Elly doesn't recall whether or not she saw the spire coming in and figures it was just the ale she drank with her friends on her way in town. She stops by the tavern to say goodbye to her friends. Before going back to the group, she says a prayer to thank her deity for leading her to the right people.
{I am very excited y'all have reached a consensus minus the professor. If he doesn't post by the deadline I will begin the advancement of the party towards the spire ASAP}

{Sorry, was out all day at the WA ren faire, so didn't have internet, realizing now I should have let you know, still trying to catch up on all these posts}
The professor finally snaps out of whatever daze he was in, and hurriedly follows as if nothing was amiss.
"A spire? Oh yes of course. We should look into that. Did you notice that shop with the symbol of Azuth? Very interesting diety, Azuth..." <insert 15 minutes of random Azuth trivia powered by a religion roll of 24 >. I keep talking regardless of whether anyone is listening. This has probably been going on for some time concurrent with other discussions/events.
Noticing the spire is directly behind the general goods store but at some distance, close enough to see the blackness of the stone it's composed it's still far enough away obscured by the dense forest canopy it will take Shadow's make to reach the place where you assume it's located. How do you proceed?

"He stopped contacting me about a month ago, I make better time traveling so I'd guess i'm only 3-4 days behind him at this point. He probably came here from the promise of untold riches, like most of ye did. I suggest me and this big fella lead the way" I say gesturing to Kohl.
Thrilled to have found another person knowledgeable on such topics, I disregard everyone else and focus on discussing minute theological details with Elly, regardless of whether she is actually still engaging with me at this point. At the same time, I have my familiar fly up and get a bird's eye view, literally, of the surrounding area and in particular the spire. (I don't have it fly towards the tower, just focus it's attention that way).
Azuth if known as the God of Wizards a lesser deity who concerned himself with the advancement and preservation of the magical arts. Worshiped by all manner of spellcasters (and wizards particularly), the crafty deity acted as an adviser to the sitting deity of raw magic. Other deities found him crotchety, not understanding his dry wit or ceaseless dedication to collecting magical knowledge. Azuth most often appeared as a white-bearded man wearing elaborate, antique clothing and wielding the powerful, gem-topped staff.
I'll consult the map and reference the ally Elly pointed out. Unless there is obviously a better path I'll gesture the party towards the ally. I'll hang near the back of the group. "Professor, will you be coming with us? Anything we need to know about that shop in particular?"
{I'm carrying the map in a scrollcase and will consult it as needed or produce for anyone who asks for it. I'm not much of a trailblazer after all :) }
As the party debates about entering the magic shop or not the townspeople have noticed you collecting in a group outside Hobbs' shop. Some are now too anxious to approach and with Hobbs himself expecting regulars that are late comes out onto the street and notices all of you loitering. He then calls out, "if you need anything please do come in but if not to please move! You're gathering is blocking my front door," he exclaims next his tone firm but his expression friendly.

"looks like the alley would be the easiest way to proceed without needing to drag any locals into this" said this before i had the map, i study it for a moment before heading to the easiest route. "no time to lose, lets move out lads! and Lady." i say with a nod to the cleric
As the group turns back towards the magic shop moving away from the general store they indeed see the alley that Elly noticed and points out on the map to Shadow. The alley seems to lead to a beaten path that disappears into the dark, ominous tree line giving very little visibility into the dense forest ahead!
As each of you pass the magic shop going into the alley narrow enough for only Elly and Gauldring to pass easily side by side, everyone roll a perception check!
{Signing off until tomorrow guys, thanks for a good day of adventuring. PM if there's any questions or problems with posting}
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(sorry, still getting used to the bursty nature of this)
"Of course I'm coming along my lad, wouldn't have it any other way." I say, only to Shadow, telepathically. (16 <-- if that is even, i say this out loud, if not i say it telepathically only to Shadow) ((if anyone is annoyed at me occasionally rolling dice to decide what I do, please let me know))
At the same time I telepathically redirect my familiar to swoop back down and into the shop, just on the off chance there is anything interesting inside. Once it does, I pause midstride and rest my hands on my cane to take a moment to see through it's eyes.

Elly- Gnome Cleric The Black Maze
To Gauldring "How long ago did your friend pass through here? Do you know why he'd have come here?"

Depending on my roll (whether or not I've heard of him), I either engage the professor in conversation, or I roll my eyes behind his back.

I point out that alley we saw by that abandoned magic shop to Shadow.
"Would this be a good way to go according to your map?"

Shadow hands the map to Gauldring...."well here's a path to the area, if you're leading the way it's probably best you keep that."
Noting the attention from the townsfolk "It seems we've wore out our welcome, best we get moving."
