((But if missing a week, he would not have been here a week ago. He did get to Monkshall, made the deal, and returned... So that all would take time off the week. Sure, whatever trail he may have left would still be quite old but we've nothing else to look for... *shrug*))
"We're lost. We're clueless. And we're obviously not the right group for this job. All we've done is found spoiled seed and gotten me almost killed. Not once, but twice. And that it twice more than I like getting almost killed..." Shayne complains. "A less scrupulous barfly than myself would suggest that perhaps we just slink back to Rillford and tell of how, at much peril to ourselves, we found the remains of the dear departed miller. It seems he got himself lost in the woods. Why he entered the woods will never be known but there are indeed strange beasts in the Darkling Wood and the miller fell afoul of them."
"Oich, it would be a grand tale! The miller lost and confused, drawn deeper and deeper into the Darling Wood by creatures that mimic human speech while staying hidden. They trick and deceive until the poor miller is bewildered and bewitched! That is when the foul creatures surely descended upon him. Crows of Unusual Size, Half Spider-Half Half Women All Evil weavers of webs and tales, Chipmunks that talk and sing and wear sweaters... And all of them deadly."
"It was obvious the miller put up a fight, we'd say. There were signs of scuffle and battle, broken branches and animal carcasses strewn about... But eventually the miller fell and the beasts they did feed... There was not enough left to bring back, these unscrupulous adventurers would say. Scraps of bloody clothes and even less flesh and intestinal pieces. It would have done more harm for people to see him like that than to not see him at all. We did what we could. Or, you know, that is what they would say. They gave him what proper a burial and saying of words over the body that they could... It was all very sad and touching but it was also perilous and insanely dangerous! No, no we shan't take you back to the scene. It just isn't safe. Not in any numbers or brightest of day. The woods are dark and foul and the tales do not do their evil justice... Suffice it to say, the miller is now at peace and we all must try to move on...."
"Little masters, hold! Hold, please! There is no need for violence here," Shayne says with his hands raised slightly as a sign of goodwill. "What trespass have we done that you attack us so without warning? Pray do parley with us and let us see if we can come to an understanding here?"
Grumbling a little bit after not finding the miller and having nearly lost Shayne, again, Xylys agrees to head off and check the bypass trail. "From the map it would seem that the trail past the spider joins the one the headed south from where we found the cart; but, then again, mayhaps not. But before we go I want to try and get some 'drippings' from that spider." So saying he will get out his herbalism kit, take a vial and collect some of the spiders venom and, if possible, one of it's fangs. After packing everything up again he will follow the others and, as they leave, he will stomp on as many eggs as possible without getting too crazed about it. "No sense in leaving too many, what would happen if they all hatched? Probably invade Rillford looking for food, wouldn't want that on my mind."

As the tiny arrows come buzzing in, Xylys jumps as though stung by a hornet. "What the heck! Stop! We're only looking for a friend who got lost! We're not planning to live here, chop down any of your trees," he continues, sotto vocce, "probably don't even know what a friend is."

((Gone for ten days, expected back a week ago))
Alyna appears distracted, almost dreamy, her attention elsewhere just now. Is she even listening to Shayne's rambling speech?
She opens her mouth, perhaps to gasp or meaning to interrupt the bard's ranting--
And then the air fills with buzzing missiles!
Alyna, forewarned in some fashion, has time to jump clear.

"What the wha...?" Shayne shouts out in surprise, turning and wheeling and trying to see what the heck is happening...
Nothing around him, but when he looks up he sees what look for a second like overgrown dragonflies wheeling in air.
But no, it's several tiny, winged humanoids. The little people giggle as they reach for fresh arrows...

He feels not so much ill as suddenly drowsy.
Alyna joins in persuasion of the little folk, not sure yet if this are the true fairies or if she is dreaming: "We mean you no harm, please stop!"
