Brother Maynard injured himself while patrolling the fence line about a month ago. At first, it looked like he would heal. But in the coming weeks there developed some form of jungle rot. It was slow, it was painful. And worse yet, there didn’t appear to be a cure.
Uncle Ningle tried his best. The dwarves tried all of their native concoctions, to no avail. Brother Maynard began to slip away.
Towards the end, his new friends placed him in a cart and had Dawn Ald tow Brother Maynard to the Temple of Lathander. It was there he finally gave up his spirit.
(Thank you all for the adventure. I hope you all will remember Brother Maynard. That dumpy, old cleric. What was he doing outside of the church grounds anyway? Hope to adventure with you all again, in another life.)
Uncle Ningle is saddened by the loss of Brother Maynard, and puzzled by the ineffectiveness of healing magic. He suggests that the soul monger might be up and running again.
Uncle Ningle also tells you he was finally able to make contact with Kimo the Merchant who ran into a lich in the Jungle. He was totally off the grid as a “guest” of Valindra Shadowmantle, a powerful Red Wizard of Thay, somewhere beyond the range of Ningle’s sending spells. Now Kimo is actually stuck in nation of Thay and is trying to escape without angering his new employers.
Ningle tells you that Kimo was forced to help the Red Wizards of Thay salvage the “soul forge” artifact. However, being the persuasive guy that Kimo is, he got them to use their new power to direct all the undead away from Port Nyanzaru for the foreseeable future. So, we shouldn’t have to worry about undead hordes attacking the farm for a while. Unfortunately, it seems like power of the soul forge has some side effects.
Kimo suspects he will be stuck in Thay for a while. He encourages you all to make the best use of the farm and maybe try to win at the races or just enjoy the town.
