”Has anyone gone inside to talk to the keeper about the star? And when you say the star is an artifact, you are speaking of a physical object and not a star in the sky? Can you describe this artifact?”
"And.. this Keeper of yours sends away the help and now refuses to help in your time of need? That sounds like the first place we should start then. Sorry for the barrage of questions, but we need to make sure we fill in all the holes before we go forward if we want to get this job done right. Can you tell us more about the Keeper? Who they are, where they're from, and more about their role in protecting the town?"

Meklit nodded along to her friend's questions, taking in the information given. "If possible, tell us about this artifact. It sounds like a powerful one, from the little you've said. We should know how to properly handle it, as to not cause further issues."

(Oh crap. Just realised Zef was the one who sent you guys the letter. I don't know why, but my brain replaced "goliath" with "orc" when reading about who sent you the letter. It doesn't change much but just wanted to let you guys know. Sorry about that.)
Zef sighs and rubs her eyes wearily. "The Keeper... where to begin with him. His name is Ralyx Mirimm, though I prefer to call him coward. He's been locked away in his manor for days now, only ever speaking to the people through a ridiculous sound pipe through his door. A pathetic man who refuses to help us and denies his responsibilities." She sneers as she describes Ralyx before letting out another exasperated sigh. "I do not know where he came from, I never bothered with the man. The moment I saw him, I knew he was bad news and I was right. When he became the Keeper, things started to go down hill. Money went missing and acolytes slowly dwindled in numbers until finally they were all gone. I don't know the specifics of his job, all I know is that he AND the acolytes are supposed to protect the Dark Star."
She takes a swig of her tankard before continuing to speak. "The Dark Star is an artifact that we don't know much of, its completely shrouded in secrets and mystery. Legend has it, that in ancient times, the Bright Queen herself granted us the Dark Star, an artifact capable of warding evil away from the town. It was given to the first Keeper of Galgarad, the leader of the town, and she gathered acolytes and secreted it away in a hidden shrine to the Luxone. None but the Keeper and the acolytes knew the true location of the Dark Star. I've tried to convince the coward to give me the star but he refuses to listen."
"The acolytes, when they were all dismissed by the coward, came to me with their concerns before leaving to Rosohna. But, as you know, that was months ago and none have heard from them since. I fear something must've happened on their way to the city."
Felix listens to the tale of woe. "So what happened to the Dark Star?" he asks Zef. "Has it been corrupted? And where can we find this... Keeper you speak of? I'm sure he can lead us to the Star." He pauses to clear his throat. "Listen, the Keeper may be a coward, but he is the only way that we can save your city. Please, take us to him."
(OOC: Is there any chance that the Keeper's name/family is familiar to Dimiter from his time in the capital?)
"Can you tell us more about the Dark Star itself? What reason did the Bright Queen have to give it to this small town? And what does it look like, if we are to try and recover it?" Dimiter listens to her explanation. "There are many dangers one might encounter between here and Rosohna, but none that would make the trip take months, no. However, we were told these zombie attacks were much more recent. Has anything else occurred between those two events?"

Dimiter History:9
"Like I said, the Dark Star is an artifact shrouded in secrets and mystery. We don't know why the Bright Queen would bring it here nor do we know what it looks like. All we know is what I've told you. Nothing in particular has happened between the disappearance of the acolytes and the hoard attacks. I do not think their disappearance and the hoard are related in any way other than, by their disappearance, the coward has neglected his duty to protect the Dark Star and thus it has somehow been corrupted... I believe the only way for the hoard attacks to stop is if we destroy the Dark Star but of course the only way to get the Dark Star is to convince the coward to hand it over."
Zef takes another swig from her tankard, slamming it down on the table with an amused smirk. "You are outsiders and well-known mercenaries. For whatever reason, the coward is absolutely terrified of the Bright Queen and so I believe you'll be able to convince him to give you the Star if you claim to have been sent from by the Queen herself. If you wish to find him, head to his manor. You passed it on the way here."
(Unfortunately, Dimiter cannot recall any information from Ralyx's name.)
"Thank you for your time, Zef." Hops tries to catch a whiff of whatever she's drinking, but gives up when he realizes it's nothing special.
"This sounds like a straightforward task. So naturally, it won't be." Turning to his companions, Hops says, "Anyone wanna bet the Keeper is already dead? 5 gold?" He takes a swig from his own flask and smacks his lips. "We should get on our way then. Dim, care to lead the way?"

Dimiter shrugs. "Dead would be the easiest option to deal with, so by your logic, I'd wager he's not."He adds, voice lowered slightly so the people of the village, especially Zef, can't hear, "Destroying the star might also cause more problems." He sighs as Hops asks him to lead the way, and turns back to Zef. "Did any of the acolytes leave any robes or holy symbols behind that we could use?"
(OOC: Did we discuss/did they offer reward for helping? Do we need to do that?)
"Given what Zef has told us about the Keeper and his shirking of responsibilities and his cowardice, I would wager that he is alive but unhelpful. The bright queen supposedly granted the artifact to the town to ward away evil. Perhaps the keeper has failed to use the artifact properly to ward off these undead. The Bright Queen would not have granted a powerful artifact to a small town so deep in country unless there was a good reason it would need such magical defenses. We should think long and hard before we destroy this dark star if we even can. I think we should go to the door of the keeper's house and 'convince' him to open the door for us...or just 'convince' the door to open without his say so."
(Payment was given in advance. When you guys got the letter, it came with "a small pouch of gold pieces and various sundry trinkets." If you want to discuss further payment, you can.)
Zef shrugs at Dimiter. "I wouldn't know, you'd need to ask the coward that."
"Shall we head over to the Keeper's house to see what we can find out? Would should make hay while the sun is shining, I think. Night fall will bring problems."
Felix listens to all of this intently. "Yes, let us go to the Keeper's," he suggests to the group. "Remember what they said -- that this town might not survive another night. We need to act quickly. Time is running out -- for us as well as for them."
"There are many reasons for someone to start behaving oddly, especially with someone so close to a magical item." Meklit grumbled. "We shouldn't rush talking to him. If first comes to worst, some of us can leave and start preparing the defenses."

"Oh, so they lived in the manor also then? I was hoping one or two of us could pretend to be replacements." He shrugs. "Nothing for it then a direct approach, then, I guess."
"You're welcome to babysit the townsfolk, Mekky. Again." Hops gives a mischievous smirk. "Who knows? Perhaps this coward will share some of his cowardly advice on defenses. If the manor is in such good shape, perhaps we can figure how he keeps it as such and use that knowledge the protect the rest of these fine folks."
"I would think you would want to spend more time with the townsfolk, Hops. You do enjoy cracking open one of their casks."Meklit responded. As they walked to the manor, the genasi kept an eye out for anything odd. Or rather, anything odder and more magical than they've seen already.
