his family had perished in a plague that had swept through his home town. Distraught, he fell into a downward spiral. He had spent so many years studying medicine, anatomy and biology to return home and improve the lives of those who had helped grant him the opportunity. With little left to carry on, he drank heavily and fell through the cracks of society. Working as a back-alley surgeon for unsavory sorts and living from day to day with a forlorn, hopeless stare. For most of the next two decades, criminals and ne'er do-wells throughout the region had heard the name of "Doc Jennings", who would accept any and all takers for the right coin.
Things changed however, when he began what would have been the very beginning of his twilight years. He was approached one day at the market in broad daylight, despite his best efforts to maintain his appearance of just a simple retired scholar, by a young woman with the same bright red hair and green eyes he'd seen in the reflection so many times before. She hesitantly revealed that she had been searching for him for years; her mother, having just been one of the many harlots in the city but who tried to give her daughter a chance. Upon further discussion and discovery, Elias realized that this woman was indeed his daughter and after some time to process, she brought him home to her current family. Nothing luxurious by any standard, but her husband and their daughter had done fairly well for themselves and lived comfortably. The joy he felt in his heart was renewed and multiplied a hundred fold upon meeting his granddaughter.
These days, "The Doctor" works tirelessly alongside other well-meaning souls, using his peerless wit and reflexes to aid protect the lands. All in the hopes of providing a better life, not only to his newfound family, but to all who wish to carve out a happy existence for themselves in this world.

Williem is the third and last son to a noble household, a position of neglect in most highborn families. His childhood was boorish and inconsequential until he was able to begin training for what would be his suffering place in life, a third rate unglorified military officer.
He was a fine hand with a blade and not a threat on the field to his fellow soldiers which earned him some respect. It was during his first few forays into action that a miracle (though a curse was more accurate) occured. He was fighting a small crew of brigands when things began going poorly for him, his life was nearly over until a strange sensation washed over Willem. His hands, his movements, were not truly his own. Before him stood apparitions, quite similar in appearance to him, and they seemed to guide his strikes and aid him. He won that day and word was out about the Noble man's strange occurrence.
He was immediately whisked home by his family and given the most amazing news. Hundreds of years earlier the Covingland family was cursed that a member from every few generations would be haunted by the fallen cursed family. Initially, as legend says, this was indeed a horrible plague but as years and generations went by the spirits found they could aid their newly cursed family and succeed in still bringing honor to the household.
Now, Willem travels and fights in the name of his family though his living relatives wish he would stay and be a show piece for their nobility. They eschewed him once and now he will do what he must.

Name: Lia Amistasia Race: Half-elf Class: Wizard (Enchanter) Background: Criminal Backstory: Lia grew up with her mother, living in the city or town chosen. They got by, her mother working at a local tavern as a waitress, while Lia was often left to run the streets with her friends. She eventually fell in with the wrong crowd, and started learning to pick pockets, as well as locks. When her mother found out Lia was brought to the tavern owner, who had a talking with her, that she pretty much ignored. Her mother was always worried about the lack of a father in her life, and offtimes her boss tried to step in and help out his employee by being a male role model in Lia's life. She did not know who her father was in truth, but her half-elven blood, shown through the white hair she had, that could almost be passed off as a very light shade of blond, pluss her slightly pointed ears, told her that he was most likely an elf of some kind. As she grew older, magical powers began to manifest. She began to ask more questions about her true father, and, eventually her mother sat her down and explained that she had fallen in love with an elf. They had spent a couple years traveling together, but he had had to leave, since he was uncomfortable living among humans. It was a lie, and Lia knew it for a lie, but she also could see there was some pain there that her mother was very clearly not over, and most likely would never be over. She let it drop, but wondered who this mystery elf was who had sired her, then left. Her mother eventually married, and had two more children with Lia's step-father. Eventually Lia got over her identity issues, and found she liked just being herself. She kept in contact with those friends from her rebellious stage though, people she trusted and knew would have her back. She spent a lot of time in the tavern talking to adventurers, hearing stories of their travels. She yearned to follow after them, but was uncertain if she was ready for that yet. Her mother apprenticed her to a local wizard, who took ehr in and taught her much of the ways of being a wizard. One day she did end up leaving with an adventuring band, and the rest has gone down in history.

=Application Info= Name: Hrothgar Densfell Race: Variant Human Class: Fighter (Purple Dragon Knight) (Plan to play supportive/protector with commander abilities to aid allies) Background: Soldier Backstory:
Hrothgar comes from respected family. His father Obrin is a paladin who is well known in the surrounding lands. At a young age his father trained Hrothgar to follow in his footsteps. Teaching him more then just how to fight. As a paladin Obrin led a group of soldiers called the Griffons Watch. One of which is Hrothgars uncle Tyron Bhadon, which is how his parents got introduced. As a commander Obrin also tough Hrothgar of tactics and to not just fight for himself. When he was older he also learned how to conduct himself in the presence of nobles and kings. He carried the banner of the griffon, the symbol of Obrins battalion. Even given one of the figurines of the griffon, like every captain carried that served Obrin.
But this path was not for Hrothgar, he never felt much for the gods or praying for their favor. The Griffons Watch only protected, only fighting when the enemy chose, Hrothgar wanted to do more for the people of the land. As time passed Hrothgar also wanted more than just to be known as Obrin's son. For these reasons he went to search for his own path. To fight for those that need it. He became a soldier at first fighting for politics and later a mercenary to fight for causes he saw fit. He learned to fight alongside others and found his natural place as a captain. Inspired by his fathers teachings Hrothgar is always inclined to protect and aid allies in combat. This brought him the respect of soldiers and those needing his aid. Near his hometown he started to make a name for himself. With knowledge of who he was also came more dangerous requests. Being away from home for longer periods of time forming his own group of companions. Only to be called back when news reached Hrothgar of the death of his uncle. He had fallen after a large attack.
Coming home Obrin tried to keep Hrothgar near, perhaps even under his fathers command. But at this point the two had grown apart in ideas, Obrin being much more religous and strict. They argued much about this matter untill Obrin finally saw he could not stop Hrothgar. As an act to keep Hrothgar safe he was given his uncles shield, to offer protection for someone that would place himself on the frontlines. And so Hrothgar departed once more to forge an even stronger group.
After finding this group he spent much time trying to improve his groups performance and survivability at the cost of his own. This did not bother Hrothgar as his bond to his allies meant more to himself.
Did not buy anything yet but also a question for DM and potential group: I was thinking about buying a carriage with a draft horse and perhaps a riding horse (not intending to use it as mount for war just social) but this depends on the campaign and groups wishes. But seemed like an interesting idea if we are a group that travels around.

Born and raised in Neverwinter in fairly comfortable living standards and wealth, as his parents were successful merchants operating a general goods and import/export business.
Not wanting to be a merchant, Killian explored the streets of Neverwinter and learned the city like the back of his hand. His uncle was part of the Wintershield Watchmen, the police force for Neverwinter and took Killian under wing his and taught him everything.
Killian was trained to track and use a crossbow, as well trained investigation and laws of the city. He would join the Wintershield Watchmen when turned 18 and served with honor and distinction with them as a City Watch and was promoted to the Investigator rank when he was 28.
He now operates as an Investigator of the Wintershield Watchmen. Investigating crimes around the city and tracking down criminals and murderers outside the city. (Quick story but can elaborate more again once I get to a computer typed that on my phone on the road lol, can change the city/town as well based on what the party decides.)

Name: Aerdeth Amastacia
Race: Shadar-kai
Class: Warlock (Hexblade)
Another medical problem. Indefinite hiatus. Sorry, all.

Name: Sam Silverwind
Race: Half Elf
Class: Bard
Background: Charlatan
Backstory: (a bit of a rough draft, I love the idea of no tragic orphans!) Growing up the son of tavern keepers was a simple life, too simple for Sam. Songs Sam wrote himself

Name: "Doc", "Doc Jennings" or "The Doctor" - (Given Name - Elias Jennings)
Race: Variant Human
Class: Rogue/Mastermind
Background: Cloistered Scholar (Age 54)
Backstory: (Aware of the no "No family" policy, if "New Family" doesn't count, then I can re-write. BEWARE: Edge, slowly transition to wholesome)
Though inept at magic, the young Elias Jennings was a prodigy of sorts with his deft hands and quickened mind.

Name: Willem Covingland
Race: Variant Human
Class: Barbarian/Ancestral Guardians
Background: Noble
Backstory:

Name: Lia Amistasia
Race: Half-elf
Class: Wizard (Enchanter)
Background: Criminal
Backstory:
Lia grew up with her mother, living in the city or town chosen.

Name: Hrothgar Densfell
Race: Variant Human
Class: Fighter (Purple Dragon Knight) (Plan to play supportive/protector with commander abilities to aid allies)
Background: Soldier
Backstory:

Hexblade is fine, Shadar-kai only links to the elf page. Research shows they are connected to the shadowfell. I might just not have the content unlocked. I'll need more info before i can agree to it. :)
I like it, do you have a sheet yet? :)
New family is fine, the ones i don't like are the "Whole family tree is dead, must avenge, or not, I'll decide later" type of thing. lol
I do like the character, post a sheet when possible please. :)
Very nice, i like the way you blended the class and background in there, update with a sheet when you can. :)
Nice backstory, I like the "I could have been a rogue in another life" aspect to it. Update with a sheet when you can. :)
