Isobi looked at the badge for, probably, a whole minute - she never expected to be one of the Whatchman. Somehow that little piece of metal made her to feel bigger and more confident. "Yes," she echoed Sky, "yes we are going there right away. We shall check with you, sir, the moment we find something."
Dice is amazed at the badge. He has never had anything like that before. He nods and takes it humbly. "I will make this proud. Well group, it would seem we are companions now! Let's go look at the breakout and see what we can learn. These badges should be worth a lot as we work to get around now."
Not paying the small metal thing the slightest of interest, River turns and walks beside Sky toward the explosion site. She walks perhaps half a step behind the tabaxi.
It’s easy to see the metallic sheen of many tall steel plates affixed to the mountainside—the outer walls of Gearhole Prison. Moonlight and still-smoldering fires frame the billowing smoke that pours from a gaping cavity in the rock and metal, marking the violent escape route taken by the goliath and her accomplices.
As the group approaches, a pair of different guards block their way. Instead of the watchmaster's uniform, their attire is more akin to a soldier's gear, with the empire's crest onto their pauldrons. The two guards look over Sky, giving a glance to River, then one speaks,
"An accident just occured, citizen, no need to worry yourselves. As Crownguard, we have the situation under control so please take your leave."
The other crownguard gives a solemn nod to his comrade's statement.
Isobi cleared her throat and as officially as she could master declared: "City Watch representatives," she showed the Imperial guards //what race are they, by the way?// her badge. "Here to investigate the prison break."
Dornik nods. "Yes sir, that's the truth. Just lookin' around for the watchmaster. Give us but a moment and we'll be out of your hair. Don't mean to impose or nothin', and certainly not here to start up any trouble."
One of the guards look to badge, then turns to his fellow and nods. "You are working for the Watchmaster then, very well, I shall guide you to the 'accident'."
(It is a human and tiefling, the human is the silent one while the tiefling did the talking. So right now, the tiefling is leading you all to the scene of the breakout.)
A ten-foot-wide hole edged with twisted steel and jagged rock opens up above a pile of rubble. Beyond the hole is a badly damaged stone prison cell, little more than soot-stained walls and an overturned bed charred on one side. A thin skylight above the hole matches others alongside it in the steel wall, and was apparently the cell’s window. A mangled chamber pot is embedded in the right wall, where a elf in a long leather coat is pulling it from the stone. She pockets three charred pieces of paper from the brass pot before turning and acknowledging your presence.
"Hmm? To what business does such a strange group need here?"
Isobi looked back at her companions then turned to the woman and explained again: "We were sent by the Watchmaster. As investigators, that is. For the city. Five of us." The woman was a bit intimidating in her (granted, very justifiable) "all-business" attitude and Isobi was taken aback a bit. "How can we help, mam?"
River stops short and lets the others move in front as the tiefling halts their forward progress. She silently makes note of all visible weapons on both the guards, examining them as Isobi and Dornik explain. As the group is lead inside, River follows in the back. Her eyes are in constant movement as she takes in the prison. When they stop at the cell, the bugbear's eyes narrow at the elf.
The elf snickers, "Help? You all must be new to this if your offering to help the competition. I am Yinra Emberwind, a well known bounty hunter among these parts. I heard the explosion up from Idleworks and headed straight here. Saw that the crownguard were bumbling about, from the explosion and the escape of their prisoners. That's where I offered my services. And...you all are the best that the watchmaster could get, hmm? Not much of a competition then."
She dusts herself off before giving a somewhat mocking bow, "I've already finished my work here, so best of luck catching up."
So, she was not an official then. Not that smart either, it seemed... or - wait, there is a word for it! - yes, "not socially adept" (comes with profession, of course) "We are no competition of yours at all." Stated obviousIsobi. "We need the prisoner to be returned to the prison. That is it. How it will be done, and who exactly will be the one returning her - is no matter to the city, I guess this is why you were even allowed here. You want to do it alone - go ahead, but we saw both the prisoner and her escort, and know what she can do. You - don't. On the other hand, you are trying to hide the evidences, which can be classified as obstruction of justice." (badge really makes one feel important and forces to remember most strange words) "Why don't we help each other out and share what we know? You get her - fine by us, you slip and get killed by her - we will be better equipped to apprehend the prisoner."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
While Isobi tries to get the bounty hunter to cooperate, Dice starts to look around: [investigation] 11 if anyone else is helping then 8 (for advantage)
(OOC: it is hard to tell with these broken popups but that was a 6 and a 3 with a +5 bonus, sigh)
If Yinra still has the pieces of paper in her pocket when she goes to leave, River will attempt to pick the pocket using her size and the voluminous cloak to cover her attempt (sleight of hand): 7.
As Isobi lectures Yinra who simply rolls her eyes at her, she notices a hand near her pockets. She grabs the hand and looks to Isobi, "Well your lecture was definitely a bore to hear, almost put me to sleep. But really, to call me obstructing justice when you all are hired help and your friend here just tried to steal from me. Talk about being a hypocrite." She gives a laugh as she starts to walk past the group. "Its a competition because whoever catches her, gets the reward and fame. And I intend to do just that, so good luck, little girl." She says condescendingly as she gives a pat on Isobi's head as she exits.
(At Dice, a bit too much of a general action. You can roll again for items in the cell to examine. But a general action like before will mostly just give you a description of the room once more.)
Sky growls loudly as Yinra insults Isobi's size as he puffs up to full height then once she has left enters the room and looking at the way the bed is position guesses that it was used to shield the prisoner from the blast. Looking at Dice "How about we check this rubble this prisoner must have used something to blast a hole this big."
Tried to pat, Isobi would have non of it and step away. "River tried to retrieve evidences you wanted to conceal." "Have it your way, but don't run crying to us, when Goliath eats you up!"
Pretending not seeing the elf anymore, Isobi looked around the cell: Perception - 22 Investigation - 9
Stepping into the cell, Dornik growls at the retreating form. “Dealt with her type before. Bounty hunters are always trouble. We best be even more careful now.” Taking a look around the room, the half orc pauses for a second and inhaled deeply. Is there the scent of gunpowder or some other explosive compound in the air that Dornik would recognize from his time on the battlefield that would denote a chemical reaction or explosion? Or does it appear to have been magical in nature?
As her hand is grabbed, River yanks it out of Yinra's grasp. She glares at the bounty hunter until she is out of sight. Once she is, River's bravado, as well as her stature, decreases. "Duun tuul," she hisses, not looking at anyone. Then, "Sorry." She begins walking around in the hall, looking for clues as to how the kobolds helped the goliath escape.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
