Garets spirit falls when he sees the empty display mount and his mind travels back to earlier in their adventures.
He remembered that they picked up a magical mattock, was that the legendary weapon Pitbreaker, he examined the display stand carefully to see if it gave any indication of what weapon may have once rested there.
Brocc gathers all of the treasure and would put it into his pack to share out when they have time. "I can identify that staff there once we have a chance." He tells the others as that is added to his pack. Moving to the weapon holder, Brocc pulls out the magical mattock he has been carrying and checks to see how it fits. "Not likely the weapon." He comments as he tries it. "This is more of an earth-tending item, not as great of a fighting weapon. It likely will work good against that crystal thing though I'd imagine, but not some great all-encompassing Pit Breaker, at least in my opinion." Still he tries it to see if it fits in the holder.

It does not....though in laying it against the holder he is able to determine that the weapon that belongs here is likely a maul of some type.
"Not this then." Brocc says with a shrug. He glances around the chamber. Seeing nothing more of interest, he leaves the room and moves on to the next in the line.
The label on this door indicates the office belongs to Fingli Goldknee, Seniour Lecturer- Engineering.
As the door is opened there is a slight clinking sound and then a ratchet of metal on metal and the room is suddenly illuminated.
Looking around the walls are composed of an intricate network of gears, pulleys and gimbals which begin ticking slowly as if activated by the opening door, a series of oil lamps now flicker about the room filled by a series of thin gutters and lit by tiny automated flints.
A chair slowly unfolds and winds back from the semi-circular bronze and copper desk as an inkwell and rack of pens rise from its surface.
A small brass figure rolls out from beneath the desk and regards the companions with a single greenlit eye in a featureless face, " Visitors? You are not on the schedule. The Master is currently out."
"Your master has been gone for hundreds of years." Brocc informs the construct. "We are trying to learn the how and why of his disappearance." He looks around the chamber with his magical senses to see if anything is magical. As he does so he speaks to the construct. "Do you know anything about a great crystal demon that is roaving these halls and killing anyone it meets? Or about a weapon called Pit Breaker?"

The green lense swung about to face Brocc, " It has been some time."
" An entity resembling that description partially entered here some time ago through the floor. It did not have an appointment."
" I have not been loaded with information related to weapons, warfare, culinary arts, sewing, therapeutic massage and 879 other subjects."
Broccs magical sight does pick up slight glimmers of magic around the room but it seems for the most part all of the clockwork is simply highly engineered mundane machinery. Though there is a strong glimmer from a locked drawer in the desk.
"We need to have a look around." Brocc says to the construct. "I believe it is safe to say your master will not be keeping any appointments. They have left this place and will not be returning I fear. We would like to see if we can learn more about this place, deal with that crystal thing, and then see if we can help get this place resettled. Do you have any problems with us looking around in here?"

" I have no effective means of preventing you though I would ask you do not make a mess or steal my masters property."
Banzo will look at the way the little construct moves and talks, hoping to find any clues that would suggest it is similar to the smashed and destroyed bronze dwarf from earlier. If it allows, Banzo would even try gingerly touching a hand, arm, or the torso to better examine the construct's locomotion.

"These are fascinating devices, very like your spider companion wouldn't you say Brocc?"
It certainly seems quite similar to the shattered automaton outside and leaning close he can hear hundreds of tiny cogs and switches clicking inside its chassis. Though sturdy it does not seem particularly strong or fast.
"How long has it been since you're last seen your master, or anyone for that matter? What was the date, the exact year you were last of service to anyone? Would you like to once again have a purpose or function instead of wasting away here waiting for a master that will never return? Perhaps you could even help us look for him or anyone else here in this complex?"
(Banzo is attempting to befriend and then convince the tiny automaton to accompany them. Not sure how many rolls it might take but here is the first toward being on friendly terms.)

" I am unaware of the exact year as I was not loaded with functionality to record beyond a single recycling calendar year."
" But the last date I was of assistance was Earthday the 5th of Watching. My last interaction was interrupted by my Master removing the weapon from the wall and running out the door in response to cries for assistance."
" If it is of help I did hear a voice that I was able to identify as likely his calling out, I will translate from Dwarven into Allansian, " Retreat! Fall back to the Crucible........*unintelligible*....******* Demons!...Hurry...."

With a sudden whir of gears and levers the drawer slides open revealing a pair of work gloves and a leather belt with an iron buckle. Both show as magical.
Brocc's eyes light up at the sight. He wishes he had more time to study in this place, as this room, by itself, calls to him greatly. Reaching in he picks up the gloves and belt. Turning to the construct he holds them up. "Do you know what these do?" Brocc asks.

" They assist the Master with his work. I am unsure how exactly."

Zeltheris shrugs, "Rediscovering a lost dwarven city and defeating a demon of stone, this will make a very exciting tale."

Zeltheris thinks for a moment, "Could you lead us to your master's personal room? Better to have a guide than make a mess, yes?"
Brocc steps to where he senses the powerful magic and starts to search the desk to see what is showing up on his magic radar.
The magic seems to be contained within a securely locked and reinforced drawer in the huge desk.
" Apologies. I am unable to assist. I am unaware of the location of other rooms. Also I will become non-functional if I leave this room."

"Do you have access to unlock this drawer?" Brocc asks the construct, tapping the door in question.
" The Master is the only one who has the key."
Pulling out his thieve's tools, Brocc attempts to pick the lock...
