A ten-foot-wide hole edged with twisted steel and jagged rock opens up above a pile of rubble. Beyond the hole is a badly damaged stone prison cell, little more than soot-stained walls and an overturned bed charred on one side. A thin skylight above the hole matches others alongside it in the steel wall, and was apparently the cell’s window. A mangled chamber pot is embedded in the right wall.
@ Dornik
There's a lingering smell, reminding you of blasting powder. The room seems to be the source of the smell and there was no whiff of it in the halls on your way here.
@ River
The halls are spotless except for the rubble and dust from the cell. The guard takes note of your examination and gives a nod, "We had two men stationed out front. They testified that they saw no one enter the prison, neither guard nor city watch."
@ Dice
The other side of the bed is relatively undamaged, seems to have been used as cover. But what really catches your eye is when you check the burned part of the bed. Lodged into the bed is a jagged, fist-sized, shard of bronze. It smells strongly of sulfur and burnt blasting powder. It is vastly different from any of the other items in the cell.
@ Sky
Upon examining the rubble, it is easy to tell that the explosion came from inside the cell. From how the metal bends and the stone are blown outward.
(Feel free to ask the guard questions, for example, 'where could one get explosives in the city' and 'Was the prisoner acting strangely?')
"Someone must have assisted the prisoner in their escape the blast looks to have come from the inside of the cell" talking to the other then looking at the guards "Who was on guard duty in the prison they may have seen who ever helped them escape."
"Just a moment, River, there are some questions to be asked." Isobi also had one: "Is visiting allowed here? Someone had to smuggle the explosives here. Do you check prisoner's cells often?"
The guard answers, "Crom and Phennis were on watch last night. No one entered the prison last night due to the festival and they were first to check on the prisoner when the explosion went off." Then the guard shakes his head, "Due to the prisoner's actions, we do not allow any visitors to her cell. Only time that she sees another is when she is served food. Which me and my partner are responsible for. And the cells are checked weekly."
Dice will explain is findings to the others "If you look at this" he shows them the jagged fist sized shard of bronze. "It would appear that someone smuggled a bomb into the cell and they/it used the mattress to protect from the blast. I'd say they were still lucky not to get hurt. I'll ask around to see where these kinds of items might be found."
Dice will ask the guards some questions:
1. What was the prisoner acting like in the days or hours leading up to the escape?
2. Where can I learn about explosives in this city?
"She was acting normally, which is jeering and taunting us each time we approached and leave her. Even on the day of the festival, she was remarking how she should be let out and enjoy the festival as well...followed by a few distasteful remarks about what she'd do to the citizens. She has made no mention of escaping nor was she ever silent. "
"The only sanctioned place that is allowed to create such things will be the Firemark Facility and its staff."
Dice listens to (OOC: Hydra I don't know your characters name and he isn't in the campaign) <Hydra's character> and thinks "I believe there is indeed a good chance that they did not build the device in public as you hint at, but we should investigate the Firemark Facility as they will have information that could lead us in the right direction."
"Do you think that bomb would fit through that skylight?" Isobe looked at the shard of bronze. "They could climb up, trow it inside and then run". She did not know much about explosion, though, to be sure. "That elven woman, the bounty hunter, she found some paper here. Meaning, someone did smuggle at least a letter inside. May be in that food you brought. Who is cooking the food, by the way?"
"If I were to know of such places, then my duty as a crownguard is to apprehend and shutdown such places." The guard answers then looks to Isobi, "We serve her gruel and a roll of bread. They were made by the cook, who cooks for both the recruits and prisoners. But we do not show preference for either and just grab a plate when it is time to feed her."
(Is there anything else the party would like to investigate or question?)
As you all depart from the prison, the guard points you to where the Firemark Facility is. And after a short walk, you all arrive. This brown-and-red brick building is larger than you expected, its black-iron roof stretching over a massive compound. The scent of sulfur and blasting powder, familiar from the prison cell, is faint on the air here. As you draw near, a gnome guard approaches you with a suspicious look.
Isobi demonstrated the badge and diplomatically began: "Good evening. We are here on behalf of the city-watch. Searching for an expert in explosives, in case one is still here and not celebrating. Is there someone?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

The gnome guard draws her gaze over to others and gives a slight shrug. "Alright, just don't touch anything and don't get near any materials. I'm sure gaffer is still here, working his ass off."
The smell only gets stronger as you all enter the building. Even more so as the guard leads you to a black haired gnome tolling over an table filled with tools and powders. The guard taps his shoulder, "What?", the man asks, not giving a glance back.
"Boss, you got visitors."
"Tell them to go away."
"Boss, city watch visitors."
With a groan he turns back, lifting his magnifiers up. The gnome is old, the black in his hair actually ash along with dark circles around his eyes. He looks annoyed as he grumbles to himself, "And what the hell does the Bram want with me? I'm trying to double my quota for this month so I don't need any distractions."
Isobi, still very new to all that detective work, was direct and blunt (and also knew better than to waste precious time of a working man). "Watchmaster hoped you can help up to catch a dangerous prisoner that escaped using some kind of explosions. The cell wall was practically destroyed. Here is the piece we could collect," (she gave the gnome the bronze thingy) "Prisoner managed to stay un-injured, most likely hiding behind the bed during the explosion. Can you tell anything about how such bomb can be created?"

Lot's of stuff ...
The guard answers:
"What about any unsanctioned places? Every city has 'em, even a peaceful little place like this. What do you know about that?"
