Everyone had fallen asleep... no, not everyone. The one who had given her the wooden coin was still awake. She could tell by his breathing. She was intrigued by this. She quietly got up and crept over to Elaine, an impish smile on her lips. She slowly, carefully placed the rattly thing in between her breasts. So much for your alarm, she thought. As she stood back up, Elaine rolled over in her sleep, nearly catching Rey in a... hug? Then the girl mumbled "m'love" and she was back to sleep. This also intrigued Rey. She'd use this bit of info later.
She quietly made her way over to the one who had given her the wooden coin, not caring if he saw her. She was careful not to wake the sleeping dragonborn. That would be dangerous, especially with her cough. She regarded the monk a moment, her milky white eyes appearing to look him over, then she crouched next to him, twirling the wooden coin between her fingers. She looked at the door a moment, then leaned in to whisper, "Needs a window."

Stone maintains his unwavering vigil as Rey joins him. "So the Shadow yearns for Light she does not know?" The monk leaves the question in the air as a literal and metaphorical quandary as the last few hours of night slip into dawn.

Once the immediate fear of death subsided, exhaustion takes over, though your thoughts and dreams are troubled and rest is fitful.
In your mind, you see the forboding shadow of House Crain, high atop its hill, its pointed central tower jutting out like the hour hand of a clock - tick, tick, tick as the hours pass. As the moon glides across the sky, the shadow marks 10, then 11, then...
BANG! BANG! BANG!
You startle aware. Was that the machinations of another strange and foreign device? No, your mind says. Someone's knocking hard at the door.

Rey instantly had her daggers in hand. She crouched, ready to strike if need be, and silently moved to the side of the door. If something came bursting through, she'd be ready to attack.
Sorasuna jumps to her feet at the sound, fists ready to fisticuff the fool who dares try to sneak attack her. After the third bang, she realizes it was a knock. She stands tall and calls out to the other side of the door, "Who is it?" Unconsciously, her hand hovers over her sword hilt.

"It's Fergus, the ostler," he replies, still raising his voice to be heard through the door. "Back from selling me goods in Thorngate. What the hell happened here? And who is this???"
Orel is sound asleep, unfazed by the loud and obnoxious banging at the door. His shield in his lap and his flail still in hand, it isn't until a man's voice is heard when he finally wakes. As before, there is deep breath with a large intake of air. Was he even breathing in his sleep?
He opens his eyes quickly and slides up, back against the wall with shield and weapon in hand. "Hold a moment!" He calls to the voice.
He looks to the others and says, "Open the door. A living voice is a welcome thing..."
"Oh, a friendly voice!" Sorasuna cries out despite the man's voice raising. She swings the door fully open, but stays in the way of the frame in case the man in dangerous. "I'm Sorasuna of the Sands... We are just as lost as you when it comes to this situation. Bats, some of the brainy ones say."

As soon as the door swings wide, Stone lunges like a tiger and grabs the man's outerwear by the shoulder with his left hand. As his right hand falls to the dagger at his hip, Stone gives a wrenching twist to his left and pulls the man off balance, then off his feet. Stone waits for Sorasuna's greeting to finish before he draws the long, curved knife and hangs it over the newcomer's neck, "A man does not walk unphased through a field of slaughter unless he is a butcher or scavenger. Which are you?" The elf's emotionless eyes and level tone demand answers, but seem oddly out of place with the currently threatening posture.

Rey slid out the door, prepared to threaten this person with her daggers, but apparently Stone had this handled. She remained half crouched, and ready to attack if things went sideways. "You'd best answer him. He's a vicious one, likely to lop off your head just because he doesn't like the way you look. Me? I personally don't care how you look. So, tell me, you here to loot some bodies and ransack some houses?"
As she stood firmly in front of the doorway, Sorasuna suddenly felt the monk move to get past her and adjusted her weight somewhat to let him through. However, as Rey slid past her as well Sorasuna lost her sense of balance and fell forward right onto Fergus. The excitement and sensation of falling caused her to hack and wheeze on her way down, leaving behind large billows of black smoke in her wake. They tumbled to the ground, possibly taking Rey and Stone down with them. "Apologies!"

Orel watched the scene at the door with slight amusement. These strangers seemed to know their way around a fight, or at least they acted as if they did. He scratched their paranoid behavior off on account to the situation. It was good to be cautious, but there was no reason to immediately set yourself upon threatening behavior. Sometimes honey works better when you're trying to get information. As the dragonborn stumbled and fell, he let off a slight chuckle. Maybe not all that experienced? He was curious how the scene would play out, so he merely watched, back against the wall.
Rey went from threatening the man Fergus, to being under a dragonborn. It wasn't as pleasant as one would expect. "Please," Rey wheezed. "I can't breathe."
Sorasuna heard the plea from the elf and scrambled to her feet, apologizing a million times over. Her coughing fit from the fall left a light fog over them. Sorasuna waved her hand, hoping to dissipate it. She immediately noticed Stone's leg had taken a large brunt of the fall. "Are you alright!?" Sorasuna put a hand out toward Rey, hoping to help the elf back to her feet and steady herself in case the smog was still too dense.

Elaine awoke to find... Well, she would certainly have to give Thief Reycaryn a talk when she got the chance. She had to admire the elven woman's pluck, and skill. But there was a more pressing issue pounding at their door.
She was slow to rise, and found that the elves and dragonborn had managed to bungle the whole situation.
