Katernin, "Weasel, hi!" Katernin says as she tries her best to make space away from the puddle, "there was a bad storm last night. Took off half the roof," she laughs a little. "When I came out to survey the damage I saw the shipwreck and brought them up here. After we get the roof underway I'm going to go back down and do what I can to prepare the bodies for a burial. Not sure where I'm going to bury them though..."
"Only one cemetery in town. Trouble is, you might want to leave th' bodies for Brinehanded's novitiates at th' Procan temple. They get kind of particular about shipwrecks an' dead sailors. You don't want to get on their bad side, beatin' them to th' rituals. They're our neighbors, you know. Don' need bad blood with them," lectures Weasel.
"Ya... you're right,"Katernin says, "Don't know what I'd do if you weren't around to tell me! I should probably go tell them about the shipwreck... after we finish with the roof," she adds, looking through the hole.
The young lad stands up, feeling much more perky after getting some warm food in his belly. He shyly approaches the strange lady priestess and asks, "Can I help? I've no real knowledge of thatch and how to fix it but I've plenty of experience of climbing walls and being up high, so if you point me where to go and what to do I'll do my bit. I'm also the lightest here so the least likely to fall through the roof where it's half collapsed."
At least I can put my experiences with second storey work to use here and maybe pay this lady back for her accommodation. And some work might help get the deep chill out of my bones too. Must not forget about that case either, though I think I'll leave it till tomorrow when I'm less tired. I guess that dragon-creature and the halfling are probably as light as me, but no harm in playing up my waif-and-stray angle for the moment.
Feeling much more comfortable with dry clothes and a full belly, Kelnan rises. "Lovely to meet you Ms Weasel. I'm not much of a tradesman, but I'm happy to help with the roof as best I can. Might you direct us to an inn first though? A quiet room would do us well."
"Just need a cheap place to bunk?" asks Weasel as she picks her teeth. "Talk t' Marnie at the Mariners’ Guildhall - right at the bottom of th' hill, here. I think she still charges one silver a night with board. If yer lookin' for something fancier, there's couple o' proper inns downtown. There's the Snapping Line - they got a spirit made from lobster meat and potatoes called 'claw wine' - pretty tasty stuff. Anyway they got rooms an' stuff upstairs. You folks got any money?"
She shores up Lucky's offer. "Go get some rest, boy. Come back tomorrow and ye' can help."
"Ya," Katernin, "if I have some free time today I'll go back down to the beach and see if there's any more of your stuff that turns up. Books, equipment, money..." she trails off, "if you need money for the day I can give you some... I should probably go tell the Procan temple about the shipwreck..."
Kelnan coughs. "I'll cover the night, it's the least I can do to use the slaver's money for some good. You lot pick the spot, if you've got a taste for lobster wine that's fine. Katernin, I'll join you this afternoon on the beach after I've had a chance to rest. But if you come across a locker with a horse carved in the top, I'd appreciate knowing before someone breaks it open and wrecks what the sea may have spared."
Until the group is ready to move on, Kelnan studies the thatch to try to work out how it's done. He's not much of a laborer, but the engineering of it is interesting.
"We could all use some rest. But I fear if we wait til we sleep that all the salvageable goods will be picked clean by the locals," Fianna says wearily. "I don't know the right answer... And I am a bit biased since I did get my stuff back, and you're looking to buy us off with slaver coin..."

"Your stuff worth four gold? Ye' got that much on you? I got an idea. Tell 'ye what," proposes Weasel. "The Carpenter's Guildhall is at th' bottom of the hill here - I'll point it out. One o' ye' go down there, and tell Jilar - that's the boss - ye' need to hire out Gretel and Dinah. Today. Nobody else, right? Gretel and Dinah. Don't let her charge ye' more than four gold. Bring 'em back up here - tell 'em Weasel needs them. Then I'll take turns with them guardin' the beach, or lookin' for whatever ye' want. Come t' think of it, Jilar might want some o' that wood down there, assumin' ye' don't want that - that might sweeten the deal. But anyway, we'll guard the site, lookin' fer stuff, whatever. And they'll fix the roof, too. And you guys can go rest somewhere dry. Whaddya think?"
”We will deliver this message. Are there any conditions? Requests? Do you desire a large body count for this, or would you rather a stealthy approach? In and out, quick and quiet as shadows? ... maybe some of both?”
Reed puts his hand on the kobolds shoulder. We can probably handle this one without any killing...just leave the talkin' to me. He looks at Weasel. Sorry, he gets a mite...excitable. We'll go talk to the guild and go get some rest. Appreciate the kindness.

Back and ready to DM and chew bubblegum. And I'm alllll outta bubblegum.
The young boy is torn. He had a stash of nearly one hundred coins of gold hidden on that ship. People had died earning that gold. Friends of his. Well, if young sewer-rats from the city ever had true friends, that is. He dearly wants to go back to the beach and look for it, but he is fairly convinced it would never survive the shipwreck and even if it had, the old, tattered and worn leather pouch the stash was in had probably been ripped to pieces and the gold scattered to the four tides by now.
The bunk house sounds lovely, but of course he has no coins at all left now. And these people are understandably mad at him because he worked on the ship and they were slaves on it. Even if they have no ideas of the miserable set of circumstances which led him to be a cabin boy on a slave vessel. And I need a rest to calm my shaking hands and unfog my mind so I can have a proper look at this chest too, he reminded himself.
Lucky looks at Reed and Kelnan (who he still thinks of as Pointy, the crew's nickname for him). "I'd like to come along, sirs. But I have no coin to pay for lodgings. Mine was lost in the wreckage. I'll pay you back when I come into some money though, I promise."
Kelnan can't read Weasel. Her affect appears to be all business.
Weasel leads you outside where from your hilltop vantage you have an excellent view of the town of Saltmarsh. She points out a few landmarks (see partial map, below): 31. Katernin's shrine (you are here) 21. Mariners’ Guildhall (cheap lodging) 23. Carpenters’ Guildhall (Where Gretel and Dinah work) 26. Temple of Procan (seem to have a monopoly on last rites for the dead on the beach) The shipwreck is just off the map to the east ("up" on the map; north is left.) The Snapping Line is further downtown (west or down, off the map)
Capt. Reed leads a contingent down to the Carpenter's Guild (correct?) to fetch the two carpenters. (Who's with him?)
“Well why don’t we pay for the watchers and then all sleep for the night and get up at dawn. At dawn we can examine what the tide brought in, try to argue with whatever scavengers come out of need be?” Fianna suggests. “We are all still tired and bedraggled and even if these watchers don’t do their jobs at least we’ll get some sleep and be no worse off than now except a few coins... I say we do such and all go get the lodgings got the night.”

(Yes, it's still morning. But you can assume with resting and eating in the Shrine you have taken a Short Rest. While you still suffer from Exhaustion, you make take a hit die if you like, otherwise you are still at 2 hit points.)
