The goal was simple. Investigate the disappearance of the hobgoblin company deep in the Vilderlund Jungle. A decent sized retinue of 2 hobgoblin brothers, their offspring, their retainers, slaves and some independent contractors.
The eccentric lizardfolk Shrive along with the gnoll (Matthew M Gorman) guided the large group effortlessly through the natural hazards that overtake any path or road attempted through the jungle. Alas, some perils though are unavoidable.
Commander Vorthal Boz'Regar began losing complete control of his disposition upon having to relinquish all slaves to a impressive Naga beast. Initially pushing for conflict, her was persuaded by his brother Brego Vo'Regar that any fight would likely result in the loss of the slaves AND abled bodies anyway. The rustle of more large serpentine bodies through the surrounding jungle echoed the danger, and Vorthal's Yuan-Ti slaves were handed over to the hungry Naga.
It was only an hour later before Uhlaash, Yuan-Ti slave and emissary for great General Ghoal reentered the party almost seemlessly. It was hard for anyone to tell when she actually returned. But there was little time as the group was beset by an aerial attack from the loaming treetops anywhere from 40 to 100 feet above. Missiles rained down, slaying many of the slaves without armor and even some of the pit fighter muscle slaves as well. The latter loss weighed heavy on their owner Brego, and both his Pit Master Frezigh and Commander Vorthal were ill tempered by the loss.
The final straw broke when Xirta and Xealy started to question their uncle's orders and directions. Having more notoriety and acclaim than their uncle, their condescension sent him into a tirade. Both niece and nephew returned the disdain back into their Uncle's face, with their father Brego decidedly not willing to entertain infighting with children. The chide wasn't lost on Vorthal, but the party was so enwrapped in the conflict that none seemed to notice the earth shaking beneath their feet.
Suddenly the jungle exploded as many large armored reptillian beasts rampaged through the group. It was all anyone could do to avoid thunderous footfalls and swinging tails that hit like battering rams. The goblin medical party was dragging handfuls of other goblins and a gnoll slave towards safety and begin bandaging each other.
Then a seemingly scared member of the reptillian band balked as Fezigh used his whip at great effect. This seemed to corale the party until a HUGE sized version of the beast tore through the trees to rush to her offsprings aid. Fezigh dodged away and stood facing the mother and child, his back towards the direction the stampede entered the group. Obviously outmatched, the dragonborn got some help from his patron, and Brego cracked his knuckles and magic began springing from his fingers. As he was uttering the last phrase of his spell, the words were lost as a enormous carnivorous thunder lizard snapped its toothy maw, taking a bite out of the hobgoblin celebrity. Brego's head, chest, and left arm were missing as his corpse fell to the ground. As a second of the monstrous dinosaurs entered the encampment, everyone ran.
It was hard to tell between the chaos and destruction where everyone went, but every direction was used for escape. A few were stopped at the edge of a cliff, only to turn around and find the mother dinosaur similarly retreating their direction with a Tyrannosaurus in tow. The combined weight caused the cliff side to crumble, catching the mother ankylosaurus and the group to rapidly descend down a mudslide to the bottom some couple hundred meters below.
Tired and exhausted, the party awakes in the shade. Above their heads, the huge ankylosaur is empailed upon a small handful of trees, suspended over them. Some time has passed as the gore has stopped running down the trunks. It is mid day, and the party finds themselves together, a mismatched group, to face the wilds of Vilderlund Jungle.
