You hear several gruff voices speaking in some language you don't understand. The phrases come out in short bursts, and then a pause, and then laughter. From that Perception check you can tell there is more than one voice.

This barracks contains four roughly built wooden bunks, with heaped-up blankets and dirty dishes scattered about. A strong smell of unwashed bodies and rotten meat fills the air. Four tall, furry humanoids are lounging among the mess, barking orders at a sad little goblin that demeans itself for their amusement. Your sudden appearance causes the goblin to faint.
Striding confidently into the room, Umbriel will hold Glasstaff's staff prominently in front of him. "What in the Nine Hells are you fools doing? I pay you to protect this place, not humiliate goblins! Do you think I like using my magic to change my appearance? I do it because you idiots are bloody useless! There are meddlesome adventurers trapped in the tunnel, I need you to deal with them. You two," as Umbriel points to BB1 and BB2,"go, now. You two," this time pointing at BB3 and BB4, "wake that miserable wretch up and have him clean this room. I can smell it all the way back to my laboratory."
In a controlled, very slightly peeved tone, Umbriel says "I believe the Spider knows my worth, and what I bring to this little project of ours. There are three of them in the tunnel. They saw the nothic and are too scared to proceed. They look like fighters, though, so should give you a chance to stretch your muscles a bit. I'll meet you in the corridor in a moment and show you where they are."
