Keragri: The man chuckles and says "Now that's more like it!"He leans his bulk over his edge of the table and holds out a meaty hand, waiting for you to clasp it.
Please make a STR (Athletics) check to see if you're able to win the arm wrestling match.
I've highlighted the place where you can find your Athletics Skill on your character sheet in the picture below:
You can refer to the Skills section on your character sheet for any future Skill checks.
Your sheet shows a +2 bonus to Athletics. Go ahead and roll 1 d20 and add your +2 bonus to the result.
STR (Athletics) check for the man you're playing against: 13
If your roll is higher than the man's roll above, you win!
Lander: The belligerent man sways a bit on his feet before swiping the flagon from your outstretched hand. He sloppily quaffs it, spilling it over himself and onto the floor. He wipes his mouth with the back of his arm and sneers at you. He turns to head back to his table, but slips on the spilled ale. He goes down hard, hitting his head on a heavy wooden chair on the way down. The barmaid gasps and the man doesn't move. A pool of blood begins to grow around his head. The panicked barmaid shouts "Somebody do something!"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lander drops to his knees by the man and checks for any injuries. Although he doesn't have any medical training per se, he is rather smart so I'd like to make an intelligence check and see if I'm able to stabilize this injured man.
Intelligence check: 12
Lander yells to the other patrons: "Is anyone here a doctor?"
Lander: You frantically try to recall the few medical books you've read... Suddenly a thought coalesces in your mind... "...put pressure on the wound and check for a pulse." People begin to gather around and murmur. Someone tosses you a shabby rag as you press your fingers to the man's scruffy neck. You hold your breath and wait... Thump... Th-Thump... ThumpThump... You feel an erratic pulse. It's shaky and faint, but it's there. With rag in hand, you press down firmly against the wound. You recall reading something about scalp wounds looking worse than they actually are. The man begins to snore loudly as the gash in his head begins to clot. He'll have a scar for sure, but he seems stable. The barkeep approaches and says "Alright, everyone back up! Give us some space." He looks at you and the man snoring in your arms. "He'll live. Someone take him to his bed upstairs." The man is carried upstairs and the blood mopped up. The tavern returns to normalcy. The barkeep seeks you out and says "Your room and board are on the house tonight friend. If not for you a man would've died here tonight. Thank you."
OCC: A Wisdom (Medicine) check is more applicable in this situation than an Intelligence check. I allowed the Intelligence check in this instance, but I wanted to clarify for future attempts at stabilizing a dying person. Nice job though!
Riona slowly blinks with wide eyes, impressed by Lander's quick reaction. She walks over to him, no stranger to blood, and casts prestidigitation, instantaneously cleaning his now bloodied hands.
"That was quick thinking, I hope that young man finds some rest and has a quick recovery."
She turns her attention to the injured man's friend and barks in her best commanding mom voice.
"You better watch him tonight while he sleeps, head injuries can have lasting effects."She recalls the variety of injuries she saw in her time with the army. She finally adds,
"And make sure he has water"
She then watches the man expectantly until he heads off to do as she says.
Keragri: You grip the man's hand and begin to wrestle. Recalling your years of experience with contests of strength you know to pull his hand toward you and let him tire out his rotator cuff against your bulging bicep. You manage to keep the man's hand at a stand still until something behind him catches your eye. A drunk slips, cracking his head against a chair as he falls in a motionless heap on the ground. The man across from you takes advantage of your distraction and slams your hand to the table. "Heh, too easy..." the man says as he collects your coin. Then, hearing your challenge, he adds "Sure, double or nothing! Looks like the next round's on me boys!" and he readies himself for another match.
Keragri: The man's smug smile fades as you give him a taste of your true strength. He cries out in pain as you squeeze his hand, hardly reaching your true potential. You see fear in his eyes before you slam his hand to the table, knocking his drink into his lap. "Damn, yer an ox! Here's yer coin." he says as he shakes his sore hand. Ten copper pieces are laid on the table before you.
OOC: Nice roll! The dice giveth and the dice taketh away, ha ha.
All: I'd like to give Fedex a chance to post a bit before I move the story along to the job offer we're all waiting for. This would be a great time to role play your characters and interact with one another. Feel free to talk among yourselves and get to know each other. You never know just who you might have to trust with your life in the coming days... ;)
Also, great job so far everyone! It's been a treat to read your responses and create this story together. I'm having fun and I hope you are too! I'd like to give Fedex 'til the end of the day tomorrow to post before we move along. I probably won't be posting much more tonight, but tomorrow I'll be reading your posts and responding as needed while we wait. In the mean time, have fun getting to know each other!
Re-posting for Fedex: As you enjoy your ale and survey the room, you see simple folk enjoying a little drink and song to ease the weight of their boring but honest lives. Only one person catches your eye. A strikingly good looking woman across the room. Through the crowds, it is a bit hard to see her. The crowd parts and you see brown curls framing a heart shaped face that smiles as she catches your eye. She blushes and quickly turns away. You can see that she is still smiling though. After a few minutes, you catch her eye again. She smiles and looks at the empty seat across from her, then back to you with one eye brow raised.
Fedex is intrigued by the smile of the brown haired woman. He decides to approach her table and inquire about adventurous opportunities that might be available.
He crosses the floor and stands behind the empty chair at her table and says,
"Pardon me, my name is Fedex and I am new to this area. Might I join you for a moment?"
During his approach and introduction, Fedex is striving to not be intoxicated by her beauty but to be keenly aware of anyone or group that might not take kindly to his advancement. He can recall a few times that he had seen military buddies get cold-cocked by a jealous husband or boyfriend when they had been too single-minded.
Lander looks at both the barkeep and Riona. "Thanks for the kind words. I'm just glad it looks like he'll be alright." He is a bit shaken and extends his hand out to Riona. "By the way, I know we travelled the last few miles into town together but I never told you my name. I'm Lander Greenleaf. Thanks for casting the cleanse spell. You'll have to teach me that one some time."
(OOC: I'll remember the wisdom check from now on. I saw on my sheet I have a +1 in medicine even though I technically dont have the skill. Am I able to use it as a medicine check, or is that considered a wisdom check?)
I was being cheered all around me. When a Goliath wins in any competition, heavy drinking always comes after. I turn towards the bar when I spot a pool of blood at the feet of a Human woman and a halfling man. In the distance is a man with a rag to his head being dragged upstairs, clearly unconscious. What of the matter, so I yell at the Human woman,
"You, Woman! Fetch me a round of your strongest ale!" I roar myself. I feel alive, this is the true Goliath in me. Maybe coming to this bar was a good idea, I need a break from hunting down that wretched family at times.
She extends her hand out to Lander and grasps it gently, her palm is soft and her fingers slender but the grip is firm and respectful. You notice a dark gray wooden ring on the pointer finder of her hand as she does.
"Yes that spell is one of the first I learned, it comes tremendously in handy keeping a household together! Now I'm not sure about you but its been some years since I partook in a game of chance with strangers, I think I might see if this old girls still got it."
She motions over to the tables she saw earlier, where folk are partaking in gambling games, and weighs the options of what she can play.
Fedex: The woman smiles warmly and stands a bit to straighten out her dress before sitting back down. She crosses one leg over the other and leans over the table toward you, her brown eyes are large and deep. "Welcome to my table Fedex, I'm Leona. Please do join me." Her eyes quickly flick over your shoulder, then back to you. As you turn to see what she was looking at, she grabs your hand and says quietly but firmly "No, don't look! Please... I... Look, there's this half-orc at the bar... He's been staring at me all night. I've been around the block enough times to know that stare when I see it. It's a dangerous one... I saw you and thought you looked.. safe. You remind me of my brother... Anyway, I thought we could get to know one another, maybe dance a little?" She says with a wink "And then you could escort me home? I don't want to walk alone tonight. Think you could help a girl out?" She still holds your hand in hers and she looks to you with her big brown eyes, awaiting your response.
With your Passive Perception score of 14, and your years of survival training, you're confident you could detect all but the very sneakiest attempts to blindside you at this table.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Maybe the sound of the bar and the mixture of bodies was confusing. I try once again to yell at the Human woman, who was now glancing at various other gambling tables. I yell again, trying even louder
Intimidation Check: 16
"Must I keep yelling, stop standing there and fetch me the strongest ale in the room!"
Lander smiles at Riona and gives a slight nod. "You go ahead. Before we were so rudely interrupted I had my heart set on a good meal. I'm gonna just sit for a minute and grab a bite to eat."
He searches out the barmaid from before and motions for her to come to his table. "Am I still able to get some Sheppard's Pie dearie?"
He puts his reading glasses back on and begins to read again.
