"Aha!!" He gives the blade a twirl and plants it into the ground with a resounding crack. He opens his beak to speak again, then notices Shadow pawing at his wings. He gently pushes her back to the group with them. "Stop that. Not only is it inappropriate, if I were you, I'd marvel at my beak. It is..." he pulls out a handkerchief, seemingly out of thin air. "...my most dashing feature." He wipes his beak and stands proudly, mimicking the same pose he has in the painted frame next to his office. He stands there for a few seconds, twinkling ever so slightly.
"Anyways." he chimes. "1, 2, 3, 4, 5...I could've sworn I heard another -OH!" He peers over his desk and sees Pin. "A small one! Delightful!" He lets out a boisterous laugh. "Id say this is more than enough!" He reaches into a drawer and pulls out a folded piece of paper. Unfolding it, It is the map of Elvire. ((Note: This is the general Idea of the metropolis. Nothing is set in stone))
Captain Caw brings out a pen and taps the paper. "Your task is to head northeast up the river. The druids who contacted us stated that their village is near it. What they wewn't clear on is time. My best guess is a three or four day journey there and back."
Cifray nudges her way forward the instant the map is brought out. She has of course poured over many maps of the area in her time at the local libraries but unfortunately has not had the thought of acquiring any for herself, until now. "My apologies," she says excitedly as she moves past the others to stand over the map. Taking her notebook from where its strapped to her side she also retrieves a quill from seemingly nowhere and begins to copy the map. "Oh I'm sorry Captain Caw, do you mind if I make a copy for us to have in our travels? And do you know of any maps available that show a greater distance outside the city?"

"I am afraid I only have this one map. You may copy it if you wish, but my designation is to the city, so I am of little help there." He puts a talon to his chin. "Though, there are cartographers in the middle districts. I'm sure they've mapped out a ways from the city. I must warn you, they can be quite expensive. The lands beyond this city are treacherous."
"Yes, a boat would be handy. As would information. What do you know of the druids? How many in the village? Is it strictly practitioners or is it families? And what is known of their attackers? The notice mentioned strongmen, do we know if they are human or goblin or gnomes or orcs?" Gorm asks. "Information can only benefit our expedition."

Pin smiles at the coordination of her companions, lucky to have thinkers and planners around. She raises a hand "We also need snacks and some sort of creature comforts, it's important we keep our spirits up."
Corwin silently followed the group into the barracks and to its discussion with Captain Caw. He had not seen the bird-man's kind before, and while initially there seemed something unnatural about the avian and humanoid features, he quickly gathered that this being was just one more of the endless string of possible forms that the force of nature and life could take.
"Yes," he finally adds after the request for more information about the settlement has come up. "Information would help. Do you know if this community is dedicated to one god or many? Did they call for help in writing by chance? It would be helpful to see such a note if there is one."
He has another question as well. "You say the lands beyond the city are treacherous. What will be facing? Bandits? Monsters?"
"Both!" Captain Caw let's out a hearty chuckle as he pats Corwin on the shoulder. "But, chances are you'll only be dealing with the former. We got contacted via eel late last night. I'm not too keen on the wide variety of druids, the eel wasnt too clear on that matter. As for the bandits. 12 strong. Humans. One or two spell casters in the mix. As for boats..." he thinks for a bit. "I'm afraid I wont be able to spare anything to strong. Those are reserved for merchants. But!" He reaches into another and pulls out a piece of paper. He scribbles something on it, stamps it, and holds it out to the group. "There is a boat chandler down the road on the east docks. She may be able to find you a spare boat."
Then, he looks to Pin. "What in the nine hells is a 'creature comfort'? A bear cub?"
Gorm bows to the captain and begins to back out of the room. "We can stop for provisions before leaving," she whispers to Pin. "I know a good bakery..."
After the group is outside the office (whenever that happens, someone may have something before then) Gorm will casually ask the rest if anyone actually knows how to drive a boat? "I've been a passenger on larger vessels, but otherwise have travelled by foot..."

"Oh no, no it's like ummmm like pillows, or knick knacks that make you comfortable." Then she notices her party reayding to leave and follows after Gorm
((If no one else has anything to ask Captain Caw)) The Captain stands at atention, gives the group a salute and caws. Your ears are going to hurt for a minuite. Now outside into the bustling streets. ((Would anyone like to do anything before the docks? Otherwise, that is the next destination.))
Cifray follows Gorm and Pin to the shops but has a thought as they reach the docks. "Say, um Pin...Gorm...don't you think it might actually be more difficult to make it upstream in a boat? I, like Gorm do not have much knowledge in the way of actually manuevering such things but it seems to me that trying to move it upstream means moving against the current?"
Corwin follows along, managing even to smile a little at the discussion of stuffed toys and comforts. He’s not sure what that is all about but it seems vaguely amusing, a feeling he rarely feels.
He nods vigorously when the human woman who is always writing brings up the fact of the current.
”I think it might be best to travel by land. I have never been in a boat before and it is not wise to fight against the flow of a river.”
"I feel like walking would probably be the best option. Renting a boat costs money, money I don't have. Plus, going upstream is pretty hard and slow I'd reckon," Moskov comments.
“If we have one experienced and knowledgeable about boats, I shall defer to their skills,” Gorm says evenly. ((Do we? I think which is faster/easier would likely depend on speed of river, type of vessel, etc... even if slower it could be a more direct path and perhaps safer, but then again perhaps not. I vote foot unless someone does have skills...))
Gorm will stop at a few shops as requested, aiming to quickly purchase trail foods and any misc items the various members decide they need last minute. A quick check for availability of maps or the surrounding area will be made but otherwise Gorm is not looking to make any real purchases. Gorm will swing by where she had been staying, settle the bill and grab her belongings. She travels light and there’s no need to pay for a room to store a spare cloak.
Once the party is set, Gorm suggests they head out and make as good mileage as they can with the rest of the daylight available. “I expect the roads and the woods to be safer and better near the city, best to make haste across them. Further on may demand more caution and a slower pace.”

As Groom checks for maps Shadow will tag along to ask questions about what type of terrain they are facing.
