Taravan hasn't said much to the group. She has been too distracted looking at the coffee maker and trying to figure out how it works. Taraven is only partially listening. OOC: Would anything catch my attention in the Dwarven conversation? I do not know dwarvish
OOC: If she was listening and made the DC 10 perception , or has a 15 passive perception, she would at least overhear a word similar to Tiefling, but the rest would be incomprehensible to her, if she does not speak Dwarven.
Taravan, examining the coffee maker, roll a DC 10 Arcana check to understand the device.
Taraven is unable to make out much in the conversation, given that she does not know the language, the sounds are just distant guttural gibberish to her.
Examining the complex coffee maker proves more fruitful. You discern that it functions with a combination of simple mechanics and physics, along with a permanent cantrip level heating magic imbued into the device, a separate cantrip level spell for self cleaning purposes, and a small lever at the side keyed in to some internal mechanism you cannot decipher without dismantling the device that apparently can set the strength of the coffee to fit the desired setting. It is a fairly ingenious design that likely was the work of a skilled artificer, although the construction of this individual unit was likely done on an assembly line of hired magewrights and constructs. The "Made in Breland" label proudly hails its origins.
The dwarves clearly splurged on this, as it, and the single bottle of high end dwarven whisky in the cabinet are the only things of significant value in the saloon section of the trading post.
I take out my notebook and vigorously write down notes and questions about what I examined on the coffee maker while I wait with the rest of the party for Okkar.
OOC: I did not get a notebook or some sort if journal at character creation. Can I retroactively get one? Also how would I keep track of ink and all that?

OOC: I did not get a notebook or some sort if journal at character creation. Can I retroactively get one? Also how would I keep track of ink and all that?
OOC: You could purchase one with gold and say you bought it earlier and deduct it from your 320 starting gold. Due to mass production in the setting, if you came from an urban area you can buy a notebook for the cost of 5 sheets of parchment paper, and cost for a pen and ink is 1/2 the PHB prices.
For the purposes of the campaign, you will have "enough paper" and "enough ink," from this purchase, unless a circumstance involves the character writing a novel-length amount of next or images.
Hidden away, I transform myself into an old dwarven woman using my Hat of disguise, then renter the tavern.
Roll Deception, with Advantage, to act the part. Note that your character does not speak Dwarven, and may not be familiar with the customs of the region.
OOC: What is her agenda with this action, for clarity?
To Taravan, in elvish: "do you speak elvish?

In Elvish, "I certainly do. Do you have any idea what they are talking about?"
In elvish: "No. But if everyone speaks elvish, then we might have the advantage."

I sit down, begin humming to myself, and etch the symbol of Lliira into the table with my dagger.

Kerina notes the table she is carving at includes a phrase in common, "That gold fever makes me sweat," as well as a crude depiction of fornication.
Kerina leaves the inn under the excuse that "I need some fresh air" and attempts to find a hidden spot where she will not be seen.

OOC: The final party member should be joining soon, they have completed their character, with a slight tweak for party balance purposes.

Roll Deception if she actually is concerned about how her exit is perceived, we will compare it vs party member's passive Insight scores.
Roll Stealth to find a hiding spot. We will compare it to PC and NPC passive Perception scores in this case for simplicity.

The elf woman seemed genuinely uncomfortable in the cramped and dusty room, when she excused herself. She is nowhere to be seen.
