Tiny background: you all know each other well, you basically have just graduated from “college” together, where you’ve gained enough skill in your class to be considered first level. You all stuck together and helped each other keep your heads above water. It paid off- in fact, you are the top scorers of your school, which means you will be clamored for by the organizations that guide all: the guilds.
You don’t know much about each guild, education doesn’t teach them to remain impartial. You do know, however, that they are widely important and that rising though their ranks is a path to great fame.
Your graduate ceremony was held right before the event you partake in right now: the Interguild Recruitment Ceremony, a time where the guilds put away any resentment and celebrate the maturity of new graduates.
You stand in the plaza, facing a barrage of colors, noises, and smells, each hosted under 10 equally-spaced areas, each under the ornate banner of a guild.
Here are the list of guilds: Azorius, Boros, Dimir, Golgari, Gruul, Izzet, Orzhov, Rakdos, Selesnya, Simic. You can name one to go look at it, here are descriptions of each booth:
All of the banners have colors of two stripes, but they vary on which banner it is. For each booth you see:
Red-Black: A mask with two colors seems to adorn the name “Cult of Rakdos”. As you look underneath, you become enraptured by a fiery spectacle. Entertainers dressed in red-and-black jester costumes take turns between manning their counter and participating in making music, juggling flaming pins and stoking a gigantic fire with statues of the logo and a demonic figure adorned underneath.
Red-Blue: Underneath a banner of a slick red-and-blue dragon seemingly attaining knowledge with the styled letters “Izzet League”, you see all kinds of inventions and gizmos - one-pilot walking constructs, (inoperational) weapons, and poles crackling with magical energy. A team of goblins scuttle through their little workshop excitingly, proud of their works.
Blue-Green: A logo between a tree and a wave accompanies the booth of the Simic Combine. You can draw parallels between the Izzet and Simic: they both have interesting scientific works throughout their booth. There are glaring differences however: the Simic seem to carry themselves with more grace and haughtiness, and everything seems carefully arranged compared to the disorder of the Izzet. The hugest difference, however, is the content of their displays. Instead of technology, the Simic present miracles of life - hybrid creatures. Some of the presenters even take on tendencies of animals.
Blue-White: You see the logo of a circle within a triangle, supposedly to identify the Azorius Senate. Those manning the booth are officially dressed in the same blue and white color scheme. You see people clamor around a very detailed hologram.
Red-Green: the Gruul Clans identify themselves by several symbols, but the most prominent is a bundle of sticks on fire. Their booths contains all kinds of savage merriment: hunting, fishing, and roasting their kills
Blue-Black: the most intriguing aspect about House Dimir is it’s banner. A brain fashioned like a spider has one eye open above a hugely printed “HOUSE DIMIR WATCHES FOR TRUTH”. You see recording technology around the booth.
Red-White: Armored soldiers stand before the booth for the Boros Legion, silhouetted by a white fist against a red sun. Most importantly, you see proud angels with flaming swords, ready to protect the weak.
White-Green: a tree stands prominently to uphold the Selesnya Conclave, both on their logo and in their booth. There, caretakers meditate peacefully.
Green-Black: An insect’s head adorns the banner of the Golgari Swarm. Its custodians dress in black.
Black- A Sunburst logo clearly labeled “Church of Orzhov” illuminates this booth. As you approach, you see people dressed like priests, currently paying their respects to a gigantic altar with the same sunburst logo. As they pay their respects, you hear a choir, but can’t see where it comes from.
I will wait 4 days to move on in this one due to it being the first one (unless you all are raring to go). Just post who you want to see and you’ll see them. I’ll do a tiny intro for each character:
ThatOneOFFTopicPerson: Ergos the goblin monk uses alchemy to search for truth in a world of uncertainty.
HeathenAlligator: Kroneker the goblin ranger is greedy, vicious and paranoid, and uses his skills to take what he sees fit.
If you think more needs to be said about your character, do so below alongside any actions.
((Ready when you are, also, perhaps you should create a campaign so we can see each of our characters? I would love to see who I am also playing with.))
((Well, one of the characters you would be playing with is a greedy, vicious and paranoid goblin ranger. Just don't try to take what's his, or something he thinks is his, and you'll be fine.))
((Also, if I understood right, we're supposed to play without backgrounds, which means no background feature and no background proficiencies, is that right?))

Looks like a lot of us are here! First step: send me a PM by 3/18 at 11:59 PM so I can confirm activity in players. Then, read my edited text box above. Finally, make a post with any actions.
Kroneker will giddily look around the plaza, with a huge grin of razor-sharp teeth on his face and a customized crossbow on his back. He spent a good portion of his adult life to learn how to track and kill his enemies and how to survive in the wild. Healthy skills to have for someone who wants to be richer than a king and crush anyone who stands in his way.
Kroneker doesn't hesitate to go straight to the Gruul Clans to introduce himself.
"Name is Kroneker. Top ranger class. Don't know what means, but Kroneker is good hunting and killing. Will be great service to Gruul Clan." Kroneker starts speaking Orcish "They teach me Orc too. Was hard for Kroneker, but Kroneker study hard to be good hunter."
After that, Kroneker presents his crossbow.
"This custom-built by Kroneker. Normal crossbow too big for Kroneker, send Kroneker flying each shot. But this one is strong and light. Shoots hard, don't hurt arms. NO TOUCHING!"
Kroneker's grin turns into a vicious snarl for a second, but he regains his composure and the grin returns to his mouth as he looks up at the person(?) he's talking to.
Shissina moves slowly, from shadow to shadow, she looks over her shoulder every so often, but she'll stop by the Dimir booth. Glancing back and forth at Azorious and Orzhov as well.

A big, hulking figure mans the counter, as if to intimidate the cowardly. He replies in Orcish as well: “It gladdens me that there are still programs that teach the tribal language.” He goes back to Common: “You understand better in Common though. Good skills. Gruul Clans like hunting - we no like guilds who fight nature.” He cracks his knuckles. “So we fight back.”
Shissina moves slowly, from shadow to shadow, she looks over her shoulder every so often, but she'll stop by the Dimir booth. Glancing back and forth at Azorious and Orzhov as well.
You feel someone tap your shoulder as you turn around and see a Dimir agent standing there. “Good sneaking skills - if it weren’t for our vital-tracking skills we would have no idea you were here. You have skills that would be good for the House of Dimir. Join us, and help us expose the truth.”
A goblin steps into view, crowded in with the remaining college friends he recognizes. Brown eyes look out to the plaza, somewhat in an enamored gaze by all of these booths. Their skin is of a fair-orange complexion and covered by regular comfortable linen clothing;however, an eye-catching feature of this goblin is silver hair laid-back, probably to clear his view of any loose hair. He often has to look underneath people as a height of 3'4" warrants him to do. A backpack is seen on his person that is crafted and leatherworked to his fittings, adding several different pockets, pouches, and instead of any sack, their backpack is seemingly locked by three metallic pins on the middle, far left and right for the pack's opened part. Finally, inside of a refurbished leather-map case is a perfectly regular spear, the speartip however seems smaller than usual.
Ergos looks to the rest of them, and he looks to be quite drained by the plazas inhabitants, if only for his companions does he manage to stay focused;looking to the Izzet guild's red-blue banner, he makes his way towards them, perhaps feeling comfortable around his own race. He pays attention to his alchemist's kit, and is making sure all of its contents are in place.
Kroneker grins so wide it almost splits his head in half.
"Good. When Kroneker start?"
“People talking on big tables? That stop soon. Then bunch of boring people talk - but not Bobory, he our good friend. Then you go to little table and pick. Pick Gruul!” (after everybody sees their guilds and we have a whole-party discussion, and then you’ll PM me your pick, which I will post.)
Make sure you send your active PM confirming you are still around by 3/18 at 11:59PM. Thank you to the two players that have done this!
You all are temporarily splitting up to go see your favorite guilds. When you are finished interacting and ready to move on, type FINISHED at the end of your post. After everyone does this or 3/22 11:59PM passes by, we will have a little group discussion and then apply.

Valen, a powerfully-built human with scars that crisscross his entire body, walks forward. He moves resolutely towards the Boros Legion. He has a glaive in one hand, using it as a walking staff.
"I would like to apply here." He states as he reaches the booth.

"What's in it for me beyond exposing the truth?"
“You mean besides the altruism of it all? Well, you may not become well-known by the public, but you’ll have some status behind it all. You want to become an Azorius legislator? A Boros commander? An Orzhov priest? Talk to us and we’ll see what we can do.
”And besides, we know what you’ve done, Shissina. We know everything. If you try to leave us, we’ll spill it all, and your life will be in vain. I hope you see that you don’t have a choice. Join Dimir.”

A stout man with a fiery beard steps forward. “Welcome to the Boros Legion, how cann..” He stops and looks stunned. “Woah, is that a glaive?! It’s been ages since I’ve seen one of those. Where did ye get it?”
"An old friend of mine crafted it for me." Valen says as he runs a hand up and down the polished wood of the weapon's shaft. "An old dwarf artificer." He nods to the booth. "What do I need to do to sign up here? I would love to train with a weaponsmaster to refine my skills once accepted."
”Must have been a fine craftsman indeed. Well, our weaponmasters would certainly be avid to train ye skills with this. We haven’t seen a glaive-wielder in quite a while. After everyone stops talking, the guildmasters will give a speech. Then, you will be taken to a private booth to submit your applications - and if the guild accepts you they will announce your name after the submission is done.”
