It’s very clear to you that bad blood between Hilda and Gertrude. They haven’t been shy about voicing their opinions of each other before or even resorting into pranks and mild sabotage. But there is genuine disgust and confusion in her tone and mannerisms. If she did have anything to do with this, she should get the equivalent of an Oscar. You feel confident that there’s no connection. As she stumbles back to her table angrily you see it’s full of empty glasses, plates, and tankards. She’s been here for a while it seems
Hilda stumbles back to her table in a mood. As she does, Gertrude styles down too. Scoffing at Trywyn’s remark about the job board “There’s been no need of it before, since when did we get too big for our britches that we can’t speak face to face. Impersonal these job boards.... got to shake a man’s hand and look ‘em in the eye when you make a deal.” She takes out her own flask from her coat pocket and takes a sip. “I’d be much obliged if you all helped out. I could pay each of y’all 5 gold each and a pie of your choosing if you bring my sweet Timpleton back!” She waves down Rebecka to bring her a plate. “If y’all reckon to start at my place I think I should stay here.... to stressful for me...” her voice trails as her eyes track a plate of danishes.
Veryes closes her notebook and puts it back in her pocket while looking at her companions. "Sounds good to me! I think we all agree we should start at Gertrudes farm right?"
"Gerty, if you're sure you'll be ok we will take our leave"he gives Gertrude one last look over and heads to the door, handing rebecka a silver piece for the whiskey on his way. "Let's go find this Kid-napper"he chuckled at his own poor joke.
The group moves through the town. The cold steady wind causes your noses to begin to run by the time you get to the house. The snow that has lightly crunches beneath each foot step has been shoveled off the ground in Gertrude’s yard leaving open fields of dried grasses as some long coated goats graze. Her stone and wooden cottage sits quietly behind some hedges. You can see in the backyard separated from the others is a miniature version of her cottage sits with a stake and tether attached. Presumably Timpleton’s house.
A shed also stands on the property . You know this to be Gertrudes Cheese Shed.
Veryes will first take a broad look at the whole scene in the area of the back yard around the tree and the little kid house to see if she can determine a general idea of what went on
(I wouldn’t call a town, terrain. Yes, guidance is fine - I would assume unless stated with other actions players can assume guidance)
The group sprawls our and starts scanning the scene working together to try and piece together what has happened. At first look everyone is quite baffled as there are footprints and tracks all over the place. Like going around in circles and circles and circles and rolling around and jumping. So many taloned tracks and goat tracks mixed together and on top of themselves it’s not clear how many things were here. The tether wasn’t cut off.... looked mashed and freed on the end; like it was ripped or chewed apart. The group just kind of stand in the circles bewildered for a bit before it clicks in Rimmy’s head. These are kobold tracks.
Both sets of tracks (kobold and goat) walk over to the shed and then look to head to the mountains.
Rather stumped upon his initial investigation, Rimmy drops to the ground, getting a better look at the tracks. He sniffs at the ground like Old Finworth's hound when a rabbit is close-by hoping to get a chuckle out of his companions. Whether sniffing the ground actually worked, or his mind just finally connected the dots, the gardener popped up to his feet, confidently proclaiming, "Kobolds. Probably a few of 'em. Looks like the chewed through the tether and took Timpleton up towards the mountains."
He looks around at his companions, "Kobolds tend to be none-too-friendly from the tales I've heard from Ole Finworth. Could be a fight. Everyone properly prepared?"
Veryes breaks out her book and start making diagrams of the tracks and a big note once Rimmy says it... "Kobolds!" Already knowing she wont find one she looks through her book for another entry on Kobolds and lets out a "humph". As she's about to put her book away she sees Trynwyn strike a pose and jots down "We thought it was just a kid, I kid, In case we thought we all, would did, solve the case of the missing Kid"
Giggling to herself as she tucks her book away she says very earnestly "There's no Kobold worth a blue ribbon! Lets getem"
"Kobolds? Little draconic looking buggers. I say we try and find them"his motives perhaps not as straightforward as it may seem. Kobolds were known to scavenge the dead. Kondo's fascination of the macabre lending itself to his desire to find the beasts.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Survival to follow tracks: 20
The party is able to easily track the travel of the goat and kobold tracks. Even when the snow goes bare and gives way to rocky ground below, it doesn’t look like they were too careful. As broken twigs or half chewed hunks of cheese can be found. The trail is winding through the now forested hillside slope.
It was initially a relief to get behind the tree line as it blocked the wind and cold air from blowing too harshly. The trees give off a sickly sweet aroma.

The sickly sweet aroma grows stronger and stronger until the heavy pollen scent hangs thick in the air, the buzzing of various insects and bugs begin to grow. A cold stiff breeze forced itself through the clearing of trees and pushes past all of you. Up ahead you see A beautiful woman of elven features. Her pale green skin cloaked in sheer brown robes. She is quietly standing under a tree branch.
Her smile grows into a sneering cackle. “Well, I see we have some visitors in the forest. A beautiful mistress to spend the day in, but be warned. Those that linger should offer a gift for protection from all those critters that stalk in the night.” She begins to walk towards the four of you.

(oh, good idea. I'd grab a chicken leg or something to take on the walk since I'm missing second breakfast now. I don't want to get hangry :)

Insight 6
Seeing the beautiful elf approach, Kondo listens to her words and attempts to determine if she speaks the truth or is attempting to mislead the group.
" Hail beautiful Lady of the Forest. We seek the trail of Kobold thieves, would you have seen such creatures enter your forest?"
