“They have been pulling more gems and silver out of that jungle down in Chult than you could believe!”
”It's how that Oceanic trading company got started, and now I hear they have shops and own property in every major port along the Sword Coast.”
“Since the Oceanic Trading Company appeared out of nowhere at Port Nyanzaru, with the heads of three pirate captains hanging from the figurehead of their flagship, they have been they power in these waters.”
“I hear they are always getting ready for the next expedition into the jungle. If you want a job, look for their sign in the warehouse district, a wooden ship floating on ocean waves.”
These unconfirmed rumors have been floating around the taverns and ale houses of Port Nyanzaru. Some rumors have even made it to the Sword Coast.
Out Of Character (OOC): recruiting 1st level adventurers to join a small expedition preparing to enter the jungle. I also need someone to help me with technical issues running the game. I started playing DnD with pencil and paper more than 30 years ago, but this is my first time as a Play by Post game master, so I am definitely looking for helpful people to join this thread. Thanks.
I'd love to join! I'm a beginner to PbP (and getting to play DnD) as well, so this would be my first time playing. Name: Otwin Sorin Race: Human Class: Monk
The rumors spread all over town. This is the third tavern I've visited and the gossip is the same everywhere. If rumors spread that far, there often is at least some truth in them. This might just be what I need to get the business going again. If I don't earn some money soon, I won't be able to pay and the guild might revoke my membership. I just need some money, enough to start over. I can do this. This might even be a good way to practice my special skill set, maybe next time those pirates try to capture my ship and steal my goods, I will be prepared. Yes, I can do this, I must. Will I? Maybe another drink before I go? No, now or never, I'll lose everything if I don't act. I'll start looking in the warehouse district, they have to be somewhere. I will find them and they will hire me. Just one job and I'll be back on track. Just this one.
I've left my family, maybe forever. They took good care of me, but I have to find out where I came from. I always disappointed them anyway. I'm sure they won't miss me.
i’d be interested in joining. I am a fairly experienced dungeon master here on these forums. Will put a together a character soon. I like to help up-and-coming dungeon Masters on here, so this would be interesting for me.
I am a pretty active PbPer, I have DMed a couple of games, and am currently playing in probably too many. I am definitely willing to help out. It is pretty intuitive. The dice roller on the top right of the text creator is pretty much all you need, if you want everything else can be on paper. I will roll up a support character
Name: Tarquin Forsyth
Race: Human
Class: Monk.
Backstory: Born and raised in Baldur's gate, Tarquin was apprenticed to a Cartographer at a very young age. Although he was a helpful assistant, he was quickly bored, and his thirst for new sights frustrated his master. When he finally finished his training, he travelled to Waterdeep, hoping to find work aboard a ship. Instead he heard the rumours. He was dubious, but could not turn down any chance to map the uncharted territory of the Chultian jungle....

“I will take responsibility for what I have done. [...] If must fall, I will rise each time a better man.” ― Brandon Sanderson, Oathbringer.
Welcome to the jungle ... I also began pnp with AD&D in ‘80 or ‘81. Life (read college, family, career) crowded out the gaming until I introduced my youngest son, now 20, to the redbox a few years back. He’s found his own group and now I get to hear of his marvelous adventures. Looking to join in spinning some tales that would make him jealous of our adventures. Technically, I can be of little assistance, but I can post frequently.
I’ve never been very good at spellcasting but would be interested in trying out a Life Domain Cleric (what party doesn’t value a heal-bot?). Anyway, thinking about a middle-aged, overly fed medic that sweats profusely in high humidity. Yes, Brother Maynard Catthwap, at your service. Character sheet available upon request, let me know how ability scores are to be generated. Let’s do this!
Name: Maynard Catthwap, Brother
Race: Variant Human (Healer)
Class: Cleric (Life Domain)
Background: Acolyte
Backstory: Brother Maynard had been relegated to lesser and lesser stations for the last decade and a half. The last demotion had brought him to Port Nyanzaru to perform menial duties that normally would be performed by acolytes 1/3rd his age. Faithfully, Maynard had rolled with it but his prayer life had become muddled and the purpose of his calling an increasing enigma. After seeing a recruiting sign in the warehouse district during a supply run, his dreams began to reveal a new direction, an expanded purpose. Perhaps it was foolishness, but after fervent prayer and the self-realization that he wasn’t getting any younger, Brother Maynard requested a personal sabbatical to pursue this new path.
OOC: Thanks for all the enthusiastic responses. For a moment I felt the same kind of excitement I remember walking in to play with a new group. I am planning to post new material twice per week, with editing of posts going on in between. Please let me know if someone would like to run the combat.
Character Building: Point Buy is what I like to use. Any official sourcebook is useable. I enjoy the creativity that constraints can stimulate, which means I like using the rules and being creative with what can be done.
Time Period: the death curse was lifted a few years ago.
History, Religion and Arcana Check: please roll a check for these skills and use the results to inform yourself how much you know about the events that occurred in Tome of Annihilation. If you don’t know anything about this, that is fine, most people don’t. For game purposes, there were many groups of people that went looking to end the death curse, but nobody ever came back to Port Nyanzaru claiming credit for ending it.
If you do find yourself in Port Nyanzaru, you will have a hard time finding the OTC warehouse. The large wooden warehouse on the water in the harbor is unremarkable, save that the windows and doors facing the street are boarded over and nailed shut. On the side of the building down the stone stairs and next to the waterline is another door with the ship and waves logo painted on the door. The door is locked, but you can hear the banging of hammers and the sawing of wood coming from inside the building.
There is a notice posted next to the door that says “Now Hiring Security Guards For Local Delivery Route”
The bulky lizardfolk paced along the docks of Port Nyanzaru. Dark, dull green scales cover his body from head to clawed toe. At odds with his savage appearance, a crooked black top hat is perched above the blue head crest, held in place by the spines. He has emerged from the jungle after many years and the colors and sounds of civilization always leave him wary. A burly mastiff follows, folks giving the pair a wide berth. The sign on one door catches the reptile's orange eyes: "hiring". He approached the door and wraps on it with his staff, feathers and small animal bones clattering off the wood of the door. As he waits for an answer, the mastiff lays in a patch of shade and pants contentedly. "Hush, animal" murmurs the lizard in his native Draconic tounge. He plants his staff on the ground and waits, patient as a predator stalking its prey.
OOC: Mwotek is a Lizardfolk Grave Cleric, link to character sheet is in my signature. As you'll see, intelligence is not his forte!
OOC: Since you sort of started posting content, maybe you should create a campaign and seperate campaign thread. Also, how many players do you want to select or is this adventure open for everybody?
Rain wanders her way through the warehouse district, taking her third pass amongst the various buildings. She got off the boat from Waterdeep a couple of days ago and feels a bit lost. She knew she was leaving everything familiar behind--she wanted to--but it doesn't make it easier. And she still doesn't see the sign mentioned at the pub, a wooden ship on waves. Wait--what's that down there? A door at the bottom of a set of steps--and there it is, the Oceanic Trading Company sign and a notice that they are seeking security guards. Well, I can do that, she thinks.

Otwin walked calmly down the streets, heading towards the warehouse district. Otwin had studied lots of languages under the Order, but the chance to study and decode unexplored languages always excited the sage monk. An unexplored jungle could mean unexplored peoples, and unexplored peoples was always a link to unexplored languages. Otwin scanned the area that he had stopped in. "Now, to find that warehouse....", he thought.

Amodius tentatively enters the bustling city, scanning his surrounding and brushing off soot and grime from his robes. He found himself desperately in need of coin for food and shelter after he had to leave his last place of residence in such a hurry. He decided to wander around for a little and see if any opportunities presented themselves. After a few hours his eyes caught sight of sign perched on a warehouse informing passerby's they were hiring security guards. It probably wouldn't pay much, but he really had no other option. "Hopefully I will blend in here" he thought as he leaned on the wall of the building, idly scribbling in his notebook.

OUT OF CHARACTER: Sorry about the warning message, I edited my comment to include my patron instead of my character sheet, should I reroll, keep the rolls, or take zeros? Honestly it doesn't matter to much to me.
