Interest check on a unique RP driven homebrew Norse/Celtic mythologies based campaign.
This is a human-dominated low arcane magic users world. LOTS Norse/Celtic mythology for setting/monsters while using DnD basic rules. Homebrew restrictions on races and class breakdowns as follows. Races have class restrictions. Arcane magic is banned from public use. Human/dwarves are restricted to non-arcane based classes of barbarian, druid, fighter, cleric/paladin, or ranger. There are very rare cases for humans wielding arcane magic but they are seen as lunatics/unnatural and are killed/driven form their human societies. However 'magical races' are very low in populations. These are elves, half-elves {extremely rare; taboo}, gnome, and/or halfling. These races can be arcane users or any other class but are not welcome in human-dominated areas. They keep to themselves have little interest in adventuring outside their protected areas ALL base far outside human-dominated areas. These largely human-dominated tribal-based societies are constantly fighting each other for power and land. They are extremely suspicious of 'old magic' and 'magic wielders races' basically ALL non-humans, save dwarves who are the only race that moves freely among humans due to their abilities to craft and fight, are excluded from the society of humans. If an arcane magic user from the 'magic races' is found they are captured/kill/driven out. If they use arcane magic in front of most humans they would be killed. All-natural and divine magic are allowed however within limits of the pantheon that's a homebrewed Norse/Celtic blend. ALL magic is learned by study or a teacher e.i. ALL spells are gained by learning from found texts or taught by another PC/user to the PC. Player's will need to RP A LOT with multi-post commitment a day. PC selection will be based on character submission, timezone, and post commitment. DM is CST based. There will be low combat in this campaign. There will be skirmishes taking place within a much larger overarching story mostly against other NPCs/monsters but the campaign is mostly exploring/adventuring the game setting. The game will take PCs from starting level 3 through to level 20; multi-classing would be allowed but restricted by race exposure to the other class and RP based learning the other class. Level progression is homebrew based XP points gained from contributions to party skill challenges, puzzle-solving, but largely RP based contributions to the overall story we're telling.
Does that sound like you?

Sometimes a Nat 1 tells a better story than a Nat 20 ever could.
There are a lot of restrictions, but there will always have to be with a low magic setting, since... well, half the classes in D&D have magic built into them. I really like the premise, though, and while I know only a little about Celtic Mythology, I'm a big fan of Norse Mythology. I also recently cut down on my discord PbPs, and I've got nothing here, so I feel like I could post multiple times a day most days. Unless something comes up out of the blue in real life, of course, you can't really control that.

This definitely is an interesting premise. I'd be keen to play as either a barbarian (Storm Herald - going with Norse Mythology perhaps) or fighter (Battle Master). I'm based in Australia, but can usually post several times a day during our daytime hours, therefore your nights.
I would be totally up for this. a character idea just sparked my imagination. an arcana cleric who hides his use of the old ways or "rune magic" and pretends to serve a deity of light while actually serving a deity of magic? I am a big lover of norse mythology, and I love runes. I have listened to the "Poetic Edda" which is the largest collection of sagas in old norse, and I have done a bit of old English as well. in England rn and will totally be able to post at least 3/4 times a day. I live in Canada but was on a trip for my dads work in Newcastle for 6 months.
like @WoobyDoobyDoo I don't know a tonne about Celtic mythology, but I do know some history on the Celts and the roman occupation, and if something comes up irl I won't be able to help with that. but lockdown has really freed me up.
count me in :-)
Edit: we will be back in Canada at the end of July
We've already talked by PM but I just wanted to register my interest in the formal way. I have a Celtic based paladin I would love to play again who I think would fit well in this campaign. I can post multiple times a day and I'm also in CST.

Thank you to everyone rating their interest. I am still working on the fusion of the world and fleshing out the story elements. I will contact folks when I am ready to run the game. Thank you!
PS park a character here if you're interested but know the pantheon is going to be based of Celtic/Norse gods and their attributes not essential the Gods and Goddesses already known historically.

Just posting my character, already posted interest earlier, but just giving you an idea of character here.
Name: Hjulmin Stormstout Race: Mountain Dwarf Class: Barbarian (looking at either Storm Herald or Zealot) Backstory: Hjulmin has dreams of greatness, both as a warrior and a brewer of ales. He loves a good drink, especially his Stormstout Ale, and will happily tell people about his brew. He saved his family's farm from marauders, killing a number of them in a rage. A town elder, seeing this, led him down the path of a barbarian, teaching him the basics of fighting and encouraging his dream of greatness in battle.
Race/Class: Half-elf(hear me out now) Paladin(gonna go ancients or watchers)
As a young child, Leif reportedly lost both his ears when a savage band of elves attacked his mother's tribe. They took his ears as a trophy while he was still alive, so he could feel the pain, and were going to kill him when his father courageously sacrificed himself to get baby Leif to his mother, who ran to a nearby tribe with him. Since he first learned this story, Leif has hated all elf-kind with a burning passion, training under those who specifically hunt down those vile magical races. The truth, however, is that Leif did not lose his ears to elves. In fact, elves were the only reason he had ears in the first place, for he is half-elf. His mother was cast out of the tribe for birthing him, as he was proof that she had been... er... "fraternizing" with elves. It was she who wielded the knife and removed his ears, to prevent him and his mother from being cast out again or killed. She dares not tell him the truth now, for fear of what he would do to her or himself, so she must watch as he hunts the very thing that he is.

Hey there! This looks really sweet. I'm a heathen myself, so I know the Norse culture inside out. Coming up with a character idea now:)
I played in a campaign with similar setting ala "alternate earth" The theme is nice.

I didn’t see monk listed in the acceptable classes but was wondering about a drunken monk dwarf.
Any updates on how this is going?
