Having spent the major portion of his life studying the Arcane Arts, Symon felt it was time to make his way in the world. Having studied with a reclusive mage in a remote tower in the mountains north of Sunswall, Symon was beginning to feel restless, confined and just a bit affected by 'Tower Fever'. So when the Mayor Vernfox Tailman's note arrived, Symon was more than a bit intrigued, he was delighted for the excuse it provided him to impel his entrance into the world beyond the tower. He was a little piqued by the platinum coin, but just a little, as he expected his talents to reap him much larger rewards; after all it is: Symon Twist, Wizard.
Symon thinks of himself as a 'Wizard,' not the more mundane sounding 'mage,' and always so refers to himself. He is not only skilled in thaumaturgy, as well he is skilled in the alchemical arts and herbalism. A couple of his specialties are 'Explosive Beads' and 'Tangler Grenades', which he hopes will be useful in the coming challenge.
Master Balon, who is getting quite deaf, and stinky if truth be told, did not seem too put out when Symon told him of the letter, "Always knew you were bound to leave sooner or later," was the gist of his feelings on the subject. Master Balon had always treated Symon well, knew he was a bright student, though not perhaps as bright as Symon thought himself to be; his teaching was done with patience and thoroughness - politely demanding would be a good way to describe his style. Master Balon would have said, had he been asked, that Symon was a 'well rounded practitioner of the Arts,' just a bit above average, but with great potential.
Mari Klost, the cook/housekeeper who took care of the more mundane affairs of the tower, would have, and did on many occasion to Symon himself, that he was a bit of a snob, had a rather high opinion of himself (he does), and was a bit standoffish. But for all that she was able to tolerate him without too much friction.
Symon Twist had never thought about his bravery and the thought of investigating violent 'natives' running amuck didn't cause him to lose any sleep, after all he was: Symon Twist, Wizard. Mud grubbing cannibals should be concerned about him!
And so, off into the sunset, actually alongside of it as he is going south, Symon Twist set out for the adventures awaiting him in Sunswall and...what was the name of that place? ah, yes, Amzu. Strange name.
I'd like to give this a go, but I am unclear about the rules for rolling abilities. You said roll for stats and re-roll 1s once, but I see that most people have rolled 4d6, re-rolled 1s once and then kept the best 3. Is this what you intended, or did you just want 3d6 and re-roll 1s once?

Jaden is a member of a noble family from a peaceful country that lies not too far from Amzu. While being of noble birth, it is Jaden's eldest brother who holds the title and Jaden has many brothers and sisters with greater claims to the title than he. Jaden has therefore gone his own way to make his own name in the world.
Gifted with good physical abilities, Jaden was well suited to the training he received in arms as a noble. However, with his own country at peace, a commission in the army seemed to be no more than the means to gain access to the court parties that Jaden despised. Jaden therefore chose to join a mercenary company, Blackfeathers Own Men-At-Arms, and has since worked in numerous countries for that company and gained something of a reputation for getting things done.
Recently, however, things have changed for Jaden and he has left Blackfeather's with the intent of forming his own mercenary group. He sees this opportunity in Amzu as the means to do this, hoping to find potential recruits in the process of helping the people of Sunswall.
Notable people:
Jaden's Maternal grandmother: Lady Elise Haswell
Born of wealth, Elise Haswell was married off young for political reasons. After providing her husband with a number of children, including a suitable heir, Elise was left very much to her own devices while her husband involved himself in politics. As a result of this, she spent her time in her husband's library and through her reading and further acquisition of rare books taught herself arcane magick and found she had a knack for it.
A knack which she seems to share with her youngest grandson, Jaden, who—despite his active military lifestyle—also loves books and is rarely without one to read in quiet moments. Between campaigns, Jaden often visits with his grandmother who delights in helping him find new areas of interest for his reading and recently has started teaching him some of her arcane knowledge.
Jaden's Former Employer: Abel Blackfeather
Abel Blackfeather is the leader of the group of mercenaries known as Blackfeather's Own Men-At-Arms. He is ex-military and now in his senior years. Jaden was being groomed as his possible successor because Blackfeather saw a lot of promise in the level-headed young man. Unfortunately, this all changed when Blackfeather started taking jobs that Jaden couldn't condone as a noble and the two had a falling out. Jaden was henceforth thrown out of the company and there is now bad blood between the two of them.
Jaden's Response to the Letter:
-- Letter to Mayor Tailman
Dear Mayor Tailman.
I thank you for your letter of opportunity, which comes at a most opportune time for my own circumstances.
I hereby accept your offer, and the token of future payment that accompanied it, and will make my way to Sunswall with the utmost speed where I believe my experience as a leader of men will be of great assistance in setting up a solid defence against the incursions you have been experiencing.
No doubt you have heard about my recent parting of ways with my previous employer, but let me assure you that what you have heard is mostly hearsay and I look forward to the opportunity of proving myself to you in whatever capacity I can.

Cool. Thanks. And I just saw the DM's footer confirming this... Looks sheepish.
