In the middle of a thick dense jungle lies a wide clearing where not even grass grows. In the centre of this barren land lies the mouth of a great cavern made of jagged rock gaping hungrily at the sky. The purple stone is sharp as swords and the chasm itself is like a void to destruction...
A party of warriors gear up to enter the dungeon in which the fabled treasure of the city of gods lies hidden. This treasure contains innumerable gems and gold coins. But many of the warriors are in for either the powerfull weapons or mystic artefacts. But what drives their ambition is yet to be found...

The product of a night of passion between a bar maid and a sailor, Quin grew up running the streets of (insert port city here). Abandoned by his father and trained by his mother Quin quickly developed a perceptive eye for spotting marks. Learning to pick pockets from a fellow urchin was both boon and bust. His skills allow him to provide for himself but unfortunately they are the also the reason he must now travel. One night as retribution against a handsey sea captain that had been pawing at his mother he brazenly decided to alleviate the cad of his coin. Failing in his misguided attempt Quin was forced to flee and seek his fortune out in the wider world.
Human (variant, Dual Weilder feat) barbarian, created by point buy.
This is the existing backstory, but I can update as needed based on PM:
Brin's clan roams the northern coast. He is a nephew of the chief and a durable and fierce warrior, able to live well in a cold and hostile land. He doesn't think he looks for fights, but he ends up in more than his share of them. When his tribe welcomed visitors from a strong neighboring clan to discuss an alliance, Brin insulted their leader by accidentally mispronouncing his name (to be fair, it sounded pretty similar to "milkmaid"), then made the offense mortal by laughing in the man's face when called out about it. He managed to slay both visitors in the brawl, but his uncle, who was interested in the match and not wanting a feud, was not pleased. That night, Brin was ambushed and beaten unconscious. He spent a few days trussed up and blindfolded, and woke up, head and beard shaven, across the sea. He saw more people the next five minutes than he'd seen in his entire life. He is adventuring to prepare for a return to his home for a reckoning, and he keeps his head shaved (usually a sign of shame in his people) as a reminder of why he is not there now.

Brenna grew up in a small town called Blackwood a few days east of one the larger cities in the region. At the age of 5 she took the liking of reading and imaging the world around her as she learned more and more from books. Three years later she started showing small signs of being even more special. Her parents knew that they could not let her lust for knowledge and her special abilities be wasted in a small town being a farm girl.
They had sent letters to the scholars in the big city and although it didn't happen often, they came by to see Brenna. She was special indeed, at the age of 8 no less. She was taken in and her parents moved with her to the big city. Where the parents lived on the outskirts of town Brenna lived on the campus, reading for days, months and years! She learned to develop her skills, keeping close to her parents but also spending a lot of time on campus. She worked in her free time at the campus, everything to gain more and more acces to books and knowledge.
At the age of 17 she overheard something about an expedition. The scholars thought long and hard but Brenna did not gave up. All the things she learned she had to start using in life to be able to even learn more. So it was decided... Brenna went on her very first expedition.
As the party approaches the cave's entrance an orc, it's mouth dripping with gore, is thrown out of the cave where it falls 10ft in front of them, slightly dazed but quickly getting his bearings...
